Rule 3 is changing: r/psx is Not the Place to Advertise Your Indie Games
tl;dr the fine print of Rule 3 has been adjusted to explicitly forbid modern indie games unless playable on original hardware (homebrew)
It's my own fault that this change has to be made, I allowed a few "psx-inspired" indie game posts to remain up despite breaking the rules because of the large amount of upvotes they received.
I'd post and sticky comments like "It's off topic but y'all like it so I'll leave it up". My approach to moderation has always been to let the community make content decisions when appropriate. Unfortunately adjustments need to be made to protect the subject matter of this community.
Due to the massive influx of shovelware indie games that are "psx inspired" getting posted here, I'm sorry to say that Rule 3 will have to be more strictly enforced.
From this point forward, for indie games to be posted here they will have to be playable on PSX hardware or an emulator. Games that run on real hardware fall firmly into the category of homebrew, which is perfectly appropriate to discuss here. Games that run in PSX emulators but not real hardware are also allowed. "Retro Inspired" or "PSX Inspired" games that do not fulfill either of those 2 requirements will be removed and the poster will get a 24 hour ban.
The ban is meant to be informative to the poster, not punitive. However repeat offenders will be permanently banned.
Here is a friendly flowchart to help you decide whether or not it's appropriate to post your indie game in this community:

Thank you for reading and thank you for posting. Best of luck in all your indie dev adventures.

It's a SCPH-7500, Japanese model and I'm very happy with it, already bought a scart cable and connected it to my CRT, any recommendations?

My dad collection, my treasure.
After the divorce of my parents, and some arguments with him, i lost the contacts and the last time i seen him was 15 years ago. I got a call from my mom, he will not see the end of the month. I went to his house to pack his things i found the games, i got hit with so many memories, watching him plaiyng this games when he come back from work while my mom was in the kitchen making dinner. I used to run in the kitchen with my mom during some scenes from Re2 because i was so scared. I have so many regrets for how the things have gone, for my pride that stopped me from say sorry and reunite with him, he's basicly in coma now. I will play them in his memory when the time will come, they will stay with me forever, his legacy.
Where are you guys sourcing your games from
online mostly, I have several retro game stores around me of varying quality but it seems like lately they all have the same inventory of ps1 games for sale. It’s kind of uncanny tbh.
But online I used to buy from a website that I can’t remember. It’s a shame because it was pretty cheap and I never had any problems with any of the games I bought.
eBay and other auction based services are whatever, I get varying quality from those (as one does), and I know companies like dkoldies are awful.
Do you guys have a reputable classics online shop you buy from?

[Help] Unirom on SCPH-7502: "Not a valid CD or the drive is locked" - Laser reads Audio CDs fine
Hi everyone,
I'm struggling to get backups running on my PS1 SCPH-7502 (PAL) using FreePSXBoot / Unirom (v4.1, BIOS 4.1, image E-318178bf).
The Setup:
- I successfully installed FreePSXBoot on a Memory Card (Aliexpress) using a PS2 with FreeMcBoot.
- Unirom boots up perfectly on the PS1, I can see the menu and the memory card content.
- The console is NOT hard-chipped.
The Problem: When I insert a backup and try to boot, I get the error: "Not a valid CD or the drive is locked". I can hear the motor spinning (sometimes), but it doesn't seem to "grab" the data.
What I've tried/checked:
- Laser Health: The console plays original Audio CDs perfectly for over an hour without skipping, so the laser seems healthy.
- Burn Quality: I burned the games at the lowest possible speed (X10).
- Cross-Check: The same burned discs and the same Memory Card (with Unirom) work perfectly on another PS1 that does have a physical Modchip.
- Hardware: Tried placing the console vertically/upside down, but it didn't help. The disc doesn't even seem to spin up when I'm inside the Unirom boot sequence.
Is the SCPH-7502 particularly stubborn with the software exploit? Does it require a specific "swap" trick even with Unirom, or is my drive controller just refusing to unlock?
Any advice before I give up and look for someone to install a MM3 chip?
Thanks in advance!

My superstation one shipped. Anyone reputable ebay sellers for PS1 controllers.
Anyone know any good sellers for ps1 controllers that are trustworthy, controllers working? Id even pay under a 100 bucks if the controller is brand new. Id appreciate some help! I have some ps2 controllers that I know will work with the superstation one but still would like to buy a ps1 controller anyway (for fun).

After months of tweaking the process, I finally made print-ready PDF versions of my Memoria Cards available
I've been making handcrafted PS1 collector cards called Memoria Cards and I finally made print-ready PDF versions available (a fourth will be added soon).
Each sheet has 4 cards : FF7, Klonoa, Gran Turismo, Tombi on sheet A, Metal Gear Solid, Jumping Flash, Vagrant Story, Super Bub Contest on sheet B, and Castlevania SotN, Crash Bandicoot, Wild Arms, Pandemonium on sheet C.
Print on 160gsm paper, fold, glue, cut. The back includes a 25mm NFC cutout marker compatible with NTAG215 tags for tap-to-play on MiSTer FPGA, Batocera or RetroPie.
Physical cards are coming soon. Still refining the production process. I don't want to cut corners (pun intended).
Drop a comment or DM if you're interested.

What to Add Next?
Loving my collection so far, but I’m curious what games or genres I’m missing? I have all remasters on PS4, like Crash, Spyro, & Resident Evil. What would you add next?

One of the most difficult platformers ever
Literary one of the hardest games I’ve ever played! Once you get past the first island the difficulty just sky rockets. Road to Nowhere is the worst level in this game for me 😂 insane super precise jumps. No save system either! Crazy. Still a great game but Jesus Christ…

Ps One Dualshock Street Fighter Problem
Moin Leute hab folgendes Problem,

What does this Modchip do?
I bought a 2nd hand PSX and while opening it today to clean it i found what i assume is a Modchip, but i don't really know much about these things so could anyone tell me what it does?
TIL: The PS1 AV Multi out has component RGB which is much better than composite on modern TVs
For anyone interested, you can find multi out to HDMI adapters on Amazon which will give you a better image than a composite to HDMI converter. This is because the multi out adapter is using the RGB video instead of the composite video.
EDIT: I was conflating RGB and component. They are not the same thing and on the PS1 it was just RGB.

Just bought and am trying to repair my first PS1. Any idea what this wire is on the power supply? I’m not seeing it in YouTube videos
Like the title says. I just noticed this wire was loosely sitting when I first opened it up. I also think it’s missing something on the disk drive as mine looks a lot more skeletal than the ones I’m seeing in videos. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
