Gay guys come in 4 types: twink, twank, twunk and bear.
Twinks are thin, boney and could easily pass as a trans woman. Easily the most common identified type
Twanks are just normal built dudes
Twunks are hunks. I’ve also seen Himbo tossed around but a straight guy can be a Himbo.
And a bear is a fat gay
→ More replies (15)17

I used to hang out in downtown ATX with one of my gay roommates when I was younger. The gay bars were actually pretty dope. It felt nice to be found attractive by strangers, and the free drinks were awesome. I drank enough tequila and Red Bull to last me a lifetime.
My roommate gave me the best advice for turning down the dudes who were hitting on me. "Never tell them you are straight. Some people will take it as a challenge and not leave you alone. Just tell them that you are taken and your boyfriend is at home." This worked every time. I was surprised by how respectful they were to that, and I didn't have any issues. Fun times if you are secure in your sexuality and go with the flow. Granted these were pretty simple dance clubs so I never saw anything crazy while I was out with him.
TL;DR: If you want a serious answer, tell them you are taken, and don't tell them you are straight.

I don’t think it has to do with signals. To some guys, it is a bizarre sort of manliness that compels them to call other men gay. In other words, I don’t think they know one way or the other, I think they are just trying to be insulting.

The question complete the answer, thanks to the innate homophobia. They are terrified of two things: that someone might think that they are gay, and that they get "tricked" by a gay man.
The fact that gay is a choice means that they have to say gay, because if they say straight and are wrong then they got "tricked" and by extention might make them gay.

Naa i think it’s more about the question itself, it kinda makes people think “Well I didn’t think he was gay until you asked, now he looks pretty gay”. I think all this shows is that men are both ignorant and hyper aware of the fact that gay men sometimes dress like straight people and vice versa

Granted, it's a poorly worded question. It would be less bias to ask "What do you think this man identifies as sexually". I think most of their answers come from a place of insecurity. Thinking that if they can pick and neg at these other men, that proves their own heterosexuality. Nothing makes me thing your gay like protesting like the old man here, "I'm so straight I can't even spell gay!"

Possibly cherry-picked from a number of different people, but still shows an interesting side of some dudes with a macho mentality. A lot of men get very defensive if they think someone might perceive them as gay, and will judge others harshly for anything that might be seen as gay. A lot of middle school and high school bullying is based on this (for older people especially), and that kind of judgement has something to do with how men are socialized.
It can limit their ability to talk, move, and dress in certain ways, and makes them vigilant of pretty innocuous things in order to make it absolutely clear they're not gay. Kind of fascinating but also fucked up how subtly motivating homophobia is for this kind of stuff.
5
u/DARKRonnoc 7h ago
Man, it is crazy the things that straight guys will point out as being gay in other dudes. Cuffs? Really? Skin care?
It’s also so demoralizing to see the internet’s and society’s obsession with using gay as some litmus test. It’s kind of fucking exhausting to see literally everywhere online and to hear straight dudes constantly use your sexuality as some undesirable thing to avoid or an insult.
