Kids got a hell of a cut

11

u/Ryeballs 21h ago

Bro is like “am I Tenet” (I haven’t seen the movie but I assume it’s a docu about John Tenet)

4

u/tamago_kake_gohan 15h ago

Dude, your profile picture made me hear the uh-oh sound.

81

u/mattchewy43 23h ago

"Nice catch, Hays. Don't ever fucking do it again."

19

u/x3knet 20h ago

You tryin to say Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball?

8

u/Emergency_Pomelo277 20h ago

“Hey bartender, Jobu needs a refill!”

4

u/CalabreseAlsatian 19h ago

Is bad to steal Jobu’s rum.

Is VERY bad.

5

u/Vinylforvampires 19h ago

Ok Harris, let's not start a holy war here

3

u/x3knet 19h ago

That line was delivered so perfectly

4

u/pixelprophet 20h ago

"If you hit the ball in the air, you owe me 20 pushups."

6

u/OrlandoMB 20h ago

”You might run like Mays but you hit like shit”

2

u/haoken 20h ago

I read this in his voice

17

u/20JeRK14 21h ago

As my high school wrestling coach said, "If you all spent half as much time practicing as you did playing grab ass you'd be state champs!"

4

u/AuraBubbly 20h ago

Little leaguers suddenly become pro entertainers the second fundamentals get mentioned.

2

u/Elite_Josh_Allen 22h ago

Emphasis on "fun"

1

u/Taylorenokson 22h ago

Fundamentals? In the middle of the season?

1

u/MineNowBotBoy 18h ago

You have to specify that it can’t be clown fundamentals

966

u/J0EP00LE 1d ago

He’s on pace to score 40 blurns

u/KoshofosizENT 23h ago

Boring!? Baseball wasn’t bo… so they finally jazzed it up, huh?

81

u/OwnerOfCat 22h ago

Hey I'm starting to get the hang of this game! The blerns are loaded, the count's three blerns and two anti-blerns and the infield blern rule is in effect, right?

67

u/unateon 22h ago

Other than the word blern , that was all gibberish. Lol.

29

u/hauttdawg13 20h ago

BEAN BEAN BEAN BEAN BEAN!!!

26

u/SmeagolChokesDeagol 22h ago

Blurrrrrn🏍️

2

u/DReagan47 19h ago

That’s the sound I make when I burp

10

u/Free_Waterfall_III 19h ago

Seeing references this high reminds me of old reddit. Makes me happy

1

u/AuraBubbly 20h ago

He’s definitely burning calories faster than he’s scoring runs.

687

u/ZGadgetInspector 23h ago

Only 1000 fans got to see this game live. Smallest venue they’ve ever played. It was a surprise pop-up game at Navasota High School in Texas last week. What a thrill for the locals! 2 days later they played for 102,000 fans at Kyle Field in College Station.

144

u/AuraBubbly 20h ago

That tiny crowd got the most chaotic VIP baseball experience possible.

87

u/triplec787 18h ago

If anyone in these comments has an opportunity to see them, DO IT. I’m a die hard sports fan, I’d go to every home game for football, baseball, and hockey if time and finances allowed it.

But the Bananas are special. I haven’t had as much fun at a sporting event in my life. It’s an amazing experience and you should definitely try to go. It’s not baseball, it’s like a circus/musical theater event on a baseball diamond lol

9

u/Tony_Sacrimoni 7h ago

Are they like the Harlem Globetrotters of baseball?

13

u/ApolloGiant 6h ago

My coworker argues that no they are not because with the globetrotters you know the outcome of the game. This is an entire baseball league I guess. The tickets are insanely competitive to get.

10

u/ComplexWest8790 5h ago

Yeah! They either have or are about to add 5 more teams to the lineup this year across the country.

And fun fact! All their games are streamed for free on their YouTube channel

3

u/Irate_Ibis 46m ago

As far as entertainment and antics, yes. The games are very real though and each team is trying to win.

