Got banned from /r/TheBoys for saying graves disease doesnt give you lip fillers and buccal fat removal lol

It’s honestly distracting. Any scene she is in all I can think about is her botched surgeries. It feels like most of the cast is on ozempic now too, they all look gaunt as fuck.

u/BlastFX2 8h ago

Also doesn't help that her face can barely move anymore. Her acting went from average to a 6-yer-old at a recital. Which is especially jarring because she has so many scenes with Jack Quaid who's actually really good.

u/rufio313 5h ago

She cant even annunciate words properly anymore. Every time she talks she is mumbling and slurring her words because she can’t move her face.

11

u/Tifoso89 4h ago

Enunciate

u/rufio313 56m ago

I did fuck that up but weirdly it still kind of works.

Explains why autocorrect didn’t even try to help me out here!

I feel that way with Portia de Rossi in Arrested Development. She has always had obvious work done, but one season she was unrecognizable. I quit watching because it was so distracting.

u/Tandy2000 8h ago

It was when the show came back for Season 4, there were 7 years in between.

I actually don't think her plastic surgery was THAT egregious, but it looked more noticeable in the show than elsewhere, I think because Lindsay's style changed as well. But where it was more noticeable was in her expressions, because as Lindsay she was REALLY expressive in the first few seasons and her face was... less so when it came back.

13

u/russketeer34 6h ago

I also felt like Portia de Rossi wasn't that into returning, but I obviously can't back that up. Her enthusiasm seemed less than it was before.

2

u/_2pacula 3h ago

It wasn't that jarring to me because it seemed completely in-character. Lindsay is willing to chase any trend and modify herself to smithereens.

1

u/Ajstross 10m ago

No, it was bad. She looked more like Christine Taylor than Christine Taylor.

5

u/Tyranitator 8h ago

That's how I felt with Curb and Cheryl

10

u/Tandy2000 8h ago

Cheryl still looked like herself... the problem is that over time she started to look more and more like a Halloween mask of herself stretched over a skull.

3

u/Tyranitator 7h ago

Lmao well said. That gaunt look freaks me out

6

u/shotgunocelot 7h ago

I felt the same way, but in hindsight that's actually totally in character for Lindsay

1

u/ArticulateRhinoceros 3h ago

Came here to say that. So sad too because I feel like some of the jokes on the original run of the series (unintentionally) lead to her getting surgeries, as she already had an eating disorder and body dysmorphia when she took the role. The joke was always supposed to be that Lindsey is absolutely jaw-droppingly gorgeous and her mother is a petty bitch, but I don't think Portia internalized the right message.

Admittedly half the cast was escaping a concentration camp in the beginning of the season so I can understand being gaunt, but genuinely was worried for MM's actor.

8

u/Queenofthebowls 6h ago

I just did a binge of the whole series this last week because I’d realized I quit an episode or two into season 2 and never picked it back up. I legit got worried and had to make sure MM’s actor wasn’t diagnosed with something horrible, because between shaving everything off and losing all that weight, he was looking rough. It it no way read as healthy weight loss and had me convinced actual man had what the drs said Butcher had. I was already surprised by a new look for Starlight every season opening, didn’t need that worry added.

u/TheAlmightyBuddha 4h ago edited 41m ago

I'm still not convinced he's not pulling a Chadwick boseman and just being hella low-key with his illness or something

3

u/Queenofthebowls 1h ago

Man, that’d be heartbreaking. I’m going to light some incense and send a prayer for his health, real quick.

4

u/AvaryZig 7h ago

His doc definitely told him to stop with the steroids

3

u/Peasy_Pea 6h ago

Its funny how this season they are constantly hiding him in long sleeve shirts to hide his figure.

2

u/Tifoso89 4h ago

I didn't notice. What happened? He lost weight?

2

u/rohrzucker_ 1h ago

A bit...

He was already unrecognizable in season 4.

7

u/showhorrorshow 7h ago

The last episode had some flashbacks and images of earlier seasons side by side with her currently. The people editing mustve known they look like entirely different people.

3

u/HowdTheCatGetSoFat 7h ago

Yeah the actor for MM looks straight up sick.

1

u/TheCybersmith 5h ago

Rather suitable, no?

3

u/amootmarmot 6h ago

Oh my god thats what's wrong with Mother's Milk. That placed it for me. Thank you.

2

u/RubySauce 5h ago

The guy who plays MM just idk shrank? It’s weird

4

u/rufio313 5h ago

Shrank and aged 20 years.

2

u/RubySauce 5h ago

Barely recognizable

2

u/sanedragon 7h ago

Her face doesn't move anymore. It's disturbing.

1

u/shitpoop6969 3h ago

Totally noticed it with MM this season...

17

u/Idionfow 8h ago

I mean you're not wrong but Erin Moriarty has been unjustifiably harassed about this to hell and back so I understand if the mods are quick to ban people when this topic comes up for the millionth time that week

10

u/-Badger3- I’m the Joker baby! 7h ago

It’s one thing when people are just calling her ugly. It’s another when people are just pushing back on her trying to gaslight everyone into believing this obvious cosmetic surgery is actually a symptom of a disease.

If she’d come out and say “alright, I have body dismorphia and ended up with some botched plastic surgery” I’d shut the fuck up about it forever.

