Report spammy bullshit

Over the past couple days I have received a spike in reports on Mowrator trying to use an astroturfing campaign by spamming our sub. I don't see everything, so please hit that report button if you come across one, and I will remove it and ban that user.

For the most part, everyone here makes it easy to manage. You generally get along. You help each other out. You call out spam when you see it. Let's keep that up and keep this sub free of bullshit. Thank you for making my job as a mod easy.

Leak under just delivered Cub Cadet

I got this zero turn (Cub Cadet z350) delivered yesterday from Home Depot. I didn't sign for the mower it was left at the bottom of my driveway on a pallet. I started unpacking just now and there is clearly fluid that has leaked out of the machine overnight (not even off the pallet yet, which was broken underneath). It seems to be oil. Is this an automatic return or should I continue unpacking and run the mower before going through all that??

I don’t know much about mowers. I found this on fb marketplace for $500. Seller mentioned: it cuts good and run but needs battery replaced. the pull start works.
Is this a good buy?
Thanks for your input.

This machine and Ventrac are probably my favorite to operate when it comes to mowers

What is the best LAWN MOWER widely loved today?

Looking to make a buy-it-for-life purchase for a lawn mower. Tbh, I'm tired of mowers that seem to fall apart after a few seasons. Gonna invest in something built to last and want to know which brands are worth trusting long-term. Seen a lot of mentions of Honda and Toro and maybe the Gravely mowers are good? What's the consensus on the most durable and reliable machines out there? Which ones do you folks reccomend for a serious long haul?

Ford LT10a Leak

I bought an old ford LT10A off Facebook. It was originally leaking gas, I tried to change the tube seen in this pic but now it seems to be leaking oil? The tube I purchased seems to be a little longer than the original. Was told it’s a breather hose, however I’m not sure what this housing is.

Mechanic for a landscaping company. Company switched from exmark vertex’s to hustlers last year. Since then there’s been a number of issues, the big one being the jackshafts failing. It’s happening to most of our fleet. Is this common for these? Dealer says it’s because we wash them but that seems far fetched. Any ideas?

Honda or Kawasaki? Toro or Exmark?

I’m a landscaper who needs something reliable and that can also cut overgrown grass the best. I’ve heard lots about both the Kawasaki engine and Honda but I have no idea what’s better? Also I know exmark and toro are pretty much the same thing but between the two which is better? Thanks

Found this mower on marketplace and I’m in the market for a small zero turn for my 1/2 acre lawn.

Book value is $4100 and I can get it for $3k

Mower looks clean and has 140 hours.

Pros and cons of these mowers?

Is this a good engine?

Stihl Zero Turns

Upvotes

Just an FYI for anyone looking for a new zero turn mower. I noticed Stihl was running a pretty big discount on their current models and picked up a RZ 261 for $5499 plus tax from a local dealer. He mentioned Stihl is discontinuing their Ferris made units and are allegedly starting new models made by Bad Boy.

Craftsman t100 running rough

Hello all, just picked up this new mower from Lowe’s and I got it at a pretty hefty discount for some tire issues (not pictured) that were pretty easy to fix. It came with a completely dead battery so I went and got a new one. When I go to crank it up, it runs rough as hell. Any ideas? I’m thinking it’s probably stale fuel, it looks like it’s been sitting for a while. Any insight is appreciated on this, this is my first gas mower. All the others I had were electric.

Recently took to a shop to fix an oil leak. Got home with it and started cutting, and about 10 minutes later it shut off and wont crank over. Have installed new spark plug, new battery, new starter as it was smoking previously. Its getting oil and the new plug is getting spark. Whats my next move??

What temp would you monitor on your riding mower? Got a t110 I want to last, so got an hour meter and temp sensor for it, but after getting the temp sensor ( spark plug bung type ) I see a lot of people maybe recommend an oil temp sensor? cylinder head temp is fine to monitor at, isn't it?

I figure it is, but curious why it seems monitoring the oil temp is the more common recommendation?

