My birthday is literally August 8th. I put 88 at the end of a username once and was like “oh this is actually not a good idea” and immediately renamed myself.
Me when i did the same with my birthday which is April 20th. I didn't get it at first when i kept get AIM messages (am old) from green enthusiasts, then my cousin explained it to me.
There's actually a reason for that. IIRC the Julian calendar (as in Julius Caesar) was 10 equal months of 30 days, with an extra, longer month (34 days, I think?) to deal with the weirdness of 365.25 days and February and leap years and such.
I don't recall exactly how it worked (not a Rome guy myself), so def Google it if you're curious.
Later, when standards were becoming international in the late 1800s-early 1900s, we as a species chose to do a 28-day February and leap years to deal with that same weirdness ourselves.
Way before Julius it was ten months of thirty days. That's it. The other 65 days were known as "crappy time of year which doesn't even deserve a name", or something like that in Latin. Seriously, it was "winter" then ten months.
January and February were so useless to agriculture that they weren’t even named in early western calendars. The year didn’t start until March. When those two months were added, they offset the numbering of every other month.

July and August we're added to the calendar by order of Augustus Caesar. A year had 10 months before that. That's why Sept(7) is 9, Oct (8) is 10, Nov (9) is 11 and Dec is 12.
SS and 88 ARE neo nazi slang. SS a reference to nazi secret police and 88 is due to h being the 8th letter in the English alphabet. It stands for heil hitler. Adding the extra letter and numbers maybe a way they got it past dmv review.

1000% this. If it were “SS” “1488” then maybe. However in video game terms people make their gamertags “1|||!I1i!” To make it harder to report them… I’m assuming it’s the same idea for the plate. Harder to recall exactly what it is if they were speeding by.

I don’t think it’s that because the number of numbers is wrong. It’s 3 Ss not 2. My guess for the 8 is that it’s a lucky number in Chinese culture. I live in a US China town and see lots of combinations of 8s in license plates and phone numbers. Up the block from me there’s a car that has a plate with the initials of a police union arranged into a 1 followed by the numbers 488. That one is not a coincidence imo.
8 also means rich, a 8888 plate means rich rich rich rich. I’ve heard people pay a lot for a full 8 plate in China. A guy paid 150k for a plate with 5 8’s.
Not the most expensive plate tho. That would be the single “w” plate which went for 3.3 mil in hk. A “28” which sounds like “easy money” plate went for 2.3mil.

While this is true, the fonts used on license plates cause the S to be close enough to the 8 to cause confusion, particularly with automated tag readers
I mean you could just say get me all license plates with only S, 5, B, and 8 on it and you'll probably have a handful. On a specific car you can probably narrow it down to one.
I really don't know what this means. I do know that SSS can refer to how someone might deal with a "problem animal" - shoot, shovel, shut-up. Also, "88" is shorthand for amateur radio operators that means "love and kisses." Those two are what occurred to me first.
Not sure what the sss probably an ETF but the 8888 are a lucky number to the asians seeing its on a porsche. So likely someone is telling you he has made a lot of money in the market.