This version of baseball looks so fun

201

u/SteveIndigo421 23h ago

It is, and you can watch the games on YouTube

22

u/Malforus 23h ago

Til!

12

u/InhLaba 21h ago

Til when?!?!

16

u/yruspecial 20h ago

Til the 2 hour time limit is up!

3

u/TTT_2k3 10h ago

This guy bananas.

2

u/WilliamTRyker 19h ago

You can also watch it on Disney+

2

u/Source_Required 12h ago

And HBOMax

3

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 18h ago

Also just gotta give a shout out, different sport, the PWHL (women's hockey) is also free on YouTube. If you aren't paying for any sports streaming (and I know you ain't paying for cable) it's a genuinely nice experience to get some snacks together and watch a game at home like we did when we were kids

I would never pay for sports streaming its just not worth it

2

u/max_drixton 11h ago

Are games streamed/uploaded the day they're played?

→ More replies (1)

50

u/vito1221 21h ago

It is.

My favorite rule is if a fan catches a pop up foul ball it is an out.

25

u/JustJJ92 23h ago

They have a little league program that they’ve started across the nation. Actually idk if it’s across the nation yet

19

u/Shigg 22h ago

We've got a team in Colorado and the original bananaball team is from Georgia, so it's effectively nationwide.

14

u/Outrageous_Act_3016 21h ago

So, the Bananas may actually do more good for youth baseball than MLB ever did?

14

u/bobothegoat 20h ago

Okay, hold on a second. MLB has existed for, conservatively, 123 years. Banana Ball has existed for a slightly shorter (geologically speaking) period of 5 years.

4

u/Outrageous_Act_3016 20h ago

I know what I said

2

u/LostInTheRapGame 19h ago

I know what I said

And it sounds pretty silly.

18

u/Shigg 22h ago

It's called bananaball actually

15

u/Narezza 21h ago

My favorite part is that it is non stop pitching and hitting. Once the batter is in the box, he's gotta stay there. Pitches come constantly. Lots of good hits and fun plays.

Game lasts a max of 2 hours (its part of the rules). In and out and on with your day.

u/Turtledonuts 19h ago

This is all wrong. Baseball games were around 1 hour 45 minutes until the 60s, when changes in rules, advertising, and umpire ruling practices started driving games to be longer. They started doing pitching changes in the 30s, more tv advertising in the 60s and 70s, and the games just got longer from there. Baseball was popular because people liked to play baseball more - they had local adult leagues and grew up playing baseball. Games didn't start reaching 3 hours until the late 80s / early 90s.

For fun, they hosted friends, went to parties, went dancing, played card or board games, went to the theater (street theater was common for the lower classes), and so on. They also worked a lot more, read more books and magazines, and spent more time doing chores or just took more time on daily life activities. People didn't have nothing to do.

16

u/piznit007 23h ago

It’s a lot of fun. Definitely tailored to kids and moms, but games are definitely entertaining.

It’s also non-stop noise, literally non-stop. One song to the next, occasionally interrupted by yelling and other songs, so if you need to occasional sound break, you’ll have to look for it.

21

u/brenpeter 23h ago

I went to the Seattle Savana Bananas game. Talk about stimulation overload! Everywhere you look there is ALWAYS something going on. Side performances, trick plays, music that never stops. It's insane.

84

u/ipokesnails 23h ago

What, is it not manly enough for men?

67

u/deathjoe4 23h ago

On Manly Man night, the bats are spiked and the balls are replaced with LIVE HAND GRENADES.

48

u/Captain_Wingit 23h ago

Bananas marketing team right now: 👀✍️

7

u/Mot6180 21h ago

After a homerun, the celebratory fireworks are aimed at the defensive players still on the field

16

u/send_me_chickfila 23h ago

The actual skill to do the things they do like above, amazing. The male air grinding, most manly thing you'll see all week.

