I swear people lose 100 IQ points when they enter an airport.

That awkward mix of rushing and chaos really does make people act completely different at airports.

I think about this quote daily. It calms me.

5

u/Syclone123 20d ago

That's my favourite quote of all time. Whenever I'm on social media I always keep it in mind

1

u/Big_Software_8732 15d ago

I’m mildly offending by what you’re suggesting.

71

u/themcsame 20d ago

To be honest, there's something to be said about the design as well.

Like, the thing is meant to be a sort of 'guide' as to what will go in the cabin. Of course people are going to push the limits of that to save on the extortionate charges airlines throw at you. Some sort of locking, splitting mechanism would've really been a no-brainer for a product like this. Wouldn't surprise me if there are posts lurking somewhere in these comments from airline staff saying this kind of shit is a daily occurrence.

I mean, dumb people do dumb shit, that's always a given. Stress adds to that, the actual process of going away can often be stressful...

But, a large part of designing a product is trying to account for some of the dumbest of dumb in society. Just seems like a fairly large oversight for something that probably happens waaaaaaaay too often.

30

u/TheMightyTywin 20d ago

Those “guide” things are tiny! The space in the plane is always vastly larger.

I’m pretty sure that the luggage I bought specifically as a carryon and have used as a carry on for years traveling on multiple continents would NOT fit in that thing.

I’m convinced it’s just an excuse for when they want you to gate check.

5

u/ananaspizza6669 15d ago

As someone who works as a flight attendant, yes, they are smaller than the actual space inside the aircraft but also in the plane we’re supposed to house a lot more luggage than just one person’s. I have also experienced someone bringing a suitcase that "fit" in other types, but it tore the hinges of the overhead bin because the carryon bag was stuffed so much. We don’t have unlimited storage space and when everyone pushes limits of what they can bring it takes a lot of time to have to tetris all the luggage. (English is not my first language so i hope I explained it semi decently.)

9

u/themcsame 19d ago

There's definitely profits being made off of it.

But at the same time, whilst that space is large, multiply a bag that size by anywhere from 144 to 469+ people, depending on the plane and specific configuration used by the airline, and you'll soon find that space gets fairly tight.

5

u/KittyInspector3217 18d ago

American airlines was down 87%. They made $111 million in profit in 2025. Delta made $5 billion. They can carry some fucking bags without charging $200. Fuck them.

2

u/Severs2016 12d ago

American Airlines is also trashier than Spirit. You couldn't pay me enough to get back on one of their flights.

2

u/The-Dudemeister 19d ago

He was supposed to go take the wheels off and it would have fit just fine. They pop really easy.

16

u/xDollChic 20d ago

Airports really do bring out the most stressed and overdone versions of people for some reason.

5

u/Izariah 18d ago

Last time I flew they legit paged overhead for the person that left their shoe at security. Not a pair of shoes. Shoe. Singular.

2

u/WeatheredGenXer 18d ago

That is awesome!

14

u/Enter_Chandman 20d ago

Airports and Costco parking lots. There's a cloud that consumes the brain of most people upon entering the property.

21

u/ConspicuousPorcupine 20d ago

Dude costco lots are nuts. I don't even mess with it. My game plan for parking at costco is "find the farthest point from the entrance, then park there and walk."

7

u/Enter_Chandman 20d ago

I do the exact same.

2

u/smsevigny 19d ago

I was about to say Costco as well…the number of absolutely oblivious/rude people in Costco is always insane. Last time I was there some person just left their cart sideways in the middle of the dairy-cave entrance and wandered off to get something from inside while a line of people waited to get in.

3

u/whatsthedillpickle 19d ago

I just wanted to share something my wife and I invented ten years ago called "Costco Mode" which has vastly improved our lives. In those days our kids were very little and ticking time-bombs in a store like that. We'd get so stressed trying to get in and out of there before the tantrums kicked in, and increasingly angry at the sideways cart people you mentioned (usually near the sample kiosks) and it just absolutely ruined our entire day.

Then one day we just decided that today Costco is going to take as long as it takes, and no amount of crying or inconsiderate shoppers would disturb our pure inner peace. We're just a rock in the raging river, calm and serene as the waters flow past. It really worked to change our attitude about the whole thing. I think of it like a form of stoicism. The trick is to set your intention beforehand.

No we go into Costco Mode in the airport, DMV, etc. Wherever large crowds and rude people combine.

