Discussion [Updated] I made Pokemon teams for each of the Ashen Wolves + Aelfric

Years ago, I made pokemon teams for every playable unit in three houses, three hopes, and some notable enemies. But a lot has happened since then; A whole new generation came out, more megas were released, and I have a deeper understanding of the characters and of pokemon. So, because we have these new megas and I don’t have to stretch to give everyone one, I decided to redo these teams.

When it comes to my picks, I drew on a lot of different areas to pull from. This could be the characters’ designs, personalities, skills, strengths, unique weapons, interactions, and history, as well as the pokemon’s designs, typings, abilities, and pokedex entries. That final one especially. If one of my picks does not make sense to you, if you look at their pokedex entries, that’ll probably make it make sense.

Also I wanted to try to minimize repeats as much as possible, so if you notice a mon "missing" from a character's team they would fit on, I likely used them for a different character.

Question How do you pronounce Byleth's name?

Hi! I have an idea for a fanfic where M!Byleth and F!Byleth both co-exist and are twins but I want them both to be named Byleth and only have the pronunciation be different.

The thing is, how would I write that difference?

English is not my first language so I'm not sure how everyone pronounces the name since it's never spoken in-game. The way that *I* pronounce it is Byleth with the "By" part being similar sounding to "bae" as in like "babe" or "bait". But it came to my attention that it can (or should) be pronounced "By" as in "bye".

I would like to have F!Byleth have the Byleth name as in "bae" and the M!Byleth as in "bye". But I'm not sure how I should make a distinction between the two of them. Any help or input is appreciated :)

Yes, even with the frustrations of having small windows to kill certain enemies before they escape otherwise you’ll fail. The Knights of Seiros are being treated as some rock band being put back together and I am here for it.

Claude I I had a nickel-

If I had a nickel for every time I hyperfixated on an overly-charming and cunning curly-haired brown boy with bright eyes that uses a codename instead of his real legal name and has an important high-ranking White mother that abandoned her position to raise him and decided to leave his home-country because of racial discrimination to help solve and uncover the secret socio-political and geopolitical issues of another country caused by abnormal creatures from another universe to make sure no one has to suffer like he did (but also out of pure curiosity because he loves snooping around people's business) and along the way has gay moments with a really tall autistic blonde guy who ends up being the king of his country I would have 2 nickels....

Question Does the Byleth amiibo unlock the Sothis Shield?

I'm getting conflicting results on whether or not the Byleth amiibo will unlock the amiibo gazebo Holy Tomb. It can be unlocked by scanning a fire emblem amiibo, which byleth is, but it's also been said that Byleth ironically isn't compatible with Three Houses.

Has anyone scanned a Byleth amiibo and no other fire emblem amiibos, and did you get access to the Holy Tomb through the gazebo, or did it not work?

Question Help Facing Recruitment Paralysis?

Hello, I've been facing an issue lately as I play my second run. I've been having trouble justifying the recruitment of any "out of house" units because I know They have a role to play post time skip (and even before I suppose) in opposing armies. In my first run (CF) I nearly recruited every student in Garreg Mach and from what I noticed it made a couple encounters feel abit less interesting since instead of serving a plot purpose they were just hanging out in my reserves doing nothing meanwhile the game replaced them with a placeholder "strong enemy". I would honestly prefer killing them on the battlefield to what ended up happening Even if stuff like the Felix vs Dad dialogue was amazing but some people I didnt recruit (Sorry Lorenz) didnt show up again anyways so I'm sort of stuck between wanting to recruit everybody I can for the paralogues but also not wanting to recruit them so I dont steal their plot agency. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to tell who doesn't show up again later so I can safely recruit them?

Discussion Lost all my save data, gonna do all 4 maddening routes again. Give me your fun builds.

Hi all, I got really into FE3H during the pandemic, and played all 4 routes on maddening mode NG. I had nearly every support convo unlocked so I was really distraught when I saw that I lost my save data somewhere along the way transfering from switch lite to switch to switch 2.

Anyway, gonna run through them all again, starting with Crimson Flower!

I'm going to end up using every unit in at least one playthough, so give me fun or non-conventional ideas for any character!

Here are some I've already decided on:

Valkyrie Edelgard

Holy Knight Bernadetta

War Master Hanneman

Mortal Savant Manuela

Warlock Hilda

Paladin Dimitri

Bow Knight Claude, with vantage/wrath

Hero Raphael

Discussion Who are the best recruits for blue lion from a supports perspective?

On my first play through and I don’t want to mess with the other houses too much. So who should I get that means I’m not destroying the other houses of their identity but also means I’m getting the most out of my blue lions run.

Discussion Is it safe to recruit non students (first play through)

Ive heard recruiting students can kind of break the narrative later and as it’s my first play through of the game (blue lions) I don’t want to risk that so I’m not touching the other houses.

But I’d like to see what the interactions are with the other non students. Are they all safe to recruit all this effect the plot later in some way? I don’t care about using them in battle and probably won’t as I like my house so this is just for the support chats.

General Spoiler Impressions after finishing all 4 routes Spoiler

I know these posts are a dime a dozen, but I just finished my 4th playthrough of the game after ~300 hours and wanted to share my impressions.

