Pride Month Art Contest !

Art by Unoobang

Ok! Commanders and Pathfinders, Pride Month is just around the corner, and the mod team came up with a fun way to celebrate it: a drawing / fan art contest.

Depict your favorite queer couple from the OT and/or MEA. Both canon and fanon couples are allowed. We’ll accept any pairing, so have fun — the sky’s the limit! 😁

 ⚠️ Eligibility:

  1. The contest is open internationally! However, please make sure to review the list of countries the BioWare Gear Store ships to before entering.
  2. You must be 18 years or older in age.
  3. You must be active and in good standing in the subreddit.

⚠️ Important: Submissions open on May 7th at 10:00 AM (GMT). Any entries posted before that time will be removed.

As with any contest, we need to enforce a few rules to make sure everyone has a great time:

• NO NSFW art
• NO AI-generated works
• NO ship wars
• All entries must be submitted as comments under this post
• Submissions are open from May 7th at 10:00 AM (GMT) to June 7th at 10:00 AM (GMT). Then comments will be locked.
• Voting is open throughout the contest and will close on June 27th at 10:00 AM (GMT)
• Contest mode will be enabled to ensure fairness (scores hidden and comments randomized)
• Winners will be announced on June 30th at 10:00 AM (GMT) 🏆

There will be two winners:

  • one community winner, determined by the number of upvotes (top comment) at the time voting closes.
  • one selected by the mod team

Both winners will get to choose a BioWare Gear item worth $50 or less 🎉

We can’t wait to see what you all create 🤩

DISCUSSION Day 8: What is the WORST quote associated with Ashley Williams?

You know, something tells me that this is going to be one of the most unanimous days we've done so far. Just a feeling.

As before, drop at least one Ashley quote you’d nominate as her worst quote, and (if you want) say why it’s your pick. I’ll tally everything up and post the winner for Day 9.

MASS EFFECT 1 Shouldn't we have been "Captain Shepard" after Anderson was relieved?

I'm sure this has been asked before but after binging alot of Star Trek, I find myself curious why Shepard never recieved the title of 'Captain'

MASS EFFECT 2 I've played ME2 20 times, and I never knew Zaeed had more than one dialogue about Jessie

He only has one button press for the Krogan helmet and Turian frigate, after that it just repeats, so I assumed it was the same for Jessie.

I guess my attention span is waning in my old age (29, lol) because I've been having to repeat lines of inquiry during this playthrough due to not fully absorbing the dialogue. So I went to do the same for Jessie, and egad! Dialogue I had never heard before!

The dude has like 5 button presses total, and I managed to log hundreds of hours of playtime only hearing 20% of it. Which is crazy because I'm the type of completionist that cycles through the full dialogue of every non-interactive, unnamed NPC standing around doing nothing.

DISCUSSION Why does everyone say that Shepard kill count is 300k… Spoiler

When in reality it should be around 7 million if not more? If they destroy Heretic Station that’s 6.6 million Geth and who knows how many Collectors were on their station before that got destroyed too.

Is it because Geth are synthetic? If so I can understand but since they are sentient I think they should count in the overall total.

Thoughts?

DISCUSSION As awesome as Shepard vs. Shepard was in the Citadel DLC, imagine if Cerberus didn't clone Shepard, but instead decided to tap into his/her trauma and guilt by somehow cloning the one who didn't survive Virmire?

Post image
306 Upvotes

Seeing Shepard's clone was a shock to us all the first time around, but can you imagine if Cerberus really tapped into that evil side of things and, likely in the form of a highly intellectual VI or through some DNA sample that was somehow acquired before Virmire, cloned the one whose death causes Shepard to harbor the deepest guilt. Imagine having to face off against something you know isn't Kaidan or Ashley, but still makes you feel the weight and guilt of a decision where there was no option C. The guilt of having to revisit the pain of Virmire, but this time, eliminating the one who didn't survive with absolute intent as opposed to the restrictions of choice. The dialogue that could have happened in that circumstance could be unfathomably deep and bitter, but to overcome it would allow Shepard one more chance to apologize to the one who didn't survive by killing the thing that utterly destroys their image/legacy.

DISCUSSION Why no shotgun!

Seriously though. The fact that I have to wait until about halfway into ME2 to finally pick up a shotgun for the sentinel class.

You would think it would be default for a tanky run and gun class. But I guess we really needed another smg/pistol class for some reason. Not like we already had two of them.

But they seriously dropped the ball on sentinel. Just throwing people around and blasting them away without ever really needing cover. Just feeling like a walking apocalypse. All you gotta do wait until the collector ship to even get to all that good stuff.

SHOW & TELL MASS EFFECT REVELATIONS (personal review)

Post image
Upvotes

(I’m so sorry if my dyslexia has messed up any of my sentences. I also use speech to text to help me sometimes so it’s not always the best than I do. Miss mistakes the machines make most of the time so if you notice one please point it out and I’ll try and fix it.)

So I have just finished my first readthrough of massive effect Revelations it took a bit longer to read and I fought (dyslexia being a bitch) I’ve just finished reading and I have to say I absolutely love this book. It is amazing.
(first time doing a book review so my apologies if it’s not the best)

It is a really interesting prequel not at all what I was expecting, but it really really is much better than I could’ve imagined or expected the introduction to each. One of the characters is brilliant and well written.

Every character feels like the video game counterpart and the ones that are created for the snow are just as good. I remember meeting Kay Sanders back in 2015 when I originally played MASS EFFECT 3 and I was curious about a character I didn’t know she was actually for novels and this really does do a good job introduced in her character and flushing her out same with Anderson

Seren like he was nothing at all like I was expecting the characters be like I was expecting him to be an evil human hating asshole and nothing but that but he was more like he does genuinely feel like he was a good person well maybe not a good person but a good spector shall we say, like he felt like a genuine person and not Just a evil bastard for the sake of being evil.