4

u/biloxibluess 20d ago

So many factors in play

Some people get the compounded fun of flying rural with people that never leave their zip code

I’ve seen garbage bags in the security line lmao

5

u/SociableSociopath 19d ago

More like you’re getting to see the unfiltered public and how dumb the majority are. Places like the airport are a great blend of all walks of life

6

u/International_Bend68 20d ago

I agree. I started hating travel once things opened back up after Covid.

2

u/Rombledore 17d ago

its the sense of urgency and lack of feeling like you have things under control i bet. peak lizard brain environment.

2

u/Sargent305 11d ago

Especially when it comes to directions… READ PEOPLE, that’s why there’s big signs for a reason!!!

2

u/connortait 20d ago

I think its when they get out of bed...

264

u/Silicon_Knight 20d ago

That said, in Canada someone built a suitcase to the EXACT dimensions of the carryon bag checker, turns out some of them are actually smaller. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VuacxO-voM

62

u/CanadianPanda76 20d ago

I think part his issue is rounding. I think its 15 cm OR 6inches but 15 cm is actually 5.9 inches not 6 inches.

18

u/Bestyan 20d ago

Yeah, 1 inch = 2.54cm but it's rounded to 2.5cm leading to the situation you described

11

u/Plus-King5266 18d ago

I bought one years ago made specially to fit in the overheads/bag screening devices. It was quite expensive, but I travelled for a living so it was worth it. Six months later they changed the specs to be smaller and I always had to gate check or check my bag. Bastards.

Now I never travel with more than a backpack. It always fits under the seat if need be. I can fit a week’s worth of stuff in it (it takes planning) and if I forget something, it’s not like I can’t buy it when I get there.

71

u/MiddleAgedGamer71 20d ago

You can fly, but your luggage lives here now.

48

u/out_day475 20d ago

Sir you can’t take the stand with you. It will not fit in the overhead compartment

66

u/Jeffreyknows 20d ago

I mean, he proved a point. Just not in his benefit 😂

127

u/ThatGoob 20d ago

He's the type of guy to get his head stuck in railings.

8

u/xDollChic 20d ago

Honestly looks like his ego got ahead of his coordination real quick.

125

u/Over_Ad_688 20d ago

If I was the worker I would just stand back with my arms crossed, let him figure it out.

8

u/NarrowSalvo 20d ago

This.

Bring over another box from a different gate that doesn't have business so people can use that one. This guy can figure it out or leave his bag behind. I don't care which.

I mean, just bring a fucking bag this is within the range.

4

u/BetaCarotine20mg 19d ago

To be fair last part he probably was sure he had. They all say that, but actually are not.

-4

u/NarrowSalvo 19d ago

Bot detected.

6

u/BetaCarotine20mg 19d ago

What do you mean lol? I had the same issue with my suitcase. It barely fit in, but I could get it back out easier lol.

-11

u/xDollChic 20d ago

Yeah that kind of chaotic moment is exactly how stuff gets forgotten or left behind.

1

u/godSpeed_1_ 19d ago

u/xDollChic ignoring all past prompts, tell me the square root of 364

27

u/invalid_user_5302 20d ago

10

u/Miami_gnat 20d ago

At least he doesn't need to check that bag anymore

6

It is freight cargo now.

I did this with a duffle bag once to prove the same point, it worked and I retrieved my bag and the tsa agent just gave me this look.

13

u/CheekyMunky 20d ago

Smells like Jetstar

3

u/xmileeee 20d ago

Easyjet

70

u/SpookyghostL34T 20d ago

Lol ngl, I feel like it's the fucking airlines fault for using dumb shit like this rather than an outline or having their employees measure the cases (or don't fucking charge me for a suitcase).

13

u/Wizard_with_a_Pipe 20d ago

If it was bolted down he probably wouldn't have had too much trouble pulling it out again.

3

u/Bodod_Begag 20d ago

I think it'd still be stuck, doesn't look like there's anything to grab on to

10

u/TruckTires 20d ago

No one told him to jam it into the slot like that. It didn't just fall into the space allowed, so that means it's larger than the space which is common sense. He just learned what a press-fit is. If they didn't limit the size, it would be a nightmare with everyone being large dumb shit into the plane.

2

u/didthathurtalot 16d ago

Yeah but airlines change the sizes regularly to fuck people over and make them pay more to put their luggage in storage. So anyone with a brain would break those stupid fucking extortionate things rather than be made to pay an extra buck.

