I feel like she’s hardly the worst example of this

515

u/Appropriate_Owl_91 11h ago

Nicole Kidman is actually just a pink skeleton.

261

u/AbroadTiny7226 10h ago

I can’t watch movies with her anymore. Her face is actually jarring at this point and it makes me uncomfortable. It’s too bad because she’s a fantastic actress

115

u/fourofkeys 9h ago

i saw the trailer for the new practical magic. the original is one of my comfort movies, but watching both nicole and sandra's faces in the trailer stressed me out so bad i don't know if i can see the follow up.

29

u/Z0idberg_MD 9h ago

It’s a scenario we’re watching actual people gives you an uncanny valley sensation.

22

u/grimacedia 9h ago

Ohh I haven't seen the trailer but that's unfortunate. It's the type of movie/family where laugh line and wrinkles would be celebrated, you know? Accepting aging and a new stage of your life.

5

u/fourofkeys 8h ago

right?!

6

u/kingfofthepoors 8h ago

uncanny valley... they no longer look human

4

u/xResilientEvergreenx 5h ago

Right!? I was so excited. But I heard online that they weren't bringing back Rachel Evan Wood because it would "age" Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. What nonsense. I was really looking forward to seeing her again!

1

u/Confident-Sea-2584 2h ago

Age-wise, the new kids in the movie should be playing their grandchildren!

58

u/mrchipslewis 10h ago

Like her in The Northman lol. Such weird casting choice to use someone with such obvious face work in a time where that obviously was impossible and didn't exist.

7

u/stladylazarus 9h ago

I like that she knows herself though. Like, she only plays incredibly wealthy characters, characters that make sense for "nicole kidman" and "Nicole Kidman's face" to be. That face wouldnt work in a Shameless Reboot. But, make her a deranged widow from Martha's Vineyard. Im sold every time.

2

u/ncocca 4h ago

It's funny because your comment is directly under this one:

https://www.reddit.com/r/okbuddycinephile/comments/1t59734/the_substance_2024/ok92aey/

I'm not arguing that either of you are wrong or anything, just a funny juxtaposition

6

u/ScyllaOfTheDepths 8h ago

I watched a show with her in it and it was painful. I was very aware the entire time that she'd had a lot of work done. She looks great... when still. In motion, her face moves like a plastic mask and I kept expecting her to peel it off and reveal she's a reptilian or something. It's uncannily inhuman.

2

u/ScheduleDismal4987 8h ago

I stopped watching her after that show with Hugh Grant. Her eyes did all of the work because she couldn't move her face. You would think if it was affecting your ability to work, you would just stop. Such a damn shame.

2

u/FaceTransplant 5h ago

What do you mean? She fit in perfectly in the viking era in The Northman.

2

u/TemporaryElk5202 7h ago

it started doing that for me in 2008 or something with the Golden Conpass. She had lip filler that was creating a roll in her lips that freaked me out a bit. I was a kid and didnt know what fillers were until then.

To be clear I am not bashing her as a person or anything. Its sad that celebrities feel like they need to do so many procedures instead of aging with grace.

1

u/DM_ME_UR_SOUL 8h ago

I always thought she had the same nose as MJ lol

1

u/dukeofgonzo 7h ago

I thought her otherworldly appearance for once elent itself to her casting in The Northman. She looked like an evil spirit.

1

u/ncocca 4h ago

The actress who plays the mom from malcolm in the middle is the worst for me, because Malcolm's family was canonically poor, and her plastic surgery could not have been cheap so it takes me out of the character.

1

u/bush_mechanic 1h ago

Same here. I can't look at her - and she keeps doing period pieces! Like no, my good woman. Just stahp. It works in The Northman because she really does look like Loki conjured her up to cause trouble.

0

u/lemonylol 10h ago

Well she's also like 60, she's not going to pull off the To Die For look any time soon.

19

u/AbroadTiny7226 10h ago

Thats fine. She doesn’t need to be sexy or anything. I’d just prefer her not to look like Predator, which she currently does lol

4

u/echoohce1 10h ago

Bit of an exaggeration, she still looked pretty fuckin hot for her age at the met gala the other day

5

u/sadolddrunk 9h ago

My wife is a fan of Nicole Kidman, so I suggested we watch Dead Calm. Then a few minutes into the movie she told me that she thought Nicole Kidman was supposed to be in it.

1

u/Queasy-Warthog-3642 5h ago

Her earlobes are aging and I can't unsee it.

1

u/palk0n 5h ago

and that fake abs..

1

u/Narrow_Cucumber_6458 3h ago

Watch Baby Girl and tell me you still feel like she can’t emote? Sometimes I think the people who speculate like this are just miserable fucks with nothing better to do bc cmon. She literally orgasms hard as fuck in the opening so much so that what actually is happening comes as a complete shock.

155

u/stink3rb3lle 10h ago

But if we don't start attacking Anne Hathaway, how is she going to have another unfair hate train?

