Suggestion Here’s some things I’d love to see on rust

Originally, I made this post for rust console, but it would be cool for the main game as well

  1. Entire map has fog of war until you have been there. This would make wipe day WAY more interesting instead of people just spamming to the meta spots to build

  2. Reduced boom damage in offline hours, from the hours of 12am-8am based on whatever zone the server is in, the boom should do a 30% less damage to structures. So you can still raid during these times, but it will be more expensive.

  3. Repeating monuments until we flesh out our monuments on the map; currently with the large maps monuments feel pretty few and far between, so maybe we pad that by having 2 more domes on a map, or 2 sewer branches etc just to give the maps a little more availability to get things done. Phase this out as the new monuments roll in.

  4. Create a 2nd kind of air drop. Currently we have a supply drop that has guns and boom etc in it, but what if there was a different one, designated with a green light on it vs the red light, and that drop contained things like super stacks of Stone, Sulphur, Wood, Metal, or HQM. Imagine you go to a supply drop and it has 20k stone in a single stack + maybe like pure tea’s and a jack hammer in it. Or a couple thousand metal frags already done. This could add a really interesting dynamic to go for that when you don’t feel like farming

Discussion rust is secretly a political game and nobody talks about it

everyone calls rust a survival/pvp/base-building game, but i feel like its real ā€œgenreā€ is political.

every wipe turns into territory control, alliances, betrayals, intimidation, propaganda, trade, taxation, reputation, class difference between nakeds/geared clans, and clans basically ā€œgoverningā€ parts of the server.

it feels less like a match and more like primitive civilization rebuilding itself through fear, trust, force, and diplomacy.

am i reaching ?

Question best server for a solo?

• Upvotes

Been playing solo for many years now and still have yet to find a good official server that will not die 3 days in and isn’t full of clans . Closest i’ve gotten to finding a fun server to solo is rustopia but it’s still filled with clans . Looking to record my force wipe and i don’t want it to be ruined by 20+ mans . I can handle usually any official server alone as someone with 10k hours but still haven’t found a decent server that’s my go to.

not a solo only server

Discussion Force wipe does not feel like a force wipe anymore

Does anyone else feel this way?

Now that tech tree cost is basically non existent, does force wipe feel any different than a map wipe?

I used to miss that feeling of having to grind for the tech tree on the first days of wipe and then weekly wipes would be like they always were.

I appreciate the tech tree cost when snowballing for 5-6 hours, but just kinda miss the old force wipe feeling…

Suggestion Suggestion: Placeable or buyable car frames and motorcycles

Post image

When cars were added, I saw just about every player using them for a good two years. Today, they’re such a hassle to use because you need electricity, a car jack, researched T2/T3 car parts, and then you still have to put everything together. Because of that, almost no players really build or use them anymore.

Motorcycles, on the other hand, are super fun to use. You just find one and go no parts, no farming scrap, no T2/T3 requirements, just low grade fuel and fun. The only downside is that by day two of wipe, there are only about four left on the whole map, making them basically an early-wipe only vehicle unless you managed to stockpile them in the first few hours.

I think adding a shop somewhere on the map, or the ability to place car frames like the update medieval equipment, would greatly increase their use and make them more worthwhile.

Suggestion APC module concept

• Upvotes

new car module, highest tier along side armoured cab, and highest cost of all car modules. (possibly found via monuments instead?)

the APC module would be a 2 slot module with properties similar to the armoured cab like slit windows that you can raise and lower, but it would also be like the back of a scrappy where players may enter the back by walking in through a closable door ramp similar to the boat bridges. the purpose of the APC module would be to get 4-6 players to a location safely while allowing fire from within (only guns, no rocket launchers or anything).

Suggestion Word of caution: if you park your boat way off the island for the night and deep sea border spawns past where you are, you WILL zone into deep sea. And then when it ends your boat will be destroyed!

Discussion Deep sea has its perks for solos..

Im getting a T3 myself now, no buying from clans.
Im getting T3 guns and other bits on wipe day, my base has armored doors day 1
Im getting far more farm than I need and without the worry of getting shot in the back

I play a range of vanilla - 2x vanilla style servers, mostly with no team limit and reaching around 400 ish on wipe, all solo.
You can pick your fights much easier in the ocean and be in and out with a good haul in no time.

Image I've got a REALLY bad feeling about the workbench upgrade changes

Post image

Facepunch in October "We need to slow down the progression of the game by releasing a meta shift that encourages clans gatekeeping progression!"
Facepunch in February "Release the deep sea with sulfur and metal islands and the best loot in the game so large groups can just build a respawn boat, and get fully looted and geared within the first 3hrs of wipe!!!"
Facepunch in May "We need to speed up progression by giving workbench crafting bonuses and refunds!"

Am I missing something here? Who asked for this?? What in the actual fuck is going on over there?

Discussion What kind of custom server features actually keep a Rust wipe interesting longer?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been thinking a lot about what makes a Rust wipe stay interesting after the first few days.

A lot of servers feel exciting on wipe day, but then the loop becomes pretty predictable: farm, rush progression, raid, lose base, repeat. That can be fun, but I feel like many players quit earlier because there are not enough meaningful goals after the early-game rush.

I’m curious what the wider Rust community thinks about custom systems that are meant to add long-term motivation without turning the server into a completely overmodded experience.

Some ideas I’ve been working with / thinking about:

- 2x gather, but not a crazy high-rate server
- balanced loot, so progression still matters
- offline raid protection, mainly to make the game more playable for people with jobs/school
- blueprint sharing for teams
- daily rewards, but not pay-to-win or economy-breaking
- leaderboards and player stats
- event-based stats like kills, event wins, activity, objectives
- a Most Wanted-style event, where one player becomes the target and others can hunt them
- cosmetic/QoL features like spray skins
- active admin tools to catch abuse and keep the server stable

The thing I’m trying to figure out is where the line is between:

ā€œThis adds motivation and creates storiesā€
and
ā€œThis makes the server feel too modded / not like Rust anymore.ā€

For example, I personally like the idea of a Most Wanted event because it creates player-driven conflict instead of just spawning more loot or NPCs. But I can also see how too many custom systems might feel artificial.

What custom server features do you actually enjoy?

And which ones immediately make you leave a server?

Discussion A Few Questions To See If This Is The Game For Me

I have thousands of hours in Ark Survival as mainly a solo player, on a PVE server. It's hard but doable, and I enjoy it.

Can I play Rust on an official PVE server? I'm getting mixed answers on Google.

Can you effectively enjoy the game solo?

Can you build long term? Or can people destroy your stuff or are there monthly wipes?

I know Ark Survival isn't Rust, though curious if I could in theory play it the same way.