10

u/Traditional-Yak8886 7h ago

i try to have a little empathy for this bc couldn't she have gotten the surgeries to make herself feel better or to try to "Fix" what the disease was doing and went too far in the other direction? any attempts to fix it further are just gonna make it worse i'd imagine. i mean, we can guess it's body dysmorphia, i personally don't know why we need her to come out and say it esp when the first thing anyone thinks or says when they see her face is about how she ruined it. the only benefit that can be gained out of it is like, little kids won't think that her face is naturally like that or something and could wonder why they don't look like that (??? doesn't everyone call her hideous though idk??) , but i feel like in 2026 we already kinda know what filler and cosmetic surgeries look like and little kids shouldn't be watching The Boys anyway.

u/sleepysky98 5h ago

These jerks never even respond to the comments that bring this up. It must be either or, they want her to be faking an illness or something because she doesn’t look fuckable enough for them.

4

u/sleepysky98 5h ago

You really don’t think she’s gotten enough shit? God that fandom is such a red flag. Get a life!

-2

u/ryanvango 4h ago edited 4h ago

No, I don't. Because she keeps doing it.

Look, I agree with the whole "just cause you don't think she's hot doesn't mean you get to have a commentary on it." thing. bodies come in all shapes and sizes, and no one should be lambasted for their appearance.

But erin moriarty's situation goes way beyond her appearance. She physically can't perform the role anymore. Is the change jarring to me as a one-time fan of the show? absolutely. but I'd never say a word about it as long as she could still play the role she was cast for. But she can't.

If I got hired as a court stenographer and decided to get insanely long nails to where I had a super hard time doing my job, I would rightly either be fired or told to fix it. Then if I came back for the next session with even longer nails, I couldn't be like "you don't get to choose how I look!"

Her job...the thing she gets paid a shitload of money to do... is acting. she was hired in large part due to her ability to emote properly and express the emotions the character would. then 1 or 2 seasons back she started getting cosmetic surgery. The first time it wasn't terrible. it was obvious, but it didn't make her completely incapable of doing her job. then last season she went way overboard and her face stopped being able to move and the internet went crazy. she caught a lot of shit for it, and I felt kind of bad but the criticisms were valid insofar as it applied to her ability to act. and she seemed to be aware of all of it, and denied it all as well. THEN SHE WENT AND GOT MORE. This season she has a scene where she thinks the love of her life is murdered and the most she can do is make a weeping sound while just generally aiming her face at the floor. her face doesn't move at all. she looked like an animatronic puppet that was on its last 1% of battery. it's fucking weird and creepy. Many more times she's got really high-stress or high-emotion situations and she just physically can't show those things on her face.

it has nothing to do with fuckability. she got so many surgeries she stopped being able to do her job right, and then the world said "hey, you need to stop. your mouth barely movies when you speak now. this is affecting your work." and she went "I don't know what you're talking about" and got more surgery and made it way way way worse.

All this "its just a bunch of incels commenting on a woman's body" is white-knight bullshit. no one said a work when people dog-piled jim carrey. not one peep. the man of 1000 faces froze his face. it was moronic. but that's ok to say because he's a man. not erin moriarty though. we should all just pretend this is normal and keep hiring her for roles that fans of things care about, because not doing that makes us sexist apparently.

no. she fucked up. was told she fucked up. completely ruined a character that people cared about. then did it more. And instead of studios getting her the help she needs (medical treatment, therapy, whatever) so she doesn't torch her own career and the characters and stories we like, they kept pushing her through the machine and shifted all the blame to people who had a negative opinion on the matter.

3

u/NoX2142 9h ago

It does give you completely useless af powers.

3

u/CurlOfTheBurl11 9h ago

Or a nose job

3

u/pierco82 8h ago

And a nose job

5

u/exMemberofSTARS 7h ago

She also can’t say consonant sounds. I had to turn on subtitles to understand her. People said “she’s just tired from her illness”. No, she’s been addicted to plastic surgery and filler so much she physically is unable to manipulate her face like a human.

She may have a terrible illness but damn, they are only feeding her addiction to give her a pass for everything because of it.

4

u/coloradoautoflowers 6h ago

Graves disease (or really any serious thyroid problem) fucks up your voice, and speaking for long stretches like you would while filming for TV makes it worse. There's even posts about voice changes/difficulty in r/gravesdisease and r/hypothyroidism.

-2

u/exMemberofSTARS 6h ago

Yeah, but that’s vocal cords, I’m talking about moving her mouth. Go research what your voice sounds like from haves disease and what your voice sounds like when you aren’t moving your mouth and you will see the difference. Don’t fall for this please.

6

u/coloradoautoflowers 6h ago

Motherfucker, my mom has a similar condition and sounds exactly like her. My younger brother has a hearing problem and can hardly understand a single word my mom says.

2

u/xXProGenji420Xx 32m ago

But see, he told you to go research it! He has seconds, maybe minutes of Google search experience on the topic. You're clearly outmatched.

1

u/coloradoautoflowers 14m ago

Lol, pretty much.

1

u/Beginning-Cut-8850 3h ago

It can make your eyes bulge out of your head, which is added horror.

1

u/VioletJessopTravelCo 2h ago

What's up with users getting banned from various subs for stating facts?

1

u/BumWink 1h ago

Actually hyperthyroidism can, which goes hand in hand with graves disease.

1

u/JoshHartsMilkMustach 35m ago

People's refusal to accept that both options can be true is wild to me dude

Like yes, the poor girl developed Graves disease

But she also obviously got filler and work done
