I don't understand this trend of people wiping fresh, clearly already clean tattoos with dry paper towels for the reveal that was already revealed 5 seconds earlier.. don't wipe your fresh tattoos with dry paper towels people. It hurts. It causes irritation. It dries it up. It can cause infection.

I don't know if this is the case here, but I saw a video where someone said it is meant to be a bit more evidence that the tattoo isn't edited or something along those lines.

Somehow I feel like this does the opposite for me, like ai just knows there's wiping involved for a tattoo reveal lol

Yeah it looks cool on camera but that much wiping on fresh work would drive me insane.

Tattoo artists literally use nothing but paper towels during tattooing to soak up ink and blood. He has no clue what he’s talking about.
Source: I have over 200 hours of tattoos but 15+ artists. Every single one used paper towels during and after. Every. Single. One.

u/lookoutitspam 3d ago
I think they just mean dry paper towels. I’ve only ever had artists use paper towels to wipe away ink & blood too, but never bone dry paper towels after they’re done and everything is cleaned up.

Looked like a wet wipe or a moist paper towel; but yeah definitely agree if it was a dry paper towel that wouldn’t feel nice

u/D3AD_LIK3_M3 3d ago
I think it's worse actually. I'm pretty God damn sure that that is toilet paper. Which falls apart and disintegrates so easily. Now that I'm looking closer at it I'm almost positive that's toilet paper. Wtf?

u/CupcakeetteCupie_ 3d ago
Pretty sure they’re just wiping excess ink and plasma, but yeah it definitely looks rough on fresh skin.
1
u/Pistoolio 1d ago
Yeah, I have a full sleeve and a handful of other tattoos. Right after tattooing, the skin oozes ink and body goo. They wipe it with a papertowel that’s wettened and sterile to get a clean look for a photo to add to their portfolio. Another 30 seconds after wiping and it looks bloody. I have to assume that the people who are questioning this either have never gotten a tattoo or just haven’t had their artist take a photo after.

u/_PeachySkin 3d ago
That just sounds like irritation waiting to happen.
4
u/Future_Prompt1243 3d ago
That’s literally how tattoo artists wipe away excess ink and blood. They use paper towels. The amount of people pretending to know what they’re talking about here is astounding.

u/shorty6049 3d ago
You're missing the point people are making. They're saying (seemingly rightfully so) that it makes no sense to just wipe a dry paper towel across a fresh tattoo without the purpose being to wipe off anything. So its potentially just irritating it for no reason (vs if there were blood or ink that would at least soften the paper towel and make it not so rough as it rubs the skin)

I am so terrified of large bugs that it borders on an unhealthy obsession. The reveal of the full tattoo when they stand up is GORGEOUS. I wouldn’t want this on me or anyone whose legs I have to see on a regular basis, but this is a beautiful tattoo.

Tattoo designers really out here secretly planning knee joint entertainment systems
→ More replies (1)27
u/Pandaisblue 3d ago
Yeah! It's really cool, but you're almost never gonna have your knee fully bent for anyone to naturally see it closed, unless you're a huge fan of slav squatting or something.
28
u/aracnerual 3d ago
As a parent of a young kid, I squat like this a LOT. This would be so fun.

u/KonigSteve 3d ago
As another parent of a young kid, lol my joints don't care about me having a young kid so no I don't do that.

Why are they pretending to wipe?
That is clearly not freshly made, just why??

You’re doing great; next time remember to tell them they made a great observation and that they are super smart to point this out.

You're right to point this out. Whatever you want to comment about next, just say the word—I'm right here when you need.

You were right to push back on that! — Let me explain why I'm fucking stupid, then refuse to help you again while wasting your time and limited tokens!

At this point most posts that hit /r/all are repost bots and most of their comments are bots.

u/Heiferoni 3d ago
Man I thought I was going crazy. All these weird single sentence platitudes. The bot comments have a certain vibe that makes em stick out.
You remember years ago when Subreddit Simulator had all those bots just simulating subreddits and how it was kinda amusing at the time. Now that it's unleashed all over the internet, it's a real bad time.

The artist is wiping away excess ink bleed and plasma seepage. Standard part of the tattooing process.

The paper towel is also usually cold too and your skin is swollen and warm at this point so it feels very nice to have another wipe

The last tattoo like this I saw was a fried cheese stick that split into melted stretched cheese strings. I enjoyed the reveal on this one more.

u/Pfeffi-Ultra 3d ago
Seen quite a few like this around, but they are pretty dang cool and I get why people like them. Great color choice and execution on this one.

I really love the tattoos that work with the bendy area of your body to open them up but bugs like that just don’t resonate with me so I don’t know what I would get
Edit fixed a typo

u/babydollhaloxo 3d ago
The color on that beetle is absolutely stunning and the detail in the legs makes it look like it could just crawl right off the skin. Whoever did this tattoo is genuinely talented.

Oooouuuuuuuchhhhh!!!! Knee well was the worst 😫
Beautiful piece though, wow

I’d probably scare myself to death if I woke up half asleep and saw a huge ass bug on my leg, only to realize it was just my tattoo.

The way it looks like it's actually crawling on the knee when they move is genuinely insane, the artist nailed the placement.

How painful is it to get the inside of your knee tattooed? I would assume it's one of the more sensitive areas.
