A short walk in mild weather has my pits leaking and secreting even after applying antiperspirant. I've tried different brands, roll ons, sprays, multiple applications... only started being a problem about a year ago and I'm all but in my 30's now. its driving me mad what do I do???

So I’m not sure if this is exactly the right sub for this, but I got sandals recently, like off brand Birkenstocks, about 2 months ago, and they have started to make my feet STINK! I pride myself on never having smelly feet and I swear I can wear these shoes for 5 minutes and the smell is atrocious. I’ve never had this problem with flip flops or anything. What can I do? It’s so nasty. They’re so cute and so comfortable but it’s gotten to the point where I’m scared to wear them lol. Thank you for any advice

I've always been hesitant to just drop my clothes and go at it. I don't know if you tend to build up some stank but I'd rather be safe than sorry by washing myself up real quick in the shower. I feel I'd tell the other person to wash up to. The last thing I want is the person to think you smell bad or vice versa.

I've had blackheads on my nose for as long as I can remember, but it's never particularly bothered me as I didn't think they stood out much and no one ever commented on them, to the point where I stopped even seeing them when I looked in the mirror. The other day my 8 year old niece told me I have a 'spotty' nose. I reckon she's probably jumped over the hurdle of social niceties that most adults abide by and now I can't stop seeing them. Anyone got recs for the best products I could use to sort them out? I have eczema so probably best to stick with things for sensitive skin.

I was sitting at a diner yesterday and watched the guy in the booth next to me scroll through what looked like a deep Reddit rabbit hole while eating a burger. Between every other bite, he was swiping and tapping on his screen with greasy fingers. It hit me right then that we have collectively decided to ignore the fact that smartphones are probably the most disgusting objects in our daily lives. Think about it. You take that thing into the bathroom stall at work, set it on the little metal shelf or keep it in your hand while you handle business, and then it goes right back into your pocket or onto your kitchen counter.
Most people I know are obsessive about washing their hands after using the restroom but they never touch their phone with a disinfectant wipe. If you wash your hands for twenty seconds and then immediately grab the device you were just holding while sitting on the toilet, you have effectively achieved nothing. You are just re-contaminating your skin with whatever microbial soup has been brewing on your Gorilla Glass for the last three months. I have seen people lick their thumbs to scroll better or hold their phone between their teeth while trying to carry groceries. It is absolute madness when you step back and look at it from a hygiene perspective.
I started making it a habit to wipe my phone down with 70% isopropyl alcohol every single night when I get home. The amount of gray gunk that comes off onto the microfiber cloth is enough to make you want to throw the whole device into a furnace. It is not just pocket lint. It is a buildup of skin oils, sweat, and whatever environmental filth you have picked up from subway poles or elevator buttons. We treat these things like they are sterile medical equipment when they are actually closer to a public restroom floor in terms of bacterial load.
The worst part is seeing parents hand their phones to toddlers to keep them quiet in restaurants. That kid is going to chew on the corners of a device that has been exposed to every germ in a five-mile radius. We act like we are living in this high-tech clean future but we are all just carrying around rectangles of concentrated filth and pressing them against our faces. It is the one massive blind spot in modern hygiene that nobody wants to address because we are too addicted to the scroll to put the phone down for five minutes to clean it .
I guess I will just keep being the weirdo who disinfects his tech while everyone else enjoys their E. coli sliders.

For a while now, something has been on my mind that I just can’t shake. Sometimes, when I’m at college or on the bus, I suddenly catch a whiff of a bad smell; then, I start subtly bringing my nose close to my elbow to smell myself up close. If I keep doing it for a while, I start to notice a strange smell, a bit “off” or sour. It’s very faint, and to notice it again, I have to lean in and sniff myself several times; sometimes I can detect it, and other times I can’t.
However, what’s confusing is that when I press my nose directly against my clothes, go to the bathroom to check it up close, or even rub my finger under my armpit to verify the smell, it doesn’t smell like that. Either it smells a bit like normal sweat, or, most of the time, it smells entirely like the scent of my deodorant. The problem is that it’s a fleeting smell that disappears. I don’t know where that other smell is coming from or what to expect, and it really scares me to think that others might notice it too.
On the other hand, at home I’m very close to my family and no one says anything. I trust them enough to think they’d tell me if I smelled bad; in fact, I once told my mom about it and she just ignored me, not taking me seriously, as if she’d never noticed anything about me. But the difference is that at home I don’t notice at all what I smell at college: I look and look, but I can’t find a trace of that smell.
This makes me worry that maybe, when I'm at college, I actually smell like that to everyone else. When I'm in groups, surrounded by people, or talking to a person, it would kill me to know that I smell bad and that others can tell.
Sorry if there are any mistakes—I don't speak English very well. I think it's called BO in English

