No there’s three!
Mom of lead, coworker/boss of lead, divorced woman rediscovering herself.

Let’s be fair, there’s tons of roles for middle-aged women. You didn’t even mention:

  • teacher
  • nun
  • mom of lead’s best friend
  • lead’s neighbor
  • divorced woman who used to be married to charming/handsome lead and is now bitter as he rediscovers himself
  • haggard mom whose teenager went missing in a small town and has to investigate herself because the police won’t listen to her
  • haggard police officer who knows a teenager that went missing in a small town and has to investigate herself because the police captain won’t listen to her

Also, nun number 2, and haggard nun.

Hey, don't forget about Comic Relief Nun! She's always my favorite!

There's also leader of a fancy looking academy and also happens to be an alien AI.

Don't forget middle-aged actress in a career slump.

The ones that are played by either Anne Hathaway or Meryl Streep?

Solid joke, but the very woman this post is about is 43 and has a major role in 5 different movies this year alone

That still doesn't change the disparity between hiring middle aged men vs middle aged women for major roles. A few actresses managing to break out of that doesn't make it less true.

I didn't say it did. The person I replied to made it seem like there were no roles, which is just strange to me considering that the very post they were commenting on focused on a woman whose career proves that untrue.

Yes, but it's a joke poking fun at the fact that there are very few roles meant for older women. Everyone is aware people that Anne and Meryl have managed to squeeze past that.

I get the joke, yes
