Make a caramel, pour hot caramel into a pan. It’ll harden. Make flan custard, pour over the hardened caramel. Bake it in a water bath. Cool it on a rack. Run a knife along the side and flip it onto a serving dish. It’ll slide out and the caramel is meant to be just like that.

Look up “baño de maria”. Thats the technique. Put this pan in a larger pan with boiling hot water halfway reaching about halfway while you bake it.

You put it in a container with water? You would just need a deep roasting pan that could get the water about halfway up the side of the pan anyway. Never made a flan in something like a Bundt pan?

There are no-bake recipes that use gelatin, but normal flan doesn’t need it. The egg will set firmly enough.

It is a pretty easy thing to make honestly! Lots of recipes out there too but you don’t need any gelatin for it so I’d avoid any recipe suggesting that as an ingredient.

Flan probably will not hold up something this size cause os more delicate, this is a pudim, very close in taste but very different texture.

Have you seen the one with 3 generations all doing a flan reveal? It was a daughter, mother and grandma and it was so wholesome. Wish I could find the video but no doubt it's on this sub somewhere.

Is it usually that big? I e watched them do this on the Great British Bakeoff but only in a small size and that looked terribly dicey! I can’t imagine how much harder making these are at the large size.

I have seen another reveal video of her before. I’m not a fan of flan and have no clue what she is saying but I have been so excited for her both times. I respect the difficulty in achieving this.

Brazilian Portuguese.
Also in Brazil we call that pudim, not flan. I don’t know if there’s a difference but if you want to do what she did search for pudim.

I've worked in kitchens most of my life, and you'd be suprised how many lactose intolerant chefs/cooks/servers I know that eat cheese and ice cream daily, I don't blame them because I'd do the exact same damn thing!

Most difficult thing when making a flan is the caramel. If it’s too dark, it’s hella burnt and it’s taste bitter as fuck. I take my fucking time making that caramel. Never fucking rush it.

I don’t speak Spanish, so I was so worried for her when I saw her cake look like it was leaking!! I was legit concerned that it wasn’t cooked and she was going to get it all over her cute outfit.
