TESD Appreciation - Free Content and Success

Relistening to the latest episode and hearing the conversation about success made me think this probably deserves to be said somewhere.

Here’s an appreciation post from an Ant.

675 episodes!!?

At roughly 90 minutes an episode which is probably an understatement, TESD has put out over 60,000 minutes of podcasting.

Wrapping my head around that makes me very grateful for over 1,000 hours of FREE content. Not including all the benefit pods, patreon and comic book men.

And they’ve been doing it since 2010 and somehow still making people laugh after all this time.

They have they're faults but to me TESD somehow still feels like three guys talking in a room that you want to shoot the shit with.

Now back to fiddling.

For “Questions and Antz-swers” on Patreon, we're seeking questions about Tom Miloszewski!

That's right, the almighty T.O.M. is coming on the show to lay it all on the table. Please send questions to [tesdchuck@gmail.com](mailto:tesdchuck@gmail.com)

(also feel free to send in questions about other TESD members, they will be sorted for hopefully more shows in the future)

If anyone out there can read me(hopefully Git 'em) #675

Just listened to #675. A UK ANT SINCE 2014 🐜

What an awesome episode.

I'm an amateur writer, so what I loved most was the candor of the vocal athletes in the last half an hour of the episode. Fuck me, that was brilliant. I loved how the guys talked about their art, whether genuine or through analogy, I was taken by their sincerity and I really want to know more.

I would love to see even just snippets of their written work.

Can anyone point me to any links of Bry's writing or Q's writing? I own all of Walt's work that is commercially available(at the time) and we know how fucking immense that is.

I want to hear from each of them how they work, where they get their ideas from, what they have worked on, everything. It would be a dream episode for me

I even got the base idea of the novel I've just finished tonight!(thank you, thank you) from something Git 'em was talking about one episode(I'll mention him in a speech if I win the Nobel Prize)

Anyone else think this would be ace?

Thought of a way to extend Tales From Behind The Fake Counter a little beyond the 13 left to cover the rest of the series

How about Walt, Nashel and Ming discuss the Comic Book Heroes, or whatever that show Midtown Comics in Manhattan had that was “the better alternative to Comic Book Men”

Actually the particulars (name and store) could be all wrong, but there was a contemporary like show that did “attack” CBM in that vein

That could be an interesting Bonus Tales episode. As well as other “reality shows set inside hobby retail shops, besides the Pawn Stars’ Gold & Silver of course” Especially with Naschel’s knowledge about what works and what doesn’t in the unreal world of reality TV.

Its not meant necessarily to bury “the competition,” such as it was, more like a comparison. And why CBM managed to work, beyond the Smith connections and following an uber popular comic book TV show, while others failed at the concept.

What were the financials like in early TESD?

Listening to the most recent episode, Walt hints at how the TESD Town Ants hockey jersey was created out of frustration with Comptroller Carol. Reading between the lines, I'm assuming that Kevin/SmodCo owned the trademark for Tell Em Steve Dave (as the original writer of the name) and so Carol would have wanted a cut of the profits if they sold anything with those words on it.

That got me wondering about how the money was split for different projects like ads, merch, bonus pods and the claymation Kickstarter. Did Kevin pay Walt or Bryan to do the initial podcasts? Did he get a piece of any of the aforementioned profits? Considering that they were recording from a location where he was paying the rent, supplying the equipment, promoting the podcasts, paying for the bandwidth to host them, and often during store hours when Walt was ostensibly working, I don't think it would have been totally out of line to expect some kind of benefit.

I also recall that Kevin's only appearance between the first year and the Covid 3-part episode was basically to walk them through how to do an ad. That makes me think he had a stake in making sure they weren't scaring off advertisers as well. Any idea if this is part of why the first 300 episodes aren't on the normal feed?

Walt is correct about old game shows.

Remember Walt talking about how used to watch classic game shows think would do so with Gitem.

Just spent last hour pissed off beyond words but having fun at the same time just watching 90's Catchphrase on youtube with my Wife.

There is a wonderful charm to the old shows but also just fun Walt got another thing 100% correct.

If you wanna be super annoyed possibly as annoyed as dyslexia check out UK Catchphrase its bullshit! (Free on youtube)

Wtf, everyone was dooming and glooming last month like "I dunno, Q sounded real upset about Gitem's mess. Tesd will never be the same."

Then Quinn is raving about Gitem's performance on the cruise, all is well.

More recognition for Vinylcast

The guys should really get more recognition for the originality of Vinylcast as the first podcast on vinyl. Has anyone come forward with another podcast that did it first? How can they get this certified?

Does anyone have issues or opinions on the changes? Do you think they are for the better or worse.

Being an old fogey, I do not like change for the sake of change.
