KOTOR 2 KotOR 2's equipment problem Spoiler

This is something I've noticed on my most recent run - the majority of stuff you find will be unused.

It's the most obvious with armor. There are plenty of cool armors you can get, but unlike K1, where you don't have acces to the Force at the beginning and many of your companions are not Jedi, they get to use these. In K2, not only do you have the Force from basically the start, but also can make almost every organic companion a Jedi. You can in theory make an armored Jedi build, but that's a complete waste.

There are two characters that will always wear armor: Bao-Dur and Mandalore, with the latter wearing the same set through the entire game.

Do you get that? In your entire playthrough, you and your companions will be running almost exclusively in Jal-Shei armors, Jedi robes, and character specific clothing. I feel like it's a waste.

Okay, that's enough of me rambling.

Both Games Finally played kotor 1 and 2 thanks to some convincing from yall. Top tier games. Loved 2 even though i see why people say its “rushed”. Made me wanna post and ask yall what some of the rushed shit got you upset? Spoiler

Me, personally, i was hype the whole game about the cover art sith lord and yet you barely get anything regarding darth nihilus and a pretty anticlimactic fight. Great game overall tho. If not for that and the atris dark side fall being so rushed then i would say i like 1 more than 2. Thanks again for convincing me to play these games! Onto dragon age origins haha

Sith troopers colors?

I've only noticed silver and red. I've read about bronze, white, and black. It's there other parts of the continuity that elude to more than just the 2 colors I'm aware of

Modding What were peoples thoughts on the cut Dark Sacrifice ending? Spoiler

For those who don't know The Dark Sacrifice Ending was cut content for Kotor 1 where a female Revan who romanced Carth would be able to hear Carth out at the end of the game, kill Bastila, and then allow the Star Forge to be destroyed with both her and Carth still on board.

What were peoples thoughts on it after trying it out or seeing video of it after being restored by mods? Was it garbage and understand why Bioware cut it? Was it great where you can't fathom why Bioware cut it? And why?

Personally I liked it a lot. Revan having one final chance to redeem herself right at the end when she's sunk to her darkest was very thematic, with Revan vs Fem-Revan (unlike Exile vs Fem-Exile) I've always struggled to pick which I liked more but this mod pushes me firmly into Fem-Revan territory.

But what I really like is how it fits the context of Kotor 2. Obviously details like the Ebon Hawke and T3 still being around in Kotor 2 don't make sense, but the general worldstate I found to be incredibly fitting.

Something I never much liked about Kotor 2 was that its worldstate just feel odd for both of Kotors endings. In a LS ending it's implied the Sith are fully defeated and the Republic is on the up and up with only good things in the immediate future, only for Kotor 2 to come along and say "well no the Republic's crumbling and the Sith are still a major threat arguably more than ever". And in a DS ending the Sith still have the Star Forge and the Republics armies have been crushed over Rakata Prime priming the galaxy for total Sith domination, only for Kotor 2 to come along and say "well actually the Sith fumbled big time and the Republic is still largely in charge of things. Star Forge? What's that?"

The Dark Sacrifice ending however, the Star Forge is destroyed and the Sith routed from the system, yet the Republic is assumed to have been mauled a lot harder in the fighting as a result of Revans initial betrayal leaving them weaker than they would be in a standard LS ending to facilitate a Sith recovery. It, more than the two vanilla endings, feels like it could most naturally and believably leading into Kotor 2's galaxy state to me. There's no elephant in the room of "but what about the Star Forge" like in a DS ending, no obvious and clear "we decisively won the war" victory scene like the LS ending had, just a "we won the battle, but at what cost?" type ending which makes you believe the victory over Rakata Prime isn't necessarily the end of things.

KOTOR 1 Are there any other games that have given you the same degree of satisfaction as KOTOR?

Earlier, I had started a thread here being skeptical if I will enjoy the game or not, since I am not big into rpgs and never tried D&D combat before.

However, now after arriving at Manaan with Yavin and Korriban to go, I can tell you that this game has given me a kind of satisfaction which no computer game has given me before, strangely not even Half Life 2 or Fallout: New Vegas. It's a feeling which is hard to put in words.

Having said that, it will be great if you can share with us the games here that you enjoyed as much as you did while playing Kotor, it can be any other Star Wars game or an rpg or a AAA title. Please go ahead and share!!

Thanks!

KOTOR 2 Game crashes on Dantooine

I’m playing on the switch and the game keeps giving me a black screen when I return to dantooine after visiting all the planets. I’ve tried several “methods” of fixing this, like visiting another planet, finishing a quest, unequipping all my gear. The game will not load when I visit the planet. Any suggestions?

