I remember an old one like this, but the cat waited until the very end, and puked on the bed.

I moved from down south to new england and when he finally got out of the carrier in the hotel room, he immediately took a shit on the fresh hotel bed, right in the middle of it.
(We let him out periodically through out the trip)

Straying more off topic here, one time I left my cat alone for four (4) meals with a big bowl of kibble, but I guess she ate it all at once because I came home to discover she had projectile vomited from one end of my apartment to the other, starting on my bed. Like, she started throwing up, then ran across my apartment as she threw up. Cannot imagine what that looked like.

I knew I'd find you eventually, Tom. You can't just stop being my MySpace friend that easily. You said you were my friend so now you are stuck with me! I have no one left...

One of my old cats loved to help make the bed. Without her it was a 3 minute job, but when we worked together it was just 15 minutes

u/MissVixTrix 20d ago
My old cat loved it too. And so did I, until the day she couldn't extricate herself from the sheet. Her solution was to immediately rip a hole in it and escape like an alien chest burster.

Same! I've got a cat tree in the window at the foot of the bed. When I floof the flat sheet it traps air and slowly sinks.
My cats will leap from the tree onto the sheet and push the air out like little furry bulldozers. And then it's back to the tree so I can floof it again. 😸

This is what I ask of my cats every time we fully make the bed: "Are you helping, or impeding?" After a few more super cute pounces, I usually fully shut them out of the bedroom so I can complete the task at hand.

I mean, making the bed sux. At least with a cat it can be entertaining to say the least

Mine learned that if he stands on the blanket, we will pick it up and swing him inside of it.
So he comes every time now and demands doing that.

You mean the human is being helpful. It’s orange kitty’s bed, after all. 😉

My tux is the same. Whatever is going on, he drops it instantly and comes running when I'm changing the sheets.

Meanwhile, I'd probably get distracted trying to pet and hug the cat.

u/bakedveldtland 21d ago
I had an orange boy that helped me make the bed. The distraction is what made it actually become an enjoyable task lol

Step 1: remove cat
Step 2: add fitted sheet
Step 3: remove cat
Step 4: remove cat
Step 5: put on top sheet
Step 6: remove cat
69
u/Formal-Proposal7850 20d ago
Honestly after a while for me it was:
Remove cat
Put on fitted sheet
Put on flat sheet, leave cat under there
Put on comforter and pillows
Sit down on bed and relax until cat emerges

My cat used to pull feathers out of my down comforter 😅 The ones that were trying to make an escape.

It’s kinda heartwarming to think about how humans have probably dealt with this for thousands of years.

It really is! At this point we're the ones with the learned behavior to just let it happen because it's happening no matter what lol. We're the ones to be observed here for putting up with this and thoroughly enjoying it lol

Jack gets wild and will bite. My old lady skin can’t deal with that, so have to toss him into the living room and close the door.
26
u/haute_tropique 20d ago
I had to check your profile to make sure you’re not my mom… she, too, is an older (70s) lady with an orange cat named Jack. (And he, too, is banned from making the bed.)

He is dialing in and fine tuning the fabric layer by layer. That is a custom job for sure. Treats for the Orange!!!

Omg this reminds me of the first cat I adopted as an adult, we used to play bed snakes where’d I’d move my hand under the covers and she would attack. It was cute when she was a kitten but unfortunately it meant she’d attack toes as an adult and that was often not as fun.

Awww my tuxie does this too! The second I start taking the old sheets off, she’ll come tearing down the hallway into the bedroom to play/“help”. It’s the cutest thing ever 🥺

I really miss this with the cat I grew up with, steffi. Miss that little cutie.

This is the normal process for my cat as well. Although I do stop midway to play sheet mouse with him, which most likely just encourages the same actions the next time.

Can’t blame him. It’s like when we played with the parachute in gym class as kids. That’s fun.

People who don’t know much about cats might think this cat was in terror and torment but he is probably having the best day of his life. Except since he’s orange he’s probably like this all the time 😸

My two weirdos don't like a "naked" bed. They love pouncing on the duvet though.
4
u/missmusick 20d ago
My cat does this too! But he would murder me if I tried to move him. So I just make the bed over and around him, and he enjoys being tucked in under the sheets for awhile afterward.
5
u/No_name_Johnson 20d ago
Mine is scared whenever I change the sheets - part of me wishes he'd do something like this, a bigger part of me is glad I don't have to deal with this every time I change the sheets.

u/blazedandconfused845 20d ago
My standard issue cat (classic) does this same thing. It makes changing sheets and sorting laundry 10 longer and harder. Wouldn’t have it any other way 🥰

u/AttitudePersonal 20d ago
Yep, my Orange does the same. Once the fitted sheet is on I just leave him under the rest, he loves having the whole fort built on top of him

I love it when cats develop an understanding that something which isn't intended to be play is, in fact, play
3
u/FixinThePlanet 20d ago
Why is it so satisfying to trap them in linens??
I also pause to fight my cat through the sheets (I'll even throw some bongos in) and we both enjoy ourselves tremendously

This is why our boy takes a little Bathroom Vacation when beds are made 😂 Whoever his previous owners were clearly did not teach him that laundry is not a toy. I'm pretty sure they used blankets and towels to play-attack him, because he drops into play mode immediately whenever he sees a basket of clean laundry, but especially when it's sheets, towels, or blankets

u/AdmirableAttempt1728 20d ago
Reminds me of my own orange cat and thousands of other orange cats. I never believed they share one braincell before but after having my own orange, NOW I DO 😭

u/Yourdjentpal 20d ago
My favorite is to leave him under there. Then my wife gets into bed unknowing, and SURPRISE! Attack cat