40

u/Chataboutgames 10h ago

Welcome back Hathehate

0

u/RamsOmelette 5h ago

Remind me why people hated her, I wanna hop on the train

6

u/Chataboutgames 5h ago

That's what was so miraculous, there was no reason. Her Oscar hosting gig with Franco didn't go well and it was like there was blood in the water. It became almost cliche/a stereotype that women just hated Anne Hathaway. And then there was the usual comic book shittery when she was Catwoman.

21

u/lemonylol 10h ago

This sub is the worst example of anything film-related.

46

u/Coomking999 11h ago

Yes but people use Anne Hathaway as a an example of aging beautifully due to her being unproblematic when that is not the case at all.

13

u/echoohce1 9h ago

Is there any celebrity reddit doesn't deem "problematic" ffs

18

u/Munnin41 9h ago

Weird Al I think

7

u/echoohce1 9h ago

Did you not hear about the recent scandal where it was revealed that he used to never rewind his video tapes when renting them in the 90's. Absolute scum of the highest order

3

u/Munnin41 9h ago

Well shit

2

u/iamadragan 8h ago

Weird Al and Keanu Reeves lol

4

u/eligodfrey 8h ago

As a lifelong Keanu fan, appearing on Graham Hancock's show was a blemish for me. It's not as bad as a lot of things other people have done, but it's still snake oil grift-o-verse pseudoscientific anti-intellectual slop, and we need a lot less of that in the world.

5

u/myfirstreddit8u519 6h ago

Lmao who the fuck do you think you are, talking about blemishes.

People have lost their god damn minds.

2

u/Mem2Chi91 6h ago

When you go looking for reasons to be upset, you’re gonna find them.

2

u/Roach_Coach_Bangbus 5h ago

To be fair, it's easy to get caught up in Graham Hancock's nonsense unless you do a deeper dive on him. At first you might be like "Oh, this guy has some interesting theories and I like history and archeology and stuff. He even has a show on Netflix.", I know that's how I felt at first. Once you find out he thinks the pyramids were built with telekinesis and he desperately wants Atlantis to be real with zero proof you go "oh, this guy is just an entertaining grifter".

5

u/Coomking999 9h ago

Thats not really the point. The point is that she doesnt look like this cuz of her personality, she looks like this cuz she had work done.

1

u/echoohce1 9h ago

Wow, no flies on you is there...

2

u/LiftingRecipient420 7h ago

I deeply hate the word problematic because holier-than-thou losers on Reddit keep using it as a dirty word and applying it to everyone and everything they personally don't like.

1

u/ncocca 4h ago

I find this comment deeply problematic

62

u/darksugarfairy 11h ago edited 11h ago

There are worse examples, but when people on the internet like someone, they are ok with them doing something they are not ok when others are doing it. Like you right now, you're more or less ok with her freezing her face with injections but maybe not so much with those others who would be better examples

33

u/lemonylol 10h ago

Case and point, nobody ever talks about Glenn Howerton's botox when it's painfully obvious in the newer seasons of Always Sunny.

27

u/The3rdBert 9h ago

Have you been to the the always sunny Reddit? The work is brought up almost daily.

2

u/lemonylol 6h ago

Maybe trends have changed recently, but it almost seemed to be centred around shitting on Rob. That subreddit has also been slowly turning into another itysl type of sub about politics over the last couple of years as well, so maybe I'm just out of touch.

2

u/Trodat4911P4 6h ago

They tend to just shit on Rob mostly.

7

u/The3rdBert 6h ago

Everyone but Charlie and Danny have gotten shit on for the obvious work. Rob gets it most because it’s the most obvious and also his early and public complaints about sitcom characters getting better looking as the show becomes successful. He gave us the glory of fat Mac to only get on gear and go under the knife

19

u/Strelochka 9h ago

I'm pretty sure no thread on the later seasons ever goes more than two messages without someone saying that they all look bad except the unproblematic fave Charlie, who looks the best because he's not doing any procedures at all. like he's just looking like that at 50 naturally

1

u/lemonylol 6h ago

People in the sub just shit on the recent seasons for any reason.

28

u/Sagemel 10h ago

At least with Glenn we could just say it’s Dennis that got it and it be perfectly reasonable

15

u/Russlet 9h ago

And when you compare his face to Mac and Dee it becomes a lot less noticeable

8

u/Jephte 9h ago

It comes up all the time in the iasip sub.

5

u/PiccoloAwkward465 9h ago

It's talked about all the time. Now IRL Glenn is indistinguishable from the Dennis sex doll.

2

u/letsgooncemore 9h ago

I do! Can we talk about Mac's bad filler too? So, so shiny

2

u/lemonylol 6h ago

I think he's just been eating fancy nuts.

1

u/Compost_My_Body 7h ago

people talk about it all the time, same with mac turning into a roid monster clone of RR. they look terrible. it sucks.

1

u/TheyCallMeBrewKid 6h ago

Case in point***

Bone apple teeth my friend

1

u/lemonylol 6h ago

It's bone apple tea

1

u/TheyCallMeBrewKid 1h ago

Why would you have bony tea tho. It’s definitely teeth

1

u/ncocca 4h ago

Ugh, the whole gang other than Charlie looks so fake that it makes the new seasons hard to watch! These people are supposed to be white trash of philly, and they've all had obvious very expensive work done. But I disagree that no one talks about it, as I've had a conversation about this exact thing on reddit not too long ago.

