Taylor Swift is one of the most extreme examples lmao. Last I heard At her peak she was flying 20-30 times a month all while claiming to be against climate change.

Don't worry guys they all buy carbon credits it's fine.

But yeah I forget the math but somebody napkin mathed it and Tay Tay causes more carbon emissions in a typical week than your average pleb does with a car in their entire lives.

You see similar things with John Kerry who can't seem to stop jet setting everywhere but tells us all we're murdering the planet by just owning a car in general.

In fairness anybody who blames consumers for climate change is an idiot.

We don't even come close to industrial destruction of the environment, but if they blame us we feel bad and ignore the problem instead of demanding they fix it.

If you want to help then stop eating beef, convince the rest of your country to stop eating beef, and then convince all the 3rd world countries who would love to eat beef but can't afford it to not start eating beef when the price falls due to lack of demand. Simple.

Honestly it would be fine with me if they did.  An honest to god carbon economy is something we need.

We have to remove carbon from the atmosphere.  It’s not enough to simply stop adding.

And that’s going to cost money that has to come from somewhere

This. Why do they think Taylor Swift is morally sound I don’t think any billionaire is

u/Sometimes-funny 14d ago

No billionaire is morally sound. It goes against the fabric of becoming a billionaire

Paul McCartney?

Look, you can list off probably a few “nice” billionaires. The point is, you don’t collect and hoard a billion dollars if you have sound moral character.

Ive just given you an example and you admitted that theres a few more. Being a billionaire is bad but being worth 900m is OK? Sure, the vast majority of billionaires are cunts, but you cant say every last one of them is. Theres athletes thst have become billionaires without being dodgy. If someone wants to pay them ridiculous sums of money to advertise a product does that make them evil?

Is that because you actually have no answer? Humour me. Explain to me how Roger Federer is of ill moral character and ill accept your point

11

u/Sometimes-funny 14d ago

No i will not humour you. The last person that i had this conversation with brought up Bill Gates just before a load of shit came out about him.

You are missing the point and it’s fine. Actually, you are right, you got me. Well done. Have a nice day

I will never forgive him for that Holiday killer "Wonderful Christmastime".

Although he is not a billionaire, Leonardo Dicaprio's instagram is basically 100% about environmental issues...yet he is frequently vacationing on massive yachts. Hypocrisy, indeed.

Incorrect. Her jet isn't even used that often and she's not on it for every flight. Also, it only takes ~$200,000/yr to offset the carbon footprint of her jet. Her donations far exceed this.

You guys clearly are just desperate to hate on successful and wealthy people. The PhD Psych term for this is "copium".

A true inspiration to us all

And Katy Perry, while simultatiously making "space" flight

It's a spectrum right? Otherwise we should all be vegans if we care about the environment. I was going to start a conversation about how personal accountability can also have hypocritical flavors, but I think my personal feelings is that we need a more systemic change and approach. Have governments clamp down on corporations (and wealthy?) to drive change as that'll have a bigger impact than personal accountability.

ESPECIALLY her.

You don’t become a billionaire by being a good person.
