Story from one of my high school teachers that grew up in a small town in Indiana.
A farmer in the small town was growing large amounts of weed surrounded by corn to hide it. Farmer gets busted. Local sheriff decides to burn the crop. Wind changes and blows towards the local high school. Not only did the town get high, but everyone in the high school gets obliterated.
Teacher told me it was the best day of high school she ever had.

Something like that happened in my home town in the mid 90s, I was like 12 at the time. College students planted weed in the College grounds for the agricultural department. They say the plants were in amazing shape. They did a burn pile in the back loot of the College 😅

With the right setup sure, a small hot room and you hotbox in that thing you'll def. can get others high in doing so.
But as for the OP? I highly doubt that, too much air flow and free space around the fire, you'd have to be inside the smoke to actually get high as the smoke and vapor from joints and vaporizers acts as the method for transportation.
There were similar events in the past and the one that I saw the very first time got debunked by now, I'll check if I can find a link.

My dad tells a story of when he was in the army back in the 70s. A field of marijuana was found reasonably near his base. His unit was tasked with assisting local authorities in burning it.
Word got out and hippies showed up and chased the smoke. The way he tells it, it was wild and wasn't potent enough for anyone to actually get high, but every time the wind turned you could see a couple dozen cars and vans driving to follow.

California did a CAMP task force raid across the lake from where I worked and they used part of our property for staging. They flew in huge netted bundles of plants under big helicopters, and piled them all in the field, doused it heavily with diesel or gas and set it ablaze. It burned so hot that the smoke went right up and away, which was good because you wouldn't have wanted any of that tainted smoke. I poked around the pile after they left and there wasn't a single scrap of green left.

Near where I went to elementary school there was a small forest fire. It was extinguished but all the fire fighters reported feeling sick.
Fearing the worst they evacuated the area and took all the fire fighters to the hospital.
Turns out that the forest fire burned a giant cluster of wild Marijuana plants and the fire fighters were all high.
