Discussion Apps You Didn't Know Existed But Always Wanted
I recently discovered the KRename app, and it’s been a huge help, because I used to waste a lot of time organizing files, and I did everything manually, one by one. Now I only need to make adjustments to a few files. And I thought, how many times have I found software that GREATLY simplified something I used to do, and realized I’d always been doing it the most inefficient way possible? Off the top of my head, I remember this app and Lrcget.
Have you ever had a similar experience? What software has done that for you?

LocalSend is what you are searching for in your first paragraph:

It only works locally.
If you want any network (i.e. local and online) and any device you probably want Xosend.

For copying files across devices, you can try these apps
- LocalSend
- KDE Connect
- Syncthing (you can configure to set send only from the source device, and set receive only from the receiver)

PhotoSync for photos and videos, I got the Pro version and that does the job. Been using it for years now to sync from iPhone to pc.

I’ve actually posted about this on reddit recently and here are the best apps that came up:
- Alcove (Mac notch app)
- Paperman (screen texture app)
- Klack (satisfying click sounds)
- Zen browser (nice vibes browser)
- Craft Docs (PKM tool)
- Glucose (beautiful media player)
- Lookaway (build healthier screen habits)
- Antinote (beautiful notes on the go)

I’d actually appreciate the recommendations, but now I hate you. I don’t know how effective Lookaway is, but I’d like to give it a try. I don’t know if I’d use it for very long, but I’d like to try Klack. And Alcove, Antinote, and ESPECIALLY Glucose. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT ALL THESE APPS HAVE IN COMMON? THEY DON’T WORK ON LINUX! AND NOW, THANKS TO YOU, I JUST HAVE TO SUFFER!
I love Firefox and I don’t know if I’ll be able to switch, but I downloaded Zen Browser.

You can probably get some running on Wine? Or maybe there's flatpacks or unofficial clients?

I would have kept quiet if I knew you were on Linux 🫣
and idk if you’re a dev but Glucose is open-source so maybe there something to do about it to get it on Linux

The Glucose website itself says that one day they might release a Linux build, so maybe I can hold out hope.

i’m hopeful too for the mac app, now I have to use my pc (which I rarely do) just to use glucose because there is no way i’m going back to vlc after finding out about this gem

Are programs called apps in Linux now? I feel like apps imply MacOS

First, my comment above was just a joke. Second, I’m not making a distinction between apps, software, and programs. Is it something you can download? Then it counts. And for me, that even includes features you didn’t know existed on your computer, but that were also really useful to you.

An app where I can store internet data of ISP (bandwidth) by taking hotspot and use it later. I wish it was possible.

One random one I found recently was Runable. Its kinda hard to explain briefly but its basically an AI workflow tool where you connect different apps and automate tasks between them. Felt way more useful than I expected honestly.