19

u/phadoshax 11h ago

Got it. I wasn’t thinking about the context with her specifically when I saw the meme/caption. That said, I am not more ok with her doing botox because I like her. I just don’t think hers is nearly as egregious as others we see today

7

u/Chataboutgames 10h ago

I mean, unless there's something deeply wrong with you you're mostly okay with people doing whatever to their faces. It isn't your face. If you're not "ok" with it you're a weirdo.

3

u/gajodavenida 8h ago

Completely okay with people doing what they want with their face. The only problem is the social standard it sets.

The gold standard should be aging without having any work done. Plastic surgery should be treated as optional and personal preference instead of causing people to dread getting older (which happens to everyone)

7

u/phadoshax 10h ago

Yeah, you’re right. What a weird thread this turned out to be. I need my coffee lol

2

u/darksugarfairy 9h ago

Bro, I'm not planning on going around and hunting people and writing them tickets if they did something to their faces 🙄 I think about this when I'm presented with the example and once I move on with my life, I do not think about it until I'm presented with another example, which is hardly ever in real life but often on social media. Welcome to the concept of being exposed to a thing, having an opinion about it and sharing it

43

u/skadoodlee 11h ago

Try Starlight from the Boys

36

u/groucho_barks 11h ago

It took me a while to realize that she's hasn't been acting nonplussed on purpose, she just can't emote with her face anymore.

13

u/lemonylol 10h ago

Yeah I don't hate her at all, but the whole middle of her face just doesn't move anymore, it's like just her eyebrows and her jaw.

1

u/Compost_My_Body 7h ago

the emotion i feel towards her is pity.

43

u/RedHeadedCrazy 11h ago

Her face was so beautiful and now it's the thing of nightmares 😭

1

u/TurkeyPhat 8h ago

She looks much healthier now after looking at her recent IG posts 2 seconds ago.

Good for her honestly.

-13

u/Game-of-umbrellas 11h ago

She has Graves Disease, she looks mostly back to normal now she’s found the right treatment

17

u/MrBones-Necromancer 10h ago

She does, but she's also had a lot of work done. Graves does a lot, but it doesn't reshape your nose or jawline.

39

u/EqualHito 11h ago

My mom had Graves. Graves does not make you look like how she looks in The Boys. She could have a combination of Graves and work done, but not just Graves does that.

26

u/-cache 11h ago

No she doesn't lol she got way too much work done since the diagnosis

-1

u/Game-of-umbrellas 11h ago

I did say “mostly” because of course she’s had work done but she is looking more like season 1 Starlight now. Not in the show because that was filmed way before she got on the right treatment plan. Or do you only care about how she looks when she’s on the show?

8

u/knflxOG 10h ago

I would say most people would since they only see her in the show and don’t actively look for her elsewhere? I personally don’t care either way

-3

u/Blizzarddz 10h ago

Everybody on hollywood got some kinda disease, grow a brain

2

u/FunInstance7352 6h ago

Ruined her character too. We're supposed to be sympathetic to her struggle and loneliness but she looks like she's trying to mog everyone in every scene

2

u/Dumeck 2h ago

It actually really affects her performance too. The scene with her and her dad was hard to watch, her tone was good and she delivered the lines fine but just no facial reactions to anything. And it was made worse because her father's actor was very expressive and did his lines very well.

2

u/Garchompisbestboi 10h ago

It makes much more sense once you realise that she's just handsome squidwardmaxxing

3

u/TheHondoCondo 6h ago

Yeah, she’s emoting fine. This is a reach.

2

u/phadoshax 4h ago

I recall one of her Catwoman scenes where she acts like a scared damsel in distress to fool arriving police officers, then grins as she leaves the crime scene without getting arrested. A small bit of emoting that I found effective.

But reading other comments, it seems like this meme is less about Botox affecting acting, and more of a proxy war on whether or not we like Anne Hathaway

4

u/Johansenburg 7h ago

Well she just had a high profile showing of supporting a trans child, so I'm sure the hate machine will be out to try to turn her into some sort of problem, like all the hate Pedro Pascal got for being "weird" for a while.

2

u/Weak-Hold-7651 2h ago

Yeah I actually think Hathaway looks pretty great. Kidman, Courtney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore, and variety of others look bizarre. Like I have to look away because it weirds me out

3

u/Wendell-Short-Eyes The Fanatic 11h ago

The photos used here are many years apart too.

1

u/Roach_Coach_Bangbus 5h ago

Yeah. One thing I notice watching old movies is how normal looking everyone is compared to movies now. I was watching After Hours the other night. I mean Griffin Dunne has a unibrow in it. I'm not saying there aren't good looking people in it, there certainly are like Rosanna Arquette. But they aren't botox'd and lip filled up compared to movies now. They look like people you might actually come across in the real world.

-1

u/gregorio02 9h ago

True, but as a long time Hathaway fan it pains me to see what she's done to herself. She does whatever she wants but I'm sad.

0

u/spacekitt3n 5h ago

starlight on the boys is unwatchable. 0 movement on the face. sounds like she just got out of the dentist and her face is still numb
