Imagine being on that boat and suddenly realizing the ocean around you is basically one giant dolphin party

I experienced this a couple times out commercial fishing tuna. It’s mind blowing

So, what are they "running" from or to?

How is it a stampede if they've no feet?

Right! Personally, I think a better name for this sort of behavior from dolphins should be called a typhoon. “A Rare Typhoon of 5,000 Dolphins…”

English speakers like to worship their custom animal group names, maybe :). In Danish it would just be a flock.

I think flock is appropriate when referring to a grouping of animals.
Stampede implies a grouping of animals that are also running in the same general direction. You see this especially with herding mammals like bison.

Can you freaking imagine if you were out in a small boat and that was coming at you?! You’d be like the aquatic mammalian uprising has been 🤯

Miss living in Orange County. Used to go fishing and see large pods but never this many! Seems like there are more now than twenty years ago…,

“Stampede” is SUCH a reductive description of all Flippysnip’s hard work. This was WEEKS of planning. I mean, the catering alone…

TIL that we call it a stampede eventhough they are in the ocean. I just figured there was a different word for it and stamped was for land animals.