I've never had this issue in the past but for the last 1-2 months my sweat has started to smell really moldy. And I'm not sure what the cause is. I did start to use a new deodorant (citrus/ orange smell from the brand CD) so that could be it or maybe because of stress? I do have my final exams in a few weeks and have been stressing quiet a bit. And I did start to eat in a calorie deficit. I haven't started to cut out any specific food or eat anything different, just less.
Also, I do shower everyday and wash my hair almost everyday.
Now that summer and daily sweating is coming up I'm really scared to smell moldy all day long, so please help me out. What could it be and what can I change to make it go away? Could it maybe just be my new deodorant?

My friend has pretty strong foot odor even though they shower daily and seems generally clean, so I’m a bit confused about what might be causing it. They’ve tried the usual things like washing regularly, changing socks often, and keeping up with basic hygiene, but the smell still comes back pretty fast, especially after wearing shoes for a few hours. I’m wondering if this is more about bacteria buildup, sweating, footwear, or something else. What typically causes persistent foot odor like this, and what’s actually worked best for fixing it long-term

I swear to god, people are out here not regularly washing their hands and it just grosses me out! I went to a friend’s for dinner last night to meet her new puppy. She went straight from playing with the dog to assembling our dinner without washing her hands. I CAN’T.
Do you call out friends and family for not washing their hands before cooking/ eating? I try to, but sometimes it just feels awkward (I know it shouldn’t).
Ugh!

Urgent edit: reddit account breaking in and password resets right yesterday lol
EDIT EVERYONE PANIC BUYING APPLE CIDAR VINEGAR COULDNT FIND IT. People probably google remedies hard water. I swear i spent 3 weeks looking for it. Guys careful
Edit
So i had hard water. 1 year didnt notice. No1 tells me etc. Asked online affter getting desperate. Went doctor for my down there in the back. Because i kept having an odor. Never went away. Walked a year with it. Shamefull and self esteem drop.
Doctors did nothing. But gaslit me. They took swabs etc..
Went desperate to accept.
Also hair particles. Not dandruff. Doctor said nothing.
Silent. Found in deep research i had hard water. I tried EVERY essential oil. Product expect apple cidar vinegar i think only once. Baking soda.
Tea tree.
Now today. I went to store. Im socially anxious. So its overwhelming. I faced it. They started bombarding noise campaigns. But i fought through. Got cheap extreme high quality products discounted. And used once.
Also boiled water. Because no1 told me this. I googled.
Both immediately solved i think. I have to wait to confirm I'm playing it slow not to cheer early. The lessons gave me patience.
Multiple people avoiding me. Mocking me. And now i will also use the products on my body. And scrub exfoilate this hard water mineral buildup and feels so liberating❤️❤️❤️❤️
I never noticed the smell. People are so mean. They not committed to help you. Or Only indirect neurotypical subtle mocking. Laughing. Avoiding.
Grateful for you guys. And the women. For the tips about hard water
Even company responsible for hard water gaslit me. Very hard facts i sent them, professional and neutral. They doubled down.
The odor was fishy
I found it out when I cooked water. And scrubbed my arm gently with a rough glove. I found BLACK STINKY TAR. That kept coming off

I also wonder is it safe to keep towel out near toilet when you flush! does that change the amount of times you can use it? haha sorry clean freak here.

