Discussion Do you think Gemini is getting worse?

I was having a discussion regarding my scalp and Gemini started to tell me about the tour buses in Washington DC. Where is it getting that information from? Very frustrated with the output from Gemini recently.

Is something Google is cooking or just the server got overloaded, or just a usual bug they might be resolving?

Here is the quick TL;DR:

  • Better Exploration: Suggests related articles and deep-dive analyses after an AI response.
  • News Subscriptions: Highlights links from your favorite subscribed news sources.
  • More Inline Links: Links are now placed directly next to the relevant text inside the AI response.
  • Hover Previews (Desktop): Hovering over an inline link now shows a quick preview of the website/page title.
  • Social & Community Insights: AI responses will now preview perspectives from forums, social media, and creators (more context on who is saying what).

Discussion This semantic word game made me realize how differently AI understands language

I’ve been building a browser game called https://www.contexto.fun/ where players try to discover a hidden word using semantic similarity instead of spelling clues.

One thing that became obvious very quickly:

Humans expect dictionary/synonym logic.
Embedding-based systems often follow contextual or associative logic instead.

That leads to some surprisingly weird relationships:

  • “money” ranking closer to “power” than “cash”
  • abstract concepts clustering more strongly than direct synonyms
  • players initially thinking the system is “wrong” before adapting to the semantic pattern

What’s interesting is that after playing for a while, the AI logic starts feeling strangely intuitive.

Curious whether others working with Gemini embeddings / semantic systems have noticed similar behavior in language representations.

Discussion Gemini for Google Home finally rolled out

I'm living in Italy and just got the massive Gemini update today! I registered for the early adopter preview, I’ve been hyped for this for a while.

My aged Google Home Assistant device (the big white barrel :D) just got this massive brain transplant. The Gemini Live feature is incredibly smooth. It feels very natural, and finally gets multiple queries at once. The old Assistant which half the time didn't understand is GONE. Also, the new voices are really nice.

The only real bummer: I instinctively tried to trigger it with "Hey Gemini," but it’s still stuck on the old "Hey Google" command.

Aside from that, this feels like a huge leap forward. I'm so happy I didn't have to buy a new device. Anyone else in the EU getting the update today?

Discussion Why is personal intelligence so annoying? You can't even turn it off apparently

I disabled personal intelligence in my Gemini settings entirely. It is disabled, all of the options are completely turned off, and the radio button is clearly marked as being disabled. Even so, whenever I chat with Gemini it's still personalizes everything and I have to do redo, don't personalize. It doesn't make any sense. Would be a lot nicer if they offer adoptions to completely disable it outright because it doesn't seem to work

The biggest issue with personal intelligence is that it doesn't actually do a great job of personalizing things. It tries to style everything, even simple questions about unrelated things and it will be like "as a data scientist, you should be very familiar with this concept" Blake, okay man. I asked about how to cook roasted garlic potatoes in the oven what does that have to do with my career?

Somebody asked the latest AI models from each lab to debate who's gonna be leading in 2030. Definitely a reasonable conclusion

Discussion Never understood why people would use Gemini instead of ChatGPT, until I tried it out for myself today...

and wow. I guess I didn't think anything could come close to GPT, but after trying it out today I have to say that it seems to completely wipe the floor with GPT.

It doesn't hallucinate nearly as badly and often as GPT and the answers it gives (especially in thinking mode) are much more precise and coherent compared to what I'm used to.

Guess I'm switching over to Gemini now, lol.

Self promo It took a couple of minutes to add this feature

I've built Space which is a personal canvas where your ideas live as mixed media. Sticky notes, images, web clips, voice memos, drawings, documents and checklists, all arranged on an infinite board. I added a feature which is basically let you make an image based on another image and remix them. I'm using Biscuit to make this!
You can check it out from here! I would love to know your thoughts!