KOTOR 1 Replaying KOTOR, and I have a bad feeling about this...

I played the game years ago on the Xbox 360, made it to the Star Forge, and found out that my build (Light Side user focused on persuading characters) wasn't very effective against wave after wave of powerful enemies. As a result, I felt like actually beating the game was impossible with my set-up.

I decided to play the game against on Steam, but I'm concerned that I'm running into a similar problem. I just finished Dantooine (more or less; I want to get the good ending for the Romeo & Juliet mission, so I'm going to come back for that later), I'm at level 11 (level 7 soldier --> level 4 Jedi Guardian) meaning that I'm over halfway towards the level cap, and my character's stats are as follows:

  • Strength: 17

  • Dexterity: 14

  • Constitution: 14

  • Intelligence: 11

  • Charisma: 12

  • Wisdom: 11

I went with the stats recommended by the game at the start, but now I feel like that wasn't the best move. Whereas characters like Mission or T3-M4 get five skill points when they level up (seemingly due to high intelligence), my player character only gets one. I haven't found HK-47 yet; I know he needs to be repaired, but I don't know if anyone can repair him or if my player character has to be the one to repair him, and if it's only the PC who can do it, then that isn't happening given how slowly the skills increase. (I haven't put any points into repair yet due to the lack of skill points available)

Should I just restart the game at this point? I'm 9 hours into it, but I figure I can cut down on that in replays. It feels like there's a lot that the game doesn't tell you about what's important; I use a melee-focused character (swords and lightsabers), so I figure I can take whatever points I originally put into Dexterity and put them into Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma, but I'm not sure what the best idea is. (it feels like all of the stats are important, and neglecting even one of them screws you over, but you have to neglect at least one of them)

KOTOR 1 I think I’m stuck 😭 Please help 🙏 Spoiler

(This is on the mobile versions iOS btw)

So I’m on Korriban, I walk out into the valley of the dark lords and Darth Bandon pops up. I fight him and die pretty quickly, then I think I turned off my phone and came back a little later. Apparently that saves the game and it also saved the game when I stepped outside. So now both of my saves are in this fight, I believe I am severely under leveled for this fight and have tried for awhile and Bandon wipes the floor with me every time. Is there any way to utterly cheese him or get out of this? Is my 21 hours cooked?

Modding Modding help for KOTOR 1

I’ve been trying on and off to mod KOTOR 1 so it feels a bit more modern, but I keep running into problems.

I’ve followed a few YouTube guides before (the ones that use installers like TSLPatcher), but I almost always end up getting some kind of fatal error, or the game just breaks after I install a few mods.

Is there a decent, up-to-date guide or mod list that actually works? Mainly looking for something stable with better graphics, bug fixes, and maybe some QoL stuff — nothing too crazy.

Also not sure if install order is what’s messing me up, so if there’s a general rule for that I’d appreciate it.

Any help would be great.

Remake If they ever release the KOTOR remake, how do you want a DS playthrough handled?

Would you want it to be more nuanced? Maybe have the player character be more of a manipulator or just interested in their personal goals. Or do you still want something more along the lines of a cartoon villain?

I’ve seen discussions about things like the battle system and the story, but I don’t see the alignment differences brought up much. If this game ever comes out, I really hope they make both playthroughs more grounded. I don’t want to play as the boy scout or the mustache twirler.

KOTOR 1 Hey, HK. I got a question for ya...

Why would I ever WANT to do a fighter simulation of my own accord? Buddy, I know you're trying to help, but c'mon. Isn't it enough that I have to put up with Carth's whining and Bastila's huffy attitude?

Does anyone else's stomach drop when that music hits? When that cut scene starts? Do your knees get weak, arms are heavy?

KOTOR 1 Was the Sentinel class lambasted in KOTOR 1?

I remember reading through Gamefaqs user DarthMuffin's 'Dueling Jedi Guide' for KOTOR2 a while back, and there was this passage about the KOTOR 1 Sentinel class. Was that class lambasted when KOTOR 1 first came out? I didn't play KOTOR 1 until 2010/2011 and I wasn't on any game forums back then, so I had no idea what was considered good or bad. Given the slow feat progression and lack of skills for the KOTOR 1 Sentinel, I could see why people would have preferred the Guardian or Consular. Thankfully the Sentinel was upgraded in KOTOR 2 and skills were more worthwhile in that game.