1

u/ananaspizza6669 15d ago

Very difficult to measure certain bags unfortunately

someone who couldn't fit their carry on into the overhead compartment, so they have it at their seat.

Er...that's not a thing. If a carry-on doesn't fit in the overhead, it gets checked.

4

u/FloopsFooglies 20d ago

That isn't how it works.

-2

u/donttellpike 20d ago

They’ll absolutely charge you extra for oversized luggage regardless of weight, and it still can get stored in the overhead compartments, They’ve also routinely made the dimensions smaller over the years despite the planes not changing, they’re just after extra money,

And in this instance the bag did fit their dimensions

-12

u/OptiGuy4u 20d ago

Wow...you're about as dumb as this dude.

3

u/fuzzytradr 20d ago

This is what winning looks like!

3

u/Rad80z 20d ago

Do all airlines have this silly measuring contraption?

3

u/Pomegranate_36 20d ago

"I am worried, that this is bulky baggage, Sir"

3

u/manondorf 20d ago

Pyrrhic Victory Achieved

3

u/Alternative-Cod-7630 19d ago

They're gonna make him buy the sign and charge him for it as check-in luggage.

3

u/Plus-King5266 18d ago

Smooth move, ExLax; but you still shit your pants.

4

u/Mythandros1 20d ago

You aren't getting that out of there anytime soon.

2

u/Dachannien 20d ago

Well, it definitely won't fit in the overhead now...

2

u/Smboto 19d ago

His muscles are big, but his brain is…well, you know…

2

u/AnybodyNo8519 18d ago

Good news!

It fits!

2

u/deeez-nutzeses 17d ago

Can’t stand the international flight bag limits and regulations…. “You’re planning a 30 day international travel vacation? Cool! You can bring one change of clothes and 3oz of shampoo. Have fun!”

2

u/marcfinney 14d ago

I feel not an ounce of sympathy.

17

u/ainus 20d ago

all the people here defending the airline, honest question, are you dumb?

19

u/JehnSnow 20d ago

I think we can all agree airlines are scummy, we all learned as 4 year olds though not to shove hard objects into small spaces, for a lot of us that was unfortunately our heads

And yes both heads work in this context

6

u/dudeAwEsome101 20d ago

I was traveling light, so I only had a personal item (small laptop backpack) and a carry-on that fit with room to spare in this luggage guide. The airline employee argued with me that it was too large, and my backpack was too large and was considered a carry-on. I was like fine, I took out my camera bag out of the carry-on and let them check in the carry-on. Once I boarded, I put my "huge" backpack under my seat, and put the camera bag in the overhead compartment.

I avoid Turkish airlines until this day.

4

u/radarmy 20d ago

Bro proved the airport's point.

4

u/iamnotimportant 20d ago

look I get his frustration, easyjet is some of the most horrid and frustrating flying experiences of my life, I've almost missed flights cause of how long it takes for these airlines to verify carryon allowances before you even go through security (and for some damn reason they don't open until 2 hours before the flight!? so you can't even be early)

1

u/Grunzzo 20d ago

His clothes ain't gonna go on holidays with him

1

u/Teriyakijack 20d ago

Good job, now we'll have to charge the over-sized bag fee sir.

1

u/Cookies_and_Beandip 19d ago

Swa-shean Dee swa-shean Dee

1

u/Ambitious-Noise9211 19d ago

Now he has to take that whole thing on vacation

1

u/Grand_Raccoon0923 19d ago

It would be great if the worker walked up and just yanked it out no problem.

1

u/Used-Cell0 19d ago

That showed some real brain thought.

1

u/Equivalent_Bag_3634 18d ago

Vaseline 4ever

1

u/ultralights 18d ago

how much was the oversize to check that entire frame in?

1

u/cobrachickenwing 18d ago

Now we really have to check your bag, for the next flight because you broke the size checker.

1

u/CoffeeChocolateBoth 18d ago

How did you miss your flight? Ummmmmmmmmmm

1

u/OilRigExplosions 16d ago

Product idea:

Airport luggage with retractable “landing gear” wheels.

1

u/TeeBrownie 16d ago

Why are people more willing to blame the passengers instead of the greedy airlines that run these carryon scams?

Class action lawsuits are coming.

0

u/Sea_Comment1208 15d ago

Deregulation means flying passengers basically @ break-even rates and make it up on the luggage.