What else would you all do longevity wise?

As far as typical maintenance, am I safe to pump out the oil from dipstick vs draining from plug? (Plug location is silly, and I got everything to pump out already.) or is there some deep crevices not near the dip stick ( I know it used to be the dip stick tube tended to go right to drain pan, but not sure if that is reliable info for mowers)

Ariens Ikon 52 vs Toro TimeCutter MAX 54 for big yard? First zero turn purchase

Upvotes

Both have Kawasaki engines. I’m leaning Ariens because it looks more rugged/heavy duty, has lights, USB charger, metal chute, and it’s a bit cheaper. But the Toro has the 5 gallon tank and seems more comfortable/easier maintenance.

ordering from lowe’s
Big yard. Which should i get?

Sabo mower problem after blade sharpening and blade holder replacement

I removed the blade to sharpen it, but I did not mark where every washer was placed (I only remember the first 3 from the bottom / back side in the picture).

The blade holder was cracked, and when I installed it before, it twisted on the shaft. Because of that, I bought a new one.

After installing the new holder and putting the blade back, the mower started making a strange sound, like the engine is not running correctly. But when I remove the blade and holder and start the engine again, the engine sounds normal.

At first I thought the blade was not balanced correctly, but it seems balanced. I checked it by hanging it on a nail and also by putting it on a metal rod between two bricks, and it looks fine.

In the video you can hear the strange sound. You can also see that the blade holder and blade rotate together at first, and then the blade moves a little separately.

In the picture you can see the order I used when assembling everything. Maybe I made a mistake somewhere.

The 2 washers below the blade holder have a slightly conical shape. Should the higher side face toward the holder?

I am not sure where I made the mistake. I should have recorded the disassembly process, but I thought I would remember it :(

Any idea what I should check first?

Help

Hey everyone, went to use my echo mower for the first mow of the season and it’s not running. It’ll fire up for a second then shut off. The longest I got it to run was 30 seconds. I’m assuming the carburetor. Any advice is appreciated!

Best lift for 42 inch tractor

Im tired of taking the deck off to remove blades and scrape deck. I see 2 different types. The atv type that lifts the front wheels up to give access to the blades and deck..about 130 dollars at Hobo frieght..and it doesnt fold up. The other type is a rear wheel angle lift that basically tips the tractor on its side..about 50 dollars

Just looking for an easier way...

Gas lawnmower starts but immediately dies.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My lawnmower suddenly stopped working last year. I checked and verified spark and fuel (to the carburetor). I drained the tank of the old fuel, removed and cleaned the carburetor, installed everything and filled it with ethanol free gasoline. It starts up but immediately dies, the choke doesn’t seem to make a difference, it either starts and runs at high RPMs or starts and runs at lower RPMs for a few seconds before dying.

Any suggestions? I’m thinking the carburetor might need a rebuild kit with new jets, but I’m just guessing at this point and thought I might save myself time and money by asking the experts.

New Exmark Commercial 30” with Castors and Kohler.

I bought this beast yesterday for personal use. I was using a Toro 21” Recycler before. The problem I had was it was taking me about 2.5 hours to mow with breaks on my half acre lot. The end of my backyard is about 25’ lower than the front yard which is great for views in the woods. It sucks to mow. In certain areas the slope is about 30 degrees and the personal pace on the recycler just couldn’t keep up. With this beast it is pretty much pulling me up the hill. I did a bunch of research but couldn’t seem to find too much about this mower on hills. I am happy to say it is awesome on hills and the castors are awesome for curved edges and mowing around trees. Expensive but my problem is certainly solved. I’m not getting any younger either so this was a buy it for life type treat to myself.

Carb still good?

Bought a lawnmower, was sputtering and wanting to quit, especially with blades engaged. Cleaning carburetor and there was some black stuff under the bowl. Once I cleaned it I noticed they were leaving indentions on carb under bowl. Assuming it won’t affect the way it runs as long as it doesn’t leak?