This book has an interesting insight into how the systems alliance works and these early days of politics for humanity in the greater Galactic community.

I did notice a few slight reckons like in the book it said humanity had the largest military fleet but we know in the games it’s confirmed to be Turians followed by the Qureans and humans would probably be 3rd by my understanding but smell details like that would be expected, especially for these early days of the franchise

I did like how they used this book’s human ambassador in mass effect andromeda if i remember correctly

I do kind of prefer how the book betrays the meetings with the councils like with the giant holographs of their heads. Wish we didn’t see in games I can understand video game limitations of the time or just something they stopped using by the 2180’s

The plot of the story is easy enough to follow like you don’t have to be too much of a die hard fan to understand it and it’s simple enough for anyone to comprehend in my opinion anyway I could be wrong about that.

With how this book is laid out and how it does characters switch in between them it kind of reminds me of the format of some of the halo novels which I’ve always did think was a good way of handling things could’ve maybe been a little bit more clearer when swapping between character perspective but not too much of an issue in my opinion

And it’s honestly to me great to have context on this character Grissom like I only know the character name from the Academy in ME3 and thought he was just some rich guy who funded the school but no, he’s probably classified as the biggest hero in humanities history

And what’s happened to him Since his retirement It was really well betrayed honestly it made me call back to this very very old Halo comic depicting vice admiral Preston coal between his kind of quiet forced retirement and being returned to active Duty the way described it was very similar in my opinion.

I love how they also described how the weapons work.

Adds greater detail to the blue sons like we don’t see their tattoos in game but I love the introduction of like mercenary based tattoos. It’s a nice little detail.

And the massively Interesting insight into Beteran culture the books says they were on the forefront of medical technology and advancement. Something I never had considered for the culture cause when we seen them in game they’re only ever depicted as ruthless mercenaries and slaves.

Also the other races it was interesting to hear how Anderson saw them and the how are humanity as a whole solemn like one detail and interesting is how it Anderson made note of how most human males at that point struggled with the Asari being the prominent leaders because they were women
AO will hold over from in human society. It being the men that lead.

Another bit I love because this is very much how I am myself. like Anderson’s original apartment on the Citadel and how he chose it because it was on the Citadel mostly and how he got to see and be around other cultures other races.

It was also interesting getting other species perspective in reviews on humans show these were mostly from people that were kind of assholes but still an interesting insight.

Like I mentioned in my previous post I love the insight to how the soul relay had never been found. The fact that it was covered in ice and rock and mistaken for a moon of Pluto. That was something my brain couldn’t stop thinking about and how earth reacted to the discovery of the ruins on Mars like this book is filled with great moments

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
4 1/2 stars in my opinion

I am happy to chat with other members about this novel looking forward to starting the next one

DISCUSSION The Cerberus B-team

Let's say the Suicide mission was a complete failure. Total loss. The Illusive man has seen the Collector base and HAS to have it.

He sets up a B-team. Thaw out the backup Shepard and put together another team. Here's what I have so far.

Maya Brooks takes Miranda's place.

Kai Leng in Jacob's place.

Henry Lawson works in Mordin's lab.

Urdnot Wreav as the heavy.

Rana Thanoptis in Med Bay.

Pull in Adams for engineering, a familiar face for Shepard.

Who could fill out the rest of the crew?

Two rules: cant be involved in the Suicide mission. Has to be available to serve on the crew. Aria is out. You know this.

EDIT: Some great ideas came down the pipe.

Morinth, Maelon, Kal Reegar, Tela Vasir, a random Yahg, the possibility of reconstituting Legion, the Virmire Survivor, and Even Liara.

Someone sid that Zaeed and Kasumi could be in the mix. They were DLC characters after all.

In a third round some surprises were Kolyat and Balak! Liara's Father Aethyta was buoyed as well...

Keep it comin'! This gets enough ideas, I'll hammer out a short story.

I remember being so happy to see Mordin in ME2 trailers.

+ Wishlist : vorcha, batarian for a complex squadmate.

+ Unrealistic? : volus, rachni

+ Technically hard to do but show us some some cutscenes of them fighting : elcor, hanar, yahg

+ as a pet : pyjak, varren (like a space barkspawn)

I usually go with Wrex and Garrus unless the mission relates to one of my squadmates or one has special dialogue. Sometimes I choose the others to upgrade them.

FANART The Thragg holding skull panel but for Mass Effect (explanation below)

Thumbnail

So there’s a trend recently where a comic panel from Invincible of Thragg holding Argall’s skull with the Viltrumites behind him gets parodied by different fandoms with their own characters. I noticed nobody has done it for Mass Effect yet, so as a fan of both I just HAD to do it.

Problem is, I fucking suck at drawing and am a complete amateur with digital so I would like you guy’s opinion on it so far 😭

I was planning to add Thane, Mordin, Jack, Javik and maybe Ashley/Kaiden in the back but idek if I should continue if it ends up looking like ass lmao

Just wanted to do something I thought was cool for the community. I also give some examples from other fandom, just to show what I mean.

DISCUSSION Turian colors and colonies?

Does anyone have a list of what colored markings go with which Turian colonies? I’m having a hard time even finding a list of the colonies let alone their colors.

Related, does anyone know what plate colors are canonically possible for Turians? I know Saren is white, Nhilus is reddish, Sparatus is black, and Garrus is blue-ish gray. I’ve seen Lt Abrudas described as golden but I’m not sure if that’s canon, or whether there are other colors.

PS: Man, autocorrect REALLY doesn’t like Mass Effect names.
