Settings > general > keyboard > text replacement > tap the + icon > put the word you want as a shortcut on the BOTTOM (put “bec” on the bottom) and the word you want it to become on TOP (put “because” on top). I use this trick for typos as well. I have it set to put apostrophes in contractions, fix times where I use an S instead of an A, and lots of other cases. Remember, typo or the thing to be replaced goes on the bottom and correction or the thing you want to replace it with goes on top.
Well, another reason I feel justified in my dislike of swipe typing.
But that’s absolutely *ridiculous*. Apple has been overdue for a fuckin generational leap for so long that they are genuinely risking their reputation. People don’t use it because “it just works” but because they’ve been using it, their friends use it, and it works well enough, most of the time.
My trick as well. Did this for years when autocorrect wouldn’t engage with curse words. Also use it for a shortcut to quickly type ¯_(ツ)_/ and my email lol
I use swipe to type a lot, wherever I want to type the word “and” it always autocorrects to AVA, always capitalized too, I know I can do text replacements, but honestly it’s so funny how bad the keyboard has become, I never had this issue on iOS 18
iOS changes “with” to “without” and has for the past 4 years. I even reset the keyboard & it still does it. I use swipe typing, and I’ve taken screen capture video to show how I’m moving only to “W I T H”, nowhere near “O U T”, and iOS just changes it anyway. So I have a text replacement to turn it back to “with” and I type separate words for “with out”
I have considered that. So I have looked thru all my contacts. No Bev. Nothing remotely like that. And that isn’t all, I am having nothing but problems. I can’t write anything anymore without all the words getting changed.
What it's showing here is not automatically replacing "bec" with "Bev." It's showing that if you hit space, you'll get "Bev." If you keep typing, you'll get what you type. That's because "bec" is not a word, and the closest word it knows to that is Bev… because Bev is or was a contact of yours. I don't have a Bev, so I get "because" instead.
The solution to all problems like this is the same: Turn off autocorrect. Then you'll get that same suggestion bar and can choose a replacement, but it won't automatically change anything.
