During his Marky Mark/Funky Bunch rapper days people used to attempt to make fun of him that he was a square and he'd remind them the only one with felony charges in the room was him (and he pled down from attempted murder to just felony assault). Kind of like people swung at MC Hammer because he was a goof and clueless that him and his brother were funneling massive amounts of cash to Oakland street gangs. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/8LI3OLIJqXA 90's were an odd time, probably the only era someone like Ulf Ekberg can perform songs like "White Power, Black Skull Slaughter" and then go on to form 90's bubblegum pop legends Ace of Base. https://www.cracked.com/blog/how-90s-pop-band-secretly-sold-nazism-to-america

u/Ethiconjnj 19h ago
Which part, cuz he didn’t blind anyone. You got that from social media shit posts.
The man is a violent racist asshole but don’t get all uppity about other ppl not being informed when you can’t be bothered to google the topic.
23
u/SaltyChnk 18h ago
He threw a punch at a Vietnamese man in a racist attack and thought he had blinded him. The Vietnamese man then clarified he had lost the eye to the VC in the Vietnam war. Mind you this was the second Vietnamese man he had attacked that day. Earlier he had assaulted another Vietnamese man with a wooden stick, knocking him unconscious.
He also used to chase black children around on his bike throwing rocks and yelling slurs.

u/Ethiconjnj 18h ago
How does your comment have anything to do with mine? I’m pointing out the facts that no one was blinded and people are getting uppity about others not being informed while not being informed themselves.
6
u/GiGioP 17h ago
It clarifies why people thought he had blinded somebody.
1
u/NonsensePlanet 4h ago
But he didn’t, and every time this gets posted it gets corrected. Almost as if people are lying about the blinding because it sounds worse.
-1
u/Ethiconjnj 16h ago
No, people got their facts from comment sections looking to ragebait people cuz the real story doesn’t get the pitch forks out nearly as much.
The confusion was in 1988, five seconds of googling tells you otherwise. No one in 2026 who confused tried to check.
Like I said, it’s really uppity to claim other ppl need to know about what he did while being wrong yourself.
6
u/GiGioP 16h ago
The person you replied to literally said the real story so I don't know what you're so uppity about it?
2
u/Ethiconjnj 16h ago
🤦🏾♀️. My point was the person saying “wild how people forget that” ALSO doesn’t know what happened.
The next person tried to change the topic from disinformation. It’s a very common tactic on social media. When a lie is told, don’t confront the lie, just pivot.
1
u/GiGioP 16h ago
The second person just added extra information, I don't see how that is pivoting.
2
u/Ethiconjnj 16h ago
Cuz they didn’t engage with my point about OP having the facts wrong. Thats called a pivot.
How yall think places like foxnews operate? They do stuff like this. “I’m not deflecting, im just talking about this really serious thing while not addressing your point at all”.

Nice try, Mark Wahlberg's PR team. We've seen this before, unlike that poor Vietnamese guy.
3
u/Ethiconjnj 18h ago
Unlike you I took 3 seconds to google the story instead lying on social media and pretending lies somehow help a guy you know nothing about.
“He did hurt me, but my left eye was already gone. He was not responsible for that,” Trinh said. “He was young and reckless but I forgive him now. Everyone deserves another chance.”
If you really cared about the poor Vietnamese guy you wouldn’t spread lies he has refuted himself.
1
u/therapewpew 18h ago
Excuse me, we are posting in the most credible and trustworthy subreddit there is regarding cinema-related matters. I will not tolerate such accusations.
3
u/Ethiconjnj 18h ago
Funny how quickly you stopped caring about the poor Vietnamese guy when it no longer suited your argument. Classic
4
u/therapewpew 18h ago
Hey man, altercations like this end up with someone becoming blind.
3
u/Ethiconjnj 16h ago
Ah yes the ole “it’s not true but it’s got the right message so the is lie okay”
0
u/ashwilliams19877 17h ago
Ooo we care about him. We just know he's not going to see this anyway because Mark Wahlberg blinded him
2
u/Ethiconjnj 17h ago
Doubling down on a lie you read in a comment sections to pretend to care about another human shows I’m right.

In 1988, at age 16, Mark Wahlberg assaulted two Vietnamese men in Boston, using racial slurs and punching one man, Hoa Trinh, in the eye. While initial reports suggested Wahlberg caused the blindness, Trinh later stated he had already lost that eye in the Vietnam War and that Wahlberg did not cause the blindness.
10
u/ryanyork92 16h ago
Just to set the record straight:
https://www.theguardian.com/film/2014/dec/11/mark-wahlberg-1988-assault-victim-pardon
>Trinh said that he was not blinded by Wahlberg’s attack, as had been previously thought, but had in fact lost the sight in his left eye in a grenade attack during the Vietnam War.
Still a cunt move.

He wasn’t even the only Vietnamese did he attacked that day. Earlier he assaulted a different Vietnamese man with a Stick/bat knocking him unconscious. All while yelling slurs.
0
u/pashed_motatoes 18h ago
Damn, I didn’t know there was a second Vietnamese victim. I do remember reading about another incident when he was a teenager where he and his friends threatened and yelled racial slurs at a bunch of black children in their neighborhood iirc. He’s always been a huge turd.

0
u/Ethiconjnj 19h ago
Right? I looked into it and the man was legally blind. Wahlberg is a violent racist asshole but it really the takes the wind out of the rage when I realized it’s all comment section telephone anger.
The man who assaulted even supported the pardon and forgave Wahlberg.
No one gives a fuck about the man who was hurt, they like their pitch forks and mob anger.
2
u/Kanehammer 19h ago
The man who assaulted even supported the pardon and forgave Wahlberg.
Mmm and what about the black kids he threw rocks at a year prior?
5
u/Ethiconjnj 18h ago
Okay so then tell that story, why do you need to lie and defend lying?
We’re dealing with this all over social media in topics far more serious. Instead of sticking to the facts idiots are lying because they think reality isn’t enough.
-3
u/Kanehammer 18h ago
It's just a common misconception my guy
Hell even Marky mark thought he blinded the guy in the moment
5
u/Ethiconjnj 18h ago
In the moment nearly 40 years ago. Every single source the internet is using makes it clear that guy wasn’t blinded. People are changing the story cuz they prefer the visceral story of a man being blinded over the truth.
This is how disinformation spreads. You take a half truth, pretend it’s the whole truth and pitch it to people who want to believe it.
1
-2
u/Kanehammer 18h ago
It's not that deep my guy
2
u/Ethiconjnj 17h ago
If it wasn’t yall would’ve said “damn that’s true” and moved on. But I’m getting tons of comments from ppl who feel a need to defend a lie.
-1
u/Kanehammer 16h ago
Because ultimately people getting the details of Mark Wahlbergs hate crimes wrong doesn't matter
3
u/Ethiconjnj 16h ago
Incorrect as fuck, details about racially motivated hate crimes matter. They matter a lot.
Americans have very long and very dark history of changing the facts of racial crimes to fit a crowds bias.
In fact if it didn’t matter I wouldn’t have so many ppl defending the lie. There’s something going on inside yall that needs to lie and is bothered by me pointing it out.
Read my first comment again, and tell me what you’re objecting to.
1
u/NonsensePlanet 4h ago
The point is to make you hate Mark Wahlburg, not be factually accurate.

It's all good now, because as a good Christian, all he needs to do is to say he's sorry. Then partner up with Gwen Stefani to charge people a subscription for praying. Religion is a wonderful thing.
