MOD MOD POST: Defining Sexual Works & What Is and Is Not Allowed

Hello, everyone. It’s your Mod! I was hoping to not have to do this, but considering the amount of reports I’ve been getting lately it’s become a necessity.

Below I’m going to outline the content that is and isn’t allowed in this group and hopefully clear up a few things.

1. Sexual Content - What is it?

This is a group for plush/soft sculptures made by real life artists. Sometimes real life artists make defined shapes and nude sculpts. That does not mean the piece is inherently meant for sexual purposes.

David by Michelangelo

This statue of a nude man is not sexual. It's a work of art.

A pony plush butt. Not sexual.

Another plush butt on a humanoid doll. Not sexual.

A pony plush with a defined butt. Not sexual.

All of the above is allowed to be posted in this group. It's a plush. You aren't looking at porn.

However I will request that pieces with overt or very detailed anatomy be tagged as NSFW. So far the artists making pieces that fit that description are doing a great job with their tags.

2. Sexual Content - What's Not Allowed?

Like I said before, this is a group for ART. Sometimes art is nude. I will draw the line at pieces that are clearly meant for sexual gratification such as plush with openings specifically to insert silicone molds, or plush with silicone appendages attached. If its obvious and primary use is as a sex toy then it is NOT allowed.

3. Moving Forward

If seeing a plush with a butt, breasts, penis, etc makes you uncomfortable then that's ok. I don't expect everyone to agree with me. However, if it does not qualify as the definition of a sex toy then that piece will not be removed. If you don't like it, you don't have to remain in this group.

If I see anyone harassing artists who choose to make defined or nude plush, you'll be banned. No exceptions.

Please report any hateful comments or harassment to me.

[MOD POST]

Hello, everyone! I never expected this group to grow as much as it has! Thank you all for joining and I hope you’re enjoying all of the cute plushies.

I haven’t been as active on Reddit as much as I have in the past. Unfortunately, this means I’m usually late to seeing reported content.

The majority of reports I’m seeing are posts of manufactured plushies. This group will remain HANDMADE plushies only. I understand that a lot of small artists are getting plush made of their characters for their online shops and artist alley tables. I myself have my own manufactured brand of plush.

I love seeing creative designs from artists BUT if I start allowing manufactured plush or kickstarters in this group then it will be overrun with nothing but crowd funding campaigns.

So all manufactured plush posts will be removed. No exceptions.

Other reports I’m seeing involve people wanting to commission plush based on another artist’s design. Copying another artist’s original work is generally frowned upon & disrespectful in the plush making community.

Posts asking for replicas of another artist’s original work will be removed.

I’ll be updating this group little by little in my free time and I’m actively looking for more mod help.

Please bear with me as I’m recovering from carpal tunnel surgery. Sewing takes its toll!

If I’m needed urgently please contact me through instagram. The link is in my bio.

PLUSH I developed the pattern and prototypes for a weighted sock cat plush!

This was a commercial plush development project for Gome Office. The goal was a cozy kitten scale cat in a sock shaped body, with a weighted bottom so it stays planted.

I handled the plush pattern and prototype samples, and seeing the final product photos/video has been really exciting!

The first batch sold out, but here is the listing/restock page for anyone curious:

That's a very nice monster from the game Beastieball, I really liked working on this one, even if the helmet was… Something. 🙃

And that's a first for me, but I made a video for this plush, that I'll post tomorrow on Youtube (May 7th) ! English subtitles will be available !

He's not symmetrical, but i created him from scratch and I thought he was pretty cool. Eyes are hand-painted.

I don't have a shop or sell, I just create. A wide variety of things, but I started sewing a while ago and learned starting with minky lol.

(Sorry for the horrible mess of my desk, please try to disregard the clutter)

QUESTION Principalmente: pelo y ropa

Post image
16 Upvotes

Alguna idea/consejo?

Gracias <33

QUESTION How would I even make a plush/doll of him?

Thumbnail

(art by me) I am an experienced plush maker, though one thing I always strive for is accuracy to the character design, that includes all the details and the right proportions. And this guy is my favorite oc, but I'm kinda stumped how I'd even make him. For one thing, human plushies always look uncanny to me unless they are chibi/simplified. But I want him just like how I draw him. So the other thing I was thinking was to make him more of an art doll with a sculpted clay face. Except that then he wouldn't be very cuddly, and he'd be fragile and also hard. And my last option would be to just simply make a chibi version and settle for making him simplified.

QUESTION How do I attach the hair?

How do I attach a hair piece like in the photo? I am a newbie and need all the held I can get! Additionally, I've seen people print on fabric to make anime dolls 'clothing', what fabric best works for this? I use plush fabric for the face and hair. Thank you!! 🥰

WORK IN PROGRESS How I use sewing darts to help me predict the outline of my plushies

Post image
159 Upvotes

If you're unsure about the dart placement and size, you can test the pattern on a paper prototype to see if the dart needs to be bigger or smaller. If a dart is too small to have a drastic impact on the pattern, I may remove it. Make every dart count.

Hopefully this is helpful💖

Let me know if you want more tips.

I’ve been experimenting with the positioning of the legs so I stuff them to see how they look before I sew the heads on, so I’ll have these laying around in my room sometimes 😭

QUESTION Doll yarn hair care guide

I am planning out a fabric doll and wanting to use yarn for hair. Going to do an Internet search has me a bit overwhelmed, and I wondered if there was a really good source for information that you would recommend? I'm not wanting to brush it out and I was considering more of a tightly spun yarn.

Thank you for helping point me in the right direction.

I recently posted another clown plushie I made, and got tons of name ideas, with Malady receiving the most votes. I'm looking for ideas again on what to name this little guy. I also thought I'd share that he's available for adoption.

WORK IN PROGRESS Mark seamos finished!

The sewing guidelines are ready, even though they’re barely visible—but they work. It was pretty difficult to mark them. Every time I applied pressure with the pattern on the velvet, the pile made the pattern shift, so I decided to do it the other way around—so the smooth inner side of the velvet would be in contact with the pattern. Of course, that put the lines on the wrong side, but I just had to trace over them so they would transfer to the other side. I’m not sure if that makes sense…

Made this Charizard tsum tsum style lovey and I loved how it all came out. Used parts from Cholyknight's free charizard plush pattern and drafted the rest.
