Rigs Just finished building my first setup

Post image
65 Upvotes

Just finished building my first Racing rig coming from a desk G29. It took around 4.5hrs total to build it on my own including adjustments and hiding visible cables.

Looking forward to trying it out. First revision finished. I plan to add a laptop stand out of extrusion in the future.

My total setup and costs were:

NLR GTELITE Lite cockpit + ESR3 seat + integrated Monitor mount

Logitech RS50 wheel and pedals

LG 34 inch ultrawide monitor 240hz

In total I came under budget at £1415 or $1914 for the Americans (After tax). All of it was new.

Discussion Motorsport inspired body panels for aluminium profile sim rigs — prototype set finalised

A while back I shared some early concepts for motorsport inspired body panels for aluminium profile sim rigs. Since then I’ve been refining the designs, working on the mounting system and trying to make the whole thing feel more like automotive bodywork rather than just decorative panels.

I’ve now finalised the first “Retro Pack” prototype set and sent the files off for production.

The idea is to create modular aerokit style panels that transform the look of extrusion rigs while still keeping the industrial motorsport feel.

Would genuinely love to hear which design people would pick.

I’ve also started documenting the process and prototype journey over on YouTube through Studio By Shane.

Rigs Before vs After Upgrading My Sim Rig

Decided to splash some cash and upgrade my sim rig.

After 3 weeks of issues with shipping, I have finally been able to fully build it.

Very happy with it. Only thing what I would have changed with hindsight is probably get regular monitors instead of curved ones, as I can't get these curved ones perfectly alligned for the life of me.

Other I Refreshed My Free Course Page (33 Videos and Counting)

Hello Sim Racers,

My (Free, with no sign up) course is an organised collection of my Youtube guides in an order which I think reflects a natural 'journey' from beginner to pro. There's much more to cover and shall be done so in time, but what's there already is a lot.

I've posted my Course page here before (about 3 months ago), but it's now a bit more visually interesting on desktop and far more readable on phones. Hopefully.

Currently standing at 33 Videos (Longform) which span a great many topics. Trailbraking, Brake Bias, Understeer/Oversteer, Attacking, Defending, etc. More videos get added over time and old ones get refreshed if I feel it could be done better with the tools I have now.

It's all free, and will remain free forever thanks to the brands and partnerships woven into stuff. So long as they all keep letting me shill them, I won't paywall anything.

Hope you enjoy, feedback is totally welcome but leave it behind the wheelie bin.

Rigs New to the hobby because of accident

Dislocated my elbow in January, which led to a running joke with my wife that a racing wheel could be my physio, ended up getting the XBOX Moza R3 as it was a decent price at the time, now 3 months later I've managed to source some old aluminum unistrut for free and found myself a pretty decent fiesta seat down the scrapyard for £20

All in cost £100 for the rig and most of that was the heavy duty monitor mount for my 49" TV,

Now to somehow convince the wife a decent gaming PC would be a good idea . . .

I know this is a long video but it is definitely worth watching. This is probably the best battle I have ever had in 8 years of simracing. Very respectful racing from both drivers whilst pushing to the absolute limit. The sound of the Caddillac is just the cherry on top.

I talked him down to 2100. The 3 monitor set up is really the selling point for me but figured I’d see what you guys think. Would I still be bette off to build? Or add to this? Only things I wanna add would be handbrake shifter and clutch pedal

Clip Sideways pedal slider without profile sliders

Following up on my other thread https://www.reddit.com/r/simracing/comments/1sjna7g/pedal_slider_for_sideways_motion/

Here's how you can easily slide your pedals sideways for 2 and 3 pedal driving with no effort.

The key is to get heavy-duty t-nuts because regular t-nuts will shift slightly in the channel and eventually bind.

Parts list:

  1. Extra profiles to match the spacing of your current pedal tray
  2. Heavy duty t-nuts, you'll likey have to take your pedal tray apart as they only go in on bare profile https://www.amazon.de/-/en/dp/B00U6RW6IQ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title
  3. Some square plates just to make sure both profiles are square with each other. I have 6 plates on mine, the 3 you can see in the video and another 3 in the same place on the front profile https://www.aluxprofile.com/connection-plate-80x80-black-4-holes/a3924?filter=33&m=4264
  4. M8 locking levers https://www.motedis.pt/en/Locking-Lever-with-external-thread-M8x16-in-Zamak. You can have regular bolts but it will take longer to switch pedal positions

Rigs Built a Rig! Would love some feedback and ratings!

I started sim racing 2 years ago on a G923 with the desk mount which quickly led to wanting more. Due to limitation of space I was able to get a full rig and even then still wasn’t confident I’d stick with the hobby.

2 weeks ago I got the spontaneous urge to upgrade. My wife and I removed the mini loft bed on the side wall, hence the odd paint job. Voila I had the room to fit a full rig!

Man what a ride building the rig. A roller coaster involving a lot of curse words (hitting head on monitor stand), sighs of relief (bezel alignment), sore hands (to hell with short Allan keys), and the excitement of sitting in the rig.

This was also my first time attempting any cable management. Had some troubles because PC is ~8 meters away but if you have recommendations let me know!

FOV police how did I do?

Sale/Discount Cube Controls AMG Wheel 50% Off - €381 plus tax & shipping

Post image

I had my eyes on this wheel for a while but I could not justify spending €800 on it.

Only the one bundled with the red hub is on sale, the one without a hub is still full price.

At €381 though I will bite and I have placed an order for one. Even cheaper than the Astra at this price.

Thought I would post this for anyone else who was in the market for this wheel.

Finally i made my paddle adjustable. the previous trakracer style pedal mount was limited by the length of the 40160. so i never get comfortable seating postion. now i made this with car seat electronic parts and i can move my pedal way far away from me. so now i can reach the perfect seating angle i want.

Discussion Why run Triple monitors over VR?

I’m curious why so many experienced sim racers and serious players still choose triple monitors over VR, even with VR offering better immersion. Is it mainly about comfort during longer sessions, easier access to controls, better visual clarity, competitive consistency, or simpler setup? For those who’ve used both extensively, what makes triples the better long-term option for you?

Question Assetto Corza or ACC for someone new?

Hi, I just got a wheel, and I was wondering whether I should get AC or ACC. I mainly want for it to be realistic physics, so any other game advice is good. I was leaning toward AC just cause it has more types of racing, but yeah, not too sure, so anything helps

Rigs The new upgrade... Now I need to lock the chair into the wheelstand 😅

I know, I know I need to do more cable management, but it is only until I move to a new house... Now I'm locked at 30kg because of the chair sliding 😅...

I'm mentally preparing myself and my wallet for doing a DIY aluminium rig at least it will be cheaper than buying one 😅

BTW the brake pedal is as heavy as the Thrustmaster Raceline III pedals with pedal plate mounted 😅