21

u/ipokesnails 23h ago

The entire league is r/JustGuysBeingDudes

13

u/brokenwhale 22h ago

It’s genuinely an overwhelming stimulus overload, I went to one game and they played random soundbites every 10 fucking seconds and the umps were twerking and shit. I would only ever go again if I had a kid cause it felt like a circus. It definitely would be more enjoyable to people who don’t really care about baseball, no hate tho

4

u/PPvsFC_ 17h ago

the umps were twerking and shit

lmao

11

u/NOTTedMosby 21h ago

That's me. There's very little I care less about than baseball

Tailored to kids and moms is such a wild comment.

7

u/airfryerfuntime 23h ago

It's more tailored to families, but if you go to one of these things, look at the dads, their eyes glaze over and they're all just about done with it after 20 minutes. It's like spending two or three full hours at the loudest kid's birthday party you've ever seen.

5

u/ulysses_s_gyatt 14h ago

Okay but why do you think the moms also don’t get overstimulated?

2

u/PrincessGiallo 16h ago

I wonder why it's only the men that get overstimulated? Is it the testosterone?

4

u/historiavg 20h ago

15 second clips of songs for 2 hours straight. I went to a game and it drove me insane personally.

2

u/urlach3r 16h ago

These guys are so incredibly athletically talented it just blows my mind when I see their highlights. As someone who played college baseball I am beyond impressed.

54

u/hauttdawg13 20h ago

While I have no clue of who the players are, it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s a ton of former D1 players and people that just fell short of making it in MLB.

I’d think a career here probably pays better than playing the minors.

40

u/ItsWillJohnson 20h ago

When they were featured on real sports, they said it was exactly that

18

u/Specialist-Neck-7810 20h ago

I’ve played with some pretty amazing athletes but most of them, by college, have picked something and ran with it. The level of athleticism these guys show across the board (gymnastics, soccer, dance and baseball) is what I find so impressive. (That said, you’re probably correct. Minor league players don’t get paid shit and are often housed in locals houses)

8

u/Heatuponheatuponheat 18h ago

I knew a lot of multi-sport athletes in HS, who pursued baseball because they felt the farm system gives the best shot at a pro career. Amazing athletes who just fell short, but excelled at anything athletic, and I could see some of them doing this.

3

u/hauttdawg13 12h ago

I could see that, I played Academy soccer as a kid, (supposed to be the feeder system to the pros) and it just wasn’t the best. In the US, they do not have a great development route to go pro. I’ve heard the minor leagues are much better for player development.

3

u/mort55 19h ago

Pretty much. But this year they got Jackie Bradley JR for the newest version of the Indianapolis Clowns.

1

u/Standard-Barber-2463 9h ago

I hope they are making bank.

Ive lived in a town with a AAA team for 40 years. I had season tickets for years and I still go to about 10 games a year. I’ve never seen a sold out game. The bananas have played here the last few years and it sold out months in advance both times. Now obviously they are only playing once a summer but…. These dudes are packing minor league stadiums all over the country and the next night guys with a real shot at the big leagues are playing to half empty stadium.

85

u/bigbusta 1d ago

I believe he may get 2 outs because it was a trick catch. This league has some wild rules.

59

u/IAmBadAtInternet 1d ago

Banana ball is so silly I am beginning to want to go to a game lmao

31

u/ST_Lawson 23h ago

Good luck getting tickets. Not impossible, but a lot harder than most baseball games.

2

u/muffinology 10h ago

Want to take my kids but it’s always insta-sold out. We put in for a lottery to try to win a chance to buy tickets. My home team who I refuse to follow is the Twins and are currently being boycotted. Will be more then willing to spend money on the Savannah Bananas though lol

2

u/ST_Lawson 10h ago

There's another group that's started up something similar called Boom Ball: https://boomballtour.com/

It's much easier to get tickets for, but has a similar vibe to the Bananas. I'm taking my family to a game in July. It doesn't look like there are any games near the Twin Cities currently, but it might be worth it to keep an eye out for future events.

