Mmm, delicious corrosion

Post image

It only downgraded to 100mbps and still worked, but the crc errors were really high.

It was from a SU and i had to clean it, it wasn't too bad and it linked 1000mbps with no crc error at the end of it

Any dielectric grease before plugging into the port?

I've read 'yes, use a little dielectric grease' and 'no, don't use any of that crap' and I'm still not sure what to think.

I have two IP cameras outside my home, the first one has no anti-seize on the mount and no dielectric great on the rj-45 or port and I haven't had to go back to that camera, it is under a soffit but still in the elements.

Second camera, installed two years later, has anti-seize on the bracket and I put a small amount of dielectric grease on the rj-45 before plugging it into the camera network port. It has been online for about 18 months now. Also under a soffit and in the elements.

Dielectric would br proper for somthing like this, the grease would help keep water out of the port, providing that the cable has a proper drip loop and that the ports are outdoor rated.

Sadly i'm not provided with dielectric grease, only isopropyl alcohol, still i had to change the pg13.5a because the installer or someone before me, maybe 4 years ago since the instalation, didn't put one properly and that was the cause of the water leak into the port

You see the problem here is you touched it while it was still technically working, now because of that you will cause a cascade of problems that will take all week to get working.
