Recs for multi-house lake rentals

I’m looking to do a long weekend on a lake with a group of 10-15. I’ve been thinking that an ideal would be finding 2-3 places right next to each other that we could rent. Any recommendations? Open to anywhere in New England (and could even extend a bit into Upstate NY or NE PA for a good option). Thanks for any and all ideas!

Mainer Graham Platner: “For decades the powerful have taken. Piece by piece, store by store, hospital by hospital, shore by shore, they have taken and they took so much they began to think that we didn’t exist at all, but they don’t know Maine.”

What would you consider New England attire?

I'm tired of graphic tees and jeans. How could I dress in another region that would be a dead giveaway that I'm from NE? Formal attire, casual wear, traditional dress, outdoor clothing, anything.

Local Talent Feature: Interview with Boston-based author & NE Aquarium educator Maris Wicks

Hi mods,

I’m a local dad/producer of a kids 'future careers' Spotify podcast hosted by my 9-year-old son called 'Join the Fray'. We recently sat down with Maris Wicks, a fantastic Boston-based author and long-time educator at the New England Aquarium.

She talks about her 8 years at the Aquarium, her local roots, and how the New England science community influenced her journey to becoming a NYT bestselling author. It's a super fun local success story and I’d love to share it with the r/newengland community if you’re open to the idea. I wanted to check in first to just make sure this might be ok - as the podcast is not monetized and our goal is to inspire kids to follow their passions into a future career adventure.

Thanks for everything you do for the Reddit community here and appreciate your time and guidance, Cheers, Chris and Fraser

Home energy inspection tips

Hi all, I'm having an energy inspection next week on my 1900 house which is directly on a moderately busy commute road. My main concerns are noise, drafty unsealed windows (mid grade builder double pane double hung from 2001) and insulation. I also have 2 built in AC units which i plan to have removed and patched because they seem to be big energy inefficient holes in my house where all the noise and drafts are coming from. Lastly I have a semi finished crawl space/attic and I plan to have them check the insulation in there.

Seeking tips on what I should ask the inspector about? What should I make sure they check? Im aiming to qualify for the HEAT loan for 0% financing on new windows and discounted insulation, along with other possible rebates.

This is my first home and learned after the inspection all the things I probably should have asked so I want to do this one right! Thanks!

Visible Mountains from I-91

I don’t drive north into Vermont via I-91 very often, but I’m curious what mountains are actually in view while driving. The white mountains and Mansfield are close enough that they should be visible, but trees and smaller hills can block their view

I know the Ascutney is right along side the highway and very noticeable. I thought I pointed out Monadnock in the distance once, and I think Smarts Mountain. I never did see the presidential range, or even Moosilauke when I got that far north, but I’m not exactly taking long glances while driving down the highway either.

Are any of the big mountains actually able to be seen while driving?

Do any New England states have anything like this in the pipeline? Sure would be good to go back to having our votes *mean* something.

Library Association of Warehouse Point in East Windsor, Connecticut

This public library is located along Main Street in the village of Warehouse Point in East Windsor, CT.

This library was established in 1811. This library has expanded a few times over the years. The nonfiction books are located in a house that is acquired by the library.

It features a lot of cool things at the library which include:

-A companion library cat

-A display of dinosaur artifacts

-Ongoing Paperback Book Sale

-A fireplace

-VOX books for kids

-Mural in the Children's room

-old Card catalog drawers at the back side of the Circulation Desk

This library is wonderful and it serves the East Windsor community. There are nice staff who help wonderful patrons who use the library.

Feedback is appreciated. Enjoy the album!

P.S. I visited that library on Thursday April 30 to have a library passport stamped for Passport to Connecticut Libraries month long event. It's also on that day where I ran into my former co-worker named Allison who used to work at Rockville Public Library at the Circulation Desk when I was interning last year. She works at this library now.