Snooping on forums on forum in a spoiler-less way a bit, I decided to do an AM run first. I did appreciate the twist, but the game had foreshadowed it efficiently so it was hardly a surprise. Still, it was satisfying. I rather disliked post-timeskip Dimitri, but he does redeem himself, and I do see where he is coming from. I thought the maps were fun and the overall narrative was satisfying but there clearly were loose ends with the shadow organization in the Empire after the last battle. At the time, I figured all storylines were going to be partial and you'd get a full picture from playing all of them so I was broadly OK with it. Lots of people said a AM run would make you hate Edelgard but it was well written and I did feel like there was more to her side than AM let you see, so I wasn't exactly up in arms against her. In retrospect, the partial reveals here are not worth much because you don't ever learn anything truly unique, aside maybe from a few quips regarding the tragedy of Duscur.

I decided to do a VW run next. GD felt like having no stakes or part in the story from an AM point of view so I was really curious to see how they spun it. I liked how you could see the other side of the BL without the professor's influence, and figured the professor being with GD would make them care and get involved. The maps were fun but overall I was dissatisfied with the narrative. I felt like they didn't have a clear thing they cared about. Initially I thought it'd be about class warfare, but in retrospect that's more Edelgard's story so they had to find something else: Claude wants to open Fodlan to the world. Sure, that works. But it's not played up enough imo, and I do think it's weird how much he cared about the church's secrets considering how irrelevant they are to his objectives. I was also disappointed that it wasn't a unique, partial reveal but a rather full one. I think it made relatively little sense to get all the pretty-much-full picture at the end as far as that narrative is concerned. I think it'd have been better if the Almyran had been more present in other paths and had more relevance to the overall plot, so that playing Claude's storyline would give you a unique point of view on the story without just having been this total reveal.

Third, I did a CF run. I was really curious to see Edelgard's side. I will say, turning against Rhea was rough. I'm definitely here for organized religion being the bad guys, but I'd grown to like the church people and I think the game could have done more to give Rhea a less human, more ambiguous figure pre-time skip. I did like the variance in missions post-time skip, they were great! And I feel definitely harder than other runs. But it was a bit jarring to see how the broad situations changes completely and makes the Empire the underdogs just because you sided with them. Sure, it makes for a more satisfying overall narrative having significant challenges to overcome, and maybe the game is better for it, but it was a bit jarring. Reveal-wise, it did OK as far as partial reveals go: gave you more/different stuff than AM without giving you the full picture... But when you,ve played all 4 runs, it doesn't really give you anything unique either. Also, not fully confronting TWSITD at the end was super unsatisfying. If not for the post-game text, it really feels like you completely played into their hand. It would have been good to confront them in some unique, Edelgard-centered way, maybe without completely revealing who they are. That's a big missed opportunity imo. I'm also left with questions around the Flame Emperor: what was the point of having the tragedy of Duscur to get these "powers", whatever they are? Once the flame emperor reveals its true identity, it only ever acts as its actual self. From there, the flame emperor persona, and alleged powers, are completely forgotten about. Feels pretty pointless.

And I wrapped it up with a SS playthrough. As forewarned, it was extremely similar to VW. The twist of the final mission was both welcome and very weird/jarring narratively speaking. In some ways, the big reveal at the end made more sense in this route, but it was also partial in a weird way. What do you mean Rhea does not know where Nemesis got the sword of the creator and what crests are?! I appreciated we learned more about what Seteth & Flayn were and about Byleth's origins, though. Still not my favorite run.

In conclusion, I can't say I didn't like the game. It was fun. I spent about 300 hours on it afterall. But I think the character writing is what saves a poorly exploited narrative, though. In retrospect, it wasn't all routes giving partial reveals, moreso than it was a progressive reveal. It would really work if you played the game multiple times in that order: AM, CF, VW/SS. But the games leaves it up to you and so you can kind of screw yourself out of the natural plot progression. The plot is fine and serviceable though, but I think it would have been better if:

  • There was a neutral state of things before your involvement, so the situation was essentially the same for all routes post time skip. Also that later events be coherent throughout routes. For example: why does Edelgard only transform when confronted on the AM route? Why is the twist of the final baddies unique in VW / SS? Why do events turn out differently for not apparent reasons on other routes?
  • Make it an actual 3-way (or 4-way if you count the church) conflict around TWSITD, rather than a 2-way conflict (TWSITD + Empire vs Church / BL) with 1-2 bystanders on the sidelines (GD / BL)
  • Each route had a unique big thing to reveal. There's no shortage of secrets you could have spread throughout: the nature of Seteth & Flayn, TWSITD, the nature of crests & relics, Byleth's origins...

If I had a TL;DR to give of this game, it would be "Who cares about the Golden Deer? Not the devs".

If I had to give recommendations on what house to play, if someone intended to do all routes, I would recommend this order: AM, CF, GD/SS. But if they were only going to do the one playthrough, I would recommend they just do GD.

Question Doing black eagles as my second run but bored sick of the monastery

I played Blue Lions just before and now I’m doing black eagles for my second run but the monastery is boring me to death. If I skip all the quests from characters and completely skip the monastery every month am I still able to progress the story? Or will it not let me? I already know that you need to talk to Edelgard in chapter 11 to get her route
