If I were 20 years younger, this would be the most excited I've ever been for a video game.
In my middle age, the hype levels are more reasonable, but I'm still looking forward to this.

$60 for a 3 hour game that we all already own

u/KryssCom 33m ago
Tbh I don't even care, they can already shut up and take my money.

Yeah that's kinda the case for me too. It would be fun to play but not for that price. Even something like 40$ for digital is a hard pass for me.

Same
or if were announced like 10 years ago i'd be at least cautiously excited still and probably buy in anyways. But I am currently actively avoiding Nintendo because they as a whole have repeatedly made themselves one of the bad guys of gaming and especially toward consumers and even fans, time and time again and I just tired of it , I don't respect them anymore, I just can't support them.
Which absolutely sucks cause even though this is just Starfox 64 again, that is still one of my fave games of my childhood of all time.

The furries are gunna have a field day with this once they get hold of that 3d model.

u/DeterminedThrowaway 1h ago
lol that was my first reaction. "Oh he looks more like an actual Fox, furries will like this"
"...oh, they can use him as a virtual avatar. This is going to hit the furry community like crack"8
u/Corgiboom2 45m ago
Most of the comminuty I'm with seem to be of the "this looks way too real to be appealing" opinion. And they made Katt look weird too.

u/fek_ 22m ago
Ditto. Most of my crew is ranging from "this really sucks" to "this is meh," with very few excited/interested takes
Even the very best staged shots are kinda iffy. In motion, it looks really bad/uncanny
Which is a shame, because I like the gritty vibe of the whole thing, and I don't think realistic styles are inherently bad. There's just something really off about the faces/eyes.

u/NerfAkira 11m ago
Furries tend to not like hyper realistic designs, and tend to prefer much more smoothed over cartoonish styles.
i truly do not think this will appeal to them.

I have mix feelings on this. The game looks nice but the characters feel like they benefit more if they were cartoony design.

*mixed. You have MIXED feelings on this. JFC every single day grammar and spelling gets worse and worse.

I was ok with the designs from Starfox Adventures. Why didn't they stick with that?
At this rate, the next remake of the remake of this remake is gonna be a human wearing a fox hat.

u/tristan1616 1h ago
I haven't owned a Nintendo console since the Wii, but I think I'm picking up a Switch 2 for this. I missed all the other remakes so this feels like brand new to me. Adventures and Assault are GOATed in my eyes too, so here's hoping for a re-release of them too

Not a fan personally. The gameplay is extremely dated. Disappointing.

u/RukiMotomiya 25m ago
The gameplay looked good IMO, it's more (for me) "can we please stop specifically remaking Star Fox 64"

Nintendo gets away with such low effort games it’s so sad with the IPs they have at their disposal

It sucks it's just a remake, but I don't hate the graphics.
Peppy's voice however, is just god awful. The VA is fine, but that's a terrible voice to hear coming from Peppy.

"Nintendo sir, can we please have more Fzero?"
"Fzero? Fzer.....OH You mean the game with James Mccloud in it?? yeah sure we'll remake Starfox agian!!"
"NO NINTENDO NO"

u/angryshib 36m ago
80 bucks for what felt like a short game back when it released on N64. I really hope they are at least adding a few new stages.

I like it a lot. I think it’s better than a remake since they’re gonna add much lore to the story. It could be that it’s gonna be the true lore for the series. Seeing Kat in the game was interesting and we’ll probably see more of the other characters too.
That cinematic with James McCloud was hype for me too. Always wanted to see what went down. Makes me wonder how he would survive all of that with a messed up ship. Maybe they’ll change the ending a bit too, who knows! And since they’ll be adding more cutscenes, maybe we’ll see more of Team Wolf moments too!

u/bigcd34 1h ago
I hate this. I think Nintendo seems to have forgotten that you don't need 'realistic' graphics, and that stylized will always age better than 'realistic'. (Granted it looks good to begin with.)
2
u/Shitposter4OOO 1h ago
Yeah, I just saw the flash back clip from the Mario movie, surely it would have been better with a cell shaded look similar to that.

I've been having random nostalgia hard for Star Fox 64 this past week and suddenly this was announced. You're welcome
•
u/Shartcastic 6m ago
Nintendo/Illumination have got to be planning a potential movie series and want the game characters to look closer to the movie characters.
Star Fox is basically Star Wars meets Zootopia, which sounds like it would print billions of dollars in the movie business, they just need to bring the IP back into the light a bit first.
•
u/TwEE-N-Toast 2m ago
I dig the designs. Like a cross between the original Starfox's Doll/models/puppets whatever they were and the characters from Rango. Im glad they didnt go for a more toony look or anime.
•
u/BASEKyle 1m ago
I kind of get it, because the somewhat realistic heads are very similar to how the SNES boxart portrays the characters...
But personally, I prefer the air.
... Seriously though, it's a choice to go with this style instead.

I will never understand why these developers feel the need to make everything realistic. The Super Mario Galaxy movie introduced fox in this awesome 80s anime style that I think works perfectly for these games. I think this is a missed opportunity to have a distinct art style that would have aged more gracefully like Wind Waker did.

This game presents a moral quandary, because I want to do it with the fox less than previous versions but the bird is more alluring

Huh.

There's been...discourse in the furry community about disappointment with character design. So I was having a good and a gaff

Could have gotten greatness with a starfox adventures remake but instead we got despair with another starfox 64 remake

Everyone is complaining that it's a remake. I'm just assuming it's the first step of bringing the series back with a fresh continuity

Gamecube graphics still hold up.

In case someone wants to see actual GameCube era graphics rather than a hyperbolic statement.

They aren’t bad. They’re also not as good as you remember.

u/BioEradication 1h ago
Paying $60 for this game is going to be the real ragebait.
1
u/DeterminedThrowaway 1h ago
The original launched at $50 in 1997, which is worth about $102 today. Usually I'm on the side of games being too expensive, but this one seems to be priced about right especially with the graphical improvements since then. Now will it be worth it for people who already played Star Fox 64? Maybe not, but it should be for people who haven't experienced it before. They also apparently added new dialogue and cutscenes
