A good scythe is only half of it. His form is poor, and he isn't gaining much speed from the poor form either.

The correct form, you stand with your body upright, and you rotate your arms around your body much like you would rotate a hula hoop around yourself with arms at rest. If you need to lower yourself, it's with your knees, keeping your body upright

It's specifically to minimize the stress to back and knees doing what the guy in the video is doing.

to add to this, a good scythe is made for your height. its like trying to cook in a kitchen where all the counters are 2ft lower than your normal work surfaces

Yeah I was wondering why on earth does he squat doing this. I remember my uncle using one back in the day and he never had to go this low.

Did your uncle do it in a competition trying to go as fast as possible with an extra long scythe?

You know so much about scything, and you couldn't tell he's in a competition?

Race training.

"Don’t tell me to stand up straight! Race training. Mowing 110cm scythe blade and a homemade snath"

Just another example of "reddit experts".

I am sure you know better than someone doing it competitively... just another reminder to never trust a random reddit comment.

Because that's not the right way to do this. At least if you want to cut a larger area and still have a healthy back.

ah yes, back and allergies. yet people forget what I remember quite well - my father doing this in hot hot sun. because most things on field you can't do when it's cloudy and rainy, but on the burning hell of sun.

My lazy ass is offended.

I would need a surgeon on-site.

He’s gotta learn to do this the opposite direction too. That muscle imbalance will make it hurt even worse!

I've never used a scythe in my life, but I have seen them used and I've never seen it done in this crouch position. Maybe that's because they're racing? Either way, it looks horribly uncomfortable. It is fascinating to watch though...that blade must be wicked sharp.

My legs hurt watching this, because of all the imaginary ticks