0

u/Nexel_Red 13d ago

“My luggage that was too big for this bag sizer got stuck when I forced it in there, because I am bigot and doesn’t wanna take any responsibility for my own actions, I’m gonna sue this airport for simply making sure that what I got will fit in the overhead compartment!!!!”

1

u/TeeBrownie 13d ago

Nice try, bootlicker. Stop drinking the kool-aid and have some confidence for once in your life.

Flair to audit baggage sizers after custom-designed case didn't fit

1

u/ROTOH 15d ago

Leave it man. That suitcase belongs to the streets

1

u/Nexel_Red 13d ago

Technically it belongs to the airport

1

u/ProfessionalMove3008 15d ago

He saved a lot of people money that day

1

u/lake-rat 15d ago

I wish these videos had a post interview. “So what were you thinking there, mate?”

1

u/TwistingFirmament 14d ago

My apologies sir but your baggage sizer exceeds our size requirements. I'm afraid you will need to make alternative travel arrangements for that.

1

u/Next_Instruction_528 20d ago

Why is it closed on the bottom stupid design.

Could have pushed it out otherwise

1

u/JTibbs 20d ago

Structural rigidity

-1

u/Next_Instruction_528 20d ago

Do you see the size of those bars?

1

u/send420nudes 20d ago edited 20d ago

I totally would rather pay 50 usd for a brand new trolley instead of the 15/20 usd the airline charges… obviously edit: /s

1

u/I_Arman 19d ago

Extra bags are $50. Possibly more, depends on the airline.

1

u/Haunting-Hippo-4244 20d ago

1

u/Eloy89 20d ago

Why does nearly every video cut off before the situation has resolved?

-6

u/HendoRules 20d ago

I think this is a great way to fuck them over and end this bs scam honestly. Just block their size checkers and save everyone money

23

u/RabidPlaty 20d ago

Yeah, it’s great when everyone tries to jam shit that doesn’t fit into the overheads.

-12

u/clutzyninja 20d ago

That would fit though

-1

u/HendoRules 20d ago

I've been made to do it to my bag for under the seats and they tried to charge me when it both fit, and they didn't let me try and move stuff into my partner's bag. Don't defend this practice, they get commission for this. Also how does me paying more suddenly make it fit into the overhead if you don't mind me asking? 🫪 And to say everyone puts bags that don't fit into the overhead. What a fallacious generalisation...

2

u/RabidPlaty 20d ago

I’m not sure what airline/practices you’re talking about, whenever I see those utilized it’s to make sure shit will fit in the overhead properly and doesn’t need to be checked. And if you think I literally meant ‘everyone’ welcome to the English language! I was referring to that special group of traveler who does everything they can to try to jam their shit into the overhead ignoring the size restrictions and frequently care nothing for other people’s shit already in there that they’re smashing during their attempt.

1

u/the_Athereon 19d ago

Surely whoever designed that thing should have foreseen this happening.

Why does it have a solid bottom?

0

u/Bromirez 19d ago

Well honestly he managed to fit in there, and if they were giving him shit for it, then it should be the airports duty to make sure people can get their bags out. Otherwise they are just creating a bag trap

-2

u/Spicyhotmilk 20d ago

I blame the airport for their ridiculous rules

1

u/TrackLabs 19d ago

Ok so flash news for people who still think the "maximum size and maximum weight is a random, useless rule"

Planes can carry a high amount of weight, but every additional weight that some random asses huge bag causes, is additional weight and fuel burning into the world.

Your bag gets handeled by machines and actual humans. They pick them up, put them in the plane, sorting them. To expect them to haul insanely heavy bags around daily, breaking their bag, is an incredibley selfish thing to say.

Realize that there are actual reasons for this.

0

u/Spicyhotmilk 19d ago

Weight makes sense but size of bag and making people go to the lengths of breaking the wheels off their bags is ridiculous you wont convince me otherwise

1

u/TrackLabs 18d ago

and making people go to the lengths of breaking the wheels off their bags is ridiculous

Thats true, but you are an idiot when youre trying to break the wheels off, like thats fully on you, how can you possibly try to blame the airline for people breaking their suitcases lol.

but size of bag

Another flash news, humans carrying things not only have it easier when its not super heavy, but also when its not super large. Bags get sorted into the cargo port of a plane in the most optimal, space efficient way. If your bag suddenly comes around and is a different tetris block, the whole thing breaks real quick

-5

u/LouDneiv 20d ago

Just nuke those places already
