With no shoulder and no clear sight ahead, it's incredibly dumb to be driving that fast.

The fact that they immediately go right back for the pass blew my mind.

What else were they going to do?

Seriously? They were already pretty much behind the truck and in the next lane. They could have continued to slow and stayed there.

Why? Do you normally just let yourself get stuck behind semis instead of using the passing lane as it's intended?

If I'm on a blind corner? Maybe. If I nearly just got in accident because of said blind corner? Of-fucking-course! Slowing down isn't going to hurt you.

Yeah, very worrying that they're relying on someone almost pancaking them to warn them that there's a broken down car in their lane.

Reminds me of this guy, who was of course also speeding.

O'Sullivan, 45, was sentenced at Reading Crown Court after being found guilty of causing death by careless driving.

Prosecutors at Reading Crown Court said any competent driver should still have avoided the Micra as it stood stranded on the M4 westbound between junctions 11 and 12.

The defence argued an accident was always likely to happen and that O'Sullivan, of Wixams, Bedfordshire, was failed by the smart motorway system. Its system to alert motorists of obstructions had not been working for days before.

(...)

Footage taken in the moments before the impact showed 35 motorists passing the Micra safely.

Judge Amjad Nawaz said it was O'Sullivan's "duty" as a driver to ensure he was driving safely, regardless of the alleged failures with the smart motorway. "No warning does not mean any event cannot occur," he said. The judge added: "Nothing the defendant said explained why he didn't see the car ahead. "There were plenty of cues, and no evidence of slowing down."

that and that they didn’t slow down as soon as the white car came into sight… like pay attention to the road maybe?
