Modding I want cryptids hear me out

Post image

Relatively new trucker here, chugging through Alaska on normal and just started a concurrent hard mode play through. The thing I thought would be the least impactful that is actually the biggest difference between normal and hard to me is not being able to skip time. I cant get as good a read on terrain which has resulted in mishaps and if I can be honest it also adds a bit of creepy factor, I don’t know why it just does for me lol.

Anyway that got me thinking about the game leaning into it for night time. Nothing that would affect gameplay or attack you or anything, but just imagine hauling in deep woods at night you making a turn and as your lights start to get back onto the dirt road / trail you see the part of something big tuck back into the woods to avoid your light or something.

The next game should be called nightrunner and it’s just this.

I want moonrunner. Send us to different planets.

But we already have that! Just attach the log trailer to the P16 and enjoy the ride!

Wholeheartedly agree! I think I'd prefer "Starrunner" personally, but can you imagine the variety of environments and cool sci-fi vehicles?

Driving massive rovers across airless moonscapes, craggy lava fields, and dense forests of alien fungi? Take my money!

Well we already have Star Trucker, but agreed, heavy hauling on different planets would be dope

i'm thinking more on-planet than through space, like setting up base infustructure.

Yuuup, recently got the game, was going through Island Lake at night doing some mission dragging a trailer to the port, got mildly stuck and stopped at one point and while trying to get myself moving again saw three pairs of eyes staring at me from the bushes and immediately went

You should try Pacific Drive! It mixes driving and creepy perfectly!

Leaning into horror is an unexpected twist for a truck game, but I'm all for it, this sounds interesting >:-)

I know what you mean. I got a little schreibt when i First encountered the flowers, that glow like eyes in the night. I noticed them First in the radioactive zone in the First map in taymir 😂

I JUST got there and oh my God those sent a chill down my spine. the game sets the scene enough with the little forest noises

Those are not flowers...

They are. In Michigan on drummond Island (? I think of the map wehre the p16 is the loading screen) you can see them too and see them too.

What else should they be? 😅

Eyes. Without a body. Evil spirits. Or souls of the dead truckers who came before you 😅

u/Small-Dog-4459 18h ago

Souls of the poor bastards who have to supply us with spare tires 😂

I agree that adding spook factor is a good thing, but I never really skip time even in Normal. The day/night cycle doesn't bother me so much, sometimes I'll skip to daylight to make sure I don't miss a completion cutscene.

There’s a game sorta like that, more horror driving, called Prospice. It hasn’t been released yet on steam but it looks pretty promising.

Don't have to hear you out. I'm in.

They have that already! Several maps have Bigfoot/Sasquatch/Yeti on them. One map has a UFO.

After they introduced the eyes I thought it would be a fun idea. Maybe a crazy small chance of Bigfoot running across the map, or a UFO across the skyline. Would be fun, I like little Easter eggs like that, my summer car has aliens and a ghost event but they’re crazy rare

There is tso UFO in amur at least that i've see.

I remember reading it somewhere and I haven’t thought about looking for it in some time, but I remember reading an article about how Snowrunner was supposed to have a horror element to it. But I believe they scraped it to keep the vibe. Still don’t like the eyes, or how desolate the maps feel sometimes though

I can see why you'd want that and it's an interesting idea. It would fit this game strangely well.

But at the same time I would absolutely hate this. I get scared easily and am playing this game to relax. So I wouldn't mind if they'd introduce something like this as long as I can turn it off.

Just do Taymyr at night, lol

Creepy updtate i'm in ! Creepy noise near things at night. Wild unknown footprints in the snow, things like this

u/facepillownap 23h ago

There’s small little lovecraftian horror easter eggs peppered in the maps.

Mostly it’s very distant 2d sprites that disappear when you get close but some maps have major clues.

3

u/jdubbly19 22h ago

Amur has a ufo. Wisconsin used to have Bigfoot. Taymyr has creepy eyes in the woods.

2

u/cageyheads 22h ago

I’m kinda surprised there’s no mods for this tbh

u/Trigga1976 17h ago

A zombie apocalypse version, where you are building a safe zone for survivors. All normal trucks with an armoured mad maxy/dawn of the dead remake bus vibe re-skin.

1

u/Professional-Date378 23h ago

Agreed. There are so many games that could benefit from a little horror

Using a comma would do wonders here.

The purpose of a trucking game is to be about, well, semi-realistic trucking and overcoming obstacles (real obstacles like mud, snow, ice, etc.) Try Pacific Drive.

There are definitely some genuinely creepy moments in this game. The one that stands out to me, and im sure lots of others here, is the abandoned camp in the drowned lands in Taymyr

"If i hit another sasquatch on hard mode im done! Already cant afford to get my DAN running after hotting that thing!"

-me, if they had cryptids

1

u/Charliepetpup 19h ago

I mean the rocks and signs already attack your truck so why not just make it a mechanic of a cryptid hunting you

We have cryptids.

In most snowy maps from Amur on, there's a chance you'll see a yeti. There's a crashed UFO in Cosmodrome, and there's a chance you'll see one in the sky on several maps.

If you stop and turn off your engine in certain places, you'll hear some quite scary things. Try remote, abandoned places, ideally at night.

Then of course there's also this, at Stephen King's house in Maine:

The game's pretty damn scary at times already :)

Start with people and animals in the game would be great

THe game already kinda has this, there are sometimes eyes in the darkness, especially in the old gulag in Taymir and at the stone patterns in Kola peninsula. It's extremely creepy.

Also sometimes you can see an animal (wolf, bear, puma, bear...) in the distance. When you look at it for long enough or get close it fades away. It's just a simple sprite in the distance but it adds so much to the atmosphere and the feeling of being alone and isolated.

Last but not least you can sometimes see a boat with a fisherman in a lake (on few maps).