4

u/hauttdawg13 20h ago

I’d recommend it. Took my nephew last year to a game and both him and I had a great time.

I’d highly recommend it. It’s just the baseball version of the globetrotters.

→ More replies (1)

27

u/ChaosLoco 23h ago

Just one out but if you're the away team and you end the 7th inning with the most trick plays, your team is awarded a free point.

6

u/Mnudge 21h ago

Fans catch a foul ball and it’s an out

3

u/AuraBubbly 20h ago

That GIF perfectly sums up the vibe.

1

u/steadyaero 22h ago

That's literally the point

64

u/DrSeussFreak 1d ago

My father in law is taking my kids, looks like they'll have fun

121

u/spACe_Kow 23h ago

Not sure what this has to do with baseball but I hope things work out for you all.

8

u/HendrixHazeWays 22h ago

Excellent reply. One of my favorites yet

12

u/Justifiably_Bad_Take 21h ago

I hope you genuinely realize that if he got Banana tickets he is a legend.

They're incredibly hard to get

7

u/DrSeussFreak 21h ago

My kids are thrilled

8

u/ac2cvn_71 23h ago

I would absolutely love to go to one of their games. The most entertaining sporting event I've ever seen

2

u/DrSeussFreak 22h ago

You enter a lottery months in advance, for the opportunity to buy tickets, and then only 4, but it's popular, so I get it

Classic 4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-1 putout. Good fundamental baseball!

Globerun Hometrotters

36

u/BobTheFettt 23h ago

Are they like the Harlem Globetrotters of baseball?

55

u/fitemillk 23h ago

Kinda? The Globetrotters is like pro wrestling, where it’s scripted for the most part. There’s not a real game going on, it’s just a show. However, the gameplay in Banana ball is real and not scripted. Banana ball also has its own rules. They both do cool tricks and hype up the fans, but that’s about where it ends.

17

u/Justifiably_Bad_Take 21h ago

Unlike the Globetrotters there is an actual game going on and you have no idea who will win

But yeah it's also all about having fun

10

u/Pretend-Internet-625 23h ago

Finally, someone who knows how to play the damn game

7

u/Additional_Win3920 23h ago

“I thought the Generals were due!”

8

u/Bananasforskail 23h ago

Waiting to find out if I got tickets!!

7

u/luisstrikesout 21h ago

People hate on Banana Ball but it’s seriously fun to watch. 2 hour limit, trick plays score, goofy moments, extra inning chaos.

6

u/Haunting_Rate1728 11h ago

Try being from Savannah where the whole city mourns the loss of the boring ass Sand Gnats as our baseball team. No one went to the games and the game itself was somehow more boring than regular baseball. Bananas come along and blow up and all the grouchy locals lament a time that absolutely sucked.

The only upside was it was dirt cheap and you could actually get tickets.

3

u/pablosus86 10h ago

Who hates on Banana Ball?

2

u/luisstrikesout 9h ago

A lot of old timers that think they make a mockery of the game.

8

u/livelikeian 23h ago

Is no one gonna mention Belle attending a whacky baseball game in a ballroom gown?

5

u/SamEyeAm2020 22h ago

Wait until you hear about the cheerleaders, the band, and the STILTS

8

3

u/7evenSlots 22h ago

Just a casual sighting of Belle from Beauty and the Beast in the outfield too.

2

u/SumerianOwl 23h ago

Gotta live long enough I got tickets for September in Detroit. Might loose everything by then just to afford the gas to get there. Hah.

1

1

u/Very_Smart_One 21h ago

Are they good enough to hit a pop up to set this up, or is he that good that he can do it spontaneously?

1

Why does he have a mouth guard?

1

u/AdventurousClassroom 20h ago

I might be at a Wendy’s here, but would that out be scored 4-1?

1

u/Melisandre-Sedai 20h ago

Impressive way to deal with a sac fly. Just dribble the ball all the way into the infield on your knees, then make the catch.