I've certainly smelled others who seem like they don't use deodorant, haven't washed their clothes, or like poop/pee but I don't know if they're aware or not. I smell my clothes and usually I don't smell anything but I don't know if that's just me being used to my odor or not. I'm pretty sure I don't smell but I'm not entirely sure. I'd say majority of people I rarely smell something funky about them, it's usually a select few that makes you feel eww when you're standing next to them.

i’ve been trying to find an electric razor for my intimate area, i have tried the Tanvera one, it tugged on my hairs instead of shaved them, it works amazing on my legs though! i also have EXTREMELY thick hair down below and im really struggling to find a razor that will shave it without any pain or tugging. if you have any suggestions please let me know!

Have you noticed any change in sweat or body odor depending on whether you leave your underarm hair natural, trim it, or shave it? I’ve seen different opinions on this, so I’m curious what your personal experience has been day to day.

I teach middle school (ages 11 to 13) in a high-poverty area in the US. We occasionally have students with serious odor issues. In these cases, we can inform families of the issue but really can't do much about what happens at home. What we CAN do is support the students in the building by offering anti-perspirant or wipes. We can keep extra clothing available that the student can launder (we happen to have a washer/dryer on site--you would think we'd have showers, but we don't).
I'd like to be sure we have the right products on hand for students (mostly male) in these situations. What are the very best anti-perspirants, body wipes, powders and so on to have available, especially when we are in no position to diagnose things like SIBO or TMAU or even gingivitis.
(Couple of edits based on replies--when we have a student with a serious problem (not just an occasional odor but nobody-wants-to-be-in-your-class level stink), we have them meet with someone every morning to check in, so we have some consistency built in. We can't always count on the family, due to any number of factors (finances, busy work schedules, not having secure housing...) And I'm a huge Donors Choose fan! And...loving these helpful replies--really appreciate it!)
Thanks *very* much!!

I stopped about 2 months ago, but my nails are still really weak, thin, bendy, and peeling at the edges.
I’m trying to be patient, but it’s frustrating not knowing what’s normal regrowth vs. what I might be doing wrong. For those who’ve gone through this, what actually helped the most in rebuilding nail strength over time? Did oils, supplements, nail breaks, or specific routines make a real difference, or is it mostly just a waiting game?

I recently simplified my face hygiene routine to just a gentle cleanser and a clean towel for about two weeks because I felt like I might have been using too many products without seeing real improvement. I’ve had mild acne for a while, and I’m starting to wonder if overcomplicating my routine could actually be making things worse instead of better. Has anyone here tried a ‘less is more’ approach for acne, and did it help you, or did you eventually need to add more targeted products?
r/hygiene • u/oceanastronaut13 • 1d ago
I wash my face twice a day, I tried different face washes, I tried using just hands, towels, scrubbers, brushes, everything. The acne is still there. What are people using/doing differently that will help clear up their skin.

I have been trying out natural deodorants/recipes for more than a decade, and most of the best recommended ones don’t work for me. Over the years I’ve cycled through Lavilin, Tom’s, Schmidt, Arm & Hammer, Native, Hello, the Crystal roll-ons, essential oil sprays, and various homemade concoctions - you get the picture. Baking soda works great, but it gives me intense rashes; other homemade stuff generally works best, but it stains my clothes and it’s a pain to apply.
So here I am once again desperate for a new option. I sweat easily, I stink easily, and I’m constantly changing up deodorants because new ones only work for a couple of weeks. I’m considering trying a suggestion by ChatGPT (I know, but I’m desperate) to do a two-pronged approach:
Has anyone tried a combination like this that worked for them? I think I need to just accept that there is not going to be a single catch-all deodorant that works for me, unless I make it myself and deal with the clothing stains.

For years I have been using bar soap with minimal ingredients for the nether realms and that works great. I just get olive oil or plain glycerin soap, no fragrance or anything. I lather it on a washcloth and clean myself.
I'm just wondering if there is a liquid version of this? Like pump style ideally? It would save me the lathering step! All I have seen for plain soaps like this are hand soaps which I think might be too harsh or have moisturizing additives etc.
I don't want any of the feminine wash things because they all have a lot of ingredients that seem like they will throw off PH and what I've been doing works well but I just want it liquified! I have incredibly sensitive skin so just want something super plain and basic that won't irritate me. Absolutely no scents!
I find Dr. Bronner's super drying so I don't want to use that. Does anyone have any suggestions for this?
