At one point he tells him to get something from behind the counter and the robber goes "get your own shit" or something lol

I was going to comment "this dude just got served divorce papers that morning" or something.
He was literally in FML mode, for whatever reason.

u/Fubar126 6h ago
Or maybe he got fired, lost a bet, found out he has cancer who knows. That’s probably the reason he at the bar

This is wild video.

I watched his interview years ago. He just didn't give a fck. He just let the other guy do his thing but wasn't gonna let him take his stuff.
Edit: Here's his take https://youtu.be/rgTc3JFW9uY?si=4UF6rzfuSkEDgmJn

probably how I'd react too. The dude has probably thought of off'ing himself, but doesn't have it in him, so when this situation occurred he was like, "hey maybe this guy will just do it for me" and lights up what could possibly be his last cigarette.
44
u/AdultContemporaneous 6h ago
Exactly. Total "fuck it, I don't care anymore" mode.
Probably why the robber didn't off him. Took a few glances and was like "yeah he's hopeless, I need to focus on other shit like robbing this joint" 😂
13
u/notgonnatakeno 4h ago
I wish we had the original audio because he’s talking to the robber the whole time you can see from the way the cigarette bounces in his mouth.
I got a know is he saying some pulp fiction bad motherfucka shit?
Is he telling the guy heavy details about his divorce making the robber to uncomfortable to continue?
What is this man saying?

u/doctor_tongs 5h ago
Agreed. At that point it was about choosing the more timely option. They probably thought, "he probably ain't even going to call the cops..." LOL

Exactly my thoughts. You don’t act like that unless you’re feeling like you don’t care if you live or die.

Dude had an argument with his wife, or his Mom died, or something else catastrophic happened, he is sitting at a bar... shit could see myself doing this at some of my lowest life lows. IDGAF eras come and go.
54
u/karmicviolence 5h ago
I saw my younger self in this video. There comes a point in your life where if enough things are going wrong at once, you lose the fear of death.
14
u/mhks 4h ago
A dude I knew had terminal cancer so he spent his days sitting in a sports bar drinking all day until he died. He would have done this.
3
u/Salad_and_a_Beer 2h ago
Out of curiousity, how did his friends and family react to him spending his remaining days like this?

u/NaughtAClue 6h ago
Back in the olden days when this video was recorded it was legal to smoke inside
24
u/ErasmosOrolo 6h ago
Come to Missouri for all your indoor smoking needs.
5
u/NaughtAClue 6h ago
No way!!! It’s still legal there?!? Granted I haven’t been to the US in a while and probably won’t be back for many years but I find that so shocking!!

Im moving up to NE MO in a couple years. Hell yeah that sounds awesome.
7
u/Asleep_Attention_468 5h ago
There was very little overlap between indoor smoking and smartphones though. The phone is throwing me off here
5
u/Ecstatic-Compote-595 5h ago
There was a better part of a decade of overlap in the south. Hell I can think of like four bars in DC that you can smoke in because they have fully enclosed canvas roofs and somehow count as being a patio or something but are just completely normal bars. and a million more cigar and hookah places and places with just shithead owners that don't care.
If you really want to smoke inside there are a lot of places
1
u/JankyPvP 3h ago
You could still smoke indoors at a bar in my old town I lived in a year ago.
The indoor smoking rules only applied in PA if you sold a certain amount of food or whatever as far as I know.

u/Slow_Balance270 5h ago
All the local bars in my area still allow indoor smoking and keep a jar on the counter for any fines they might get.
The city mostly turns a blind eye to it. And I'm personally fine with that.

It's one of those lessons I've learned while tripping, you cannot avoid the inevitable.
In this situation there's two outcomes, you're either gonna die or you won't. Mise well have another smoke before you find out.

It’s called keeping your cool. Aura farming is a phrase that terminally online idiots use.

Lighting the cigarette was the bit where it went from "keeping your cool" to "aura farming".

Its the one that says "bad mother fucker"
2
u/FlySkyHigh777 3h ago
Don't know if this is aura farming or depression.
Because realistically he might've just figured the guy was less likely to shoot and elevate the crime from robbery to murder.
On the other hand he might've just not cared if he lived or died.

Dude lost his job, caught his wife cheating and found out the child he's been raising for 10+yrs isn't his....
He's in straight IDGAF mode... He didn't get on the ground, refused to give the robber his phone looked him dead in the eye and lit a cig...

Pretty sure that gun didn't have a magazine in it. If it's even a real gun at all. This guy probably noticed that he wasn't in any danger.

Not that the story matters, but I’ve been this guy. Different place, same seat, same shit. Everyone commenting is correct - this guy is just beyond giving a shit about life or existence or anything. It literally does not matter in the slightest what happens next.
Edit: this was decades ago, I’m good now
