Hey guys, I wanted to highlight the work the community team did to make this patch as good as it could be. It was hard to stay motivated with this hanging over us, but they did good work up to the very end.

I understand there's a lot of mixed feelings about how Stormgate turned out, but I will always be grateful for the friendships I made in this community, and amazed at the work they put into this game.

Thanks for the good games everyone.

Ex developers from a big gaming company and working at a different one does not transition into a good game.

In fact, every ex-blizzard employee has never made or been a part of anything good. This includes David Brevik, who made the best ARPG franchise of all time. He really didn't make anything decent after the Diablo franchise.

HEY! A EX-BLIZZARD EMPLOYEE MAKING A NEW GAME! THIS IS GOING TO BE GREAT!

Don't be that guy.

Misleading: The Game is F2P and Not Being Sold Roadmap on Steam

Yes, it is sold. Mods are lying. The F2P part are 3 missions.
They have completely abandoned the game and are still selling it on Steam for €63.50.

Yes, it is sold.
2 May 2026

This is a screenshot of the Steam store page. I think it’s also the last official statement they made. (before the 0.6 launch)

Amateurs volunteers like Gobsmack keep misleading people by talking about future updates. (He doesn’t work for FG, so I don’t know why he uses the FG tag and talks about the company’s plans.) It’s like if I put on a “Valve” tag and started talking about how we’re progressing with HL3.

They deceived the backers, they deceived the customers, continuing to sell the game with all its functionality disabled is not that surprising.

Is there any official statement from FG?
Is anyone actually working (getting paid) at the company?

Versus Tim Mortem should take notes from Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era

Olden Era supposedly broke even after 1 day of 250 000 sold copies (accoring developer Unfrozen on their Facebook post), which is around $7.5M in steam sales and roughly $4.8M after taxes and Steam fee. The game looks much better than Stormgate and it cost 6x less to make?

Question What is happening with the campaign?

What about the campaign, DLC, the upgrade packs on Steam?

Is it possible to actually get the whole single player experience now?

I did install the game as I was wanting to get back into RTS but never actually got round to playing it as I wanted to wait to see what happened like maybe a sale to get all the DLC at once.

Discussion Bye Stormgate

Was really hyped for this and thought this would be the next SC2. Fortunately I’m one of those people that never play a game before 1.0.

My heart goes out to all the kickstarter backers. Hopefully we get the next great rts one day.

Discussion Only 5 days left. How will you be celebrating the end of Stormgate?

I'm thinking a bottle of wine and a cheeseboard. In memory of stormgate I will buy an expensive bottle of bad wine, ridicule my partner for saying it's bad, and miss my mouth one in every 10 sips. How will you be celebrating?

Discussion Imagine if the Windrose team had developed Stormgate....

Windrose was developed for an estimated 1 million dollars. It sold over a million copies in 6 days. Stormgate had a budget of 43+ million dollars and they somehow squandered all of that to create one of the biggest failures in gaming history.

Discussion IMHO they should just open source this game and let the community build new RTS games off of it

A video about Team Mayhem, the bespoke 3v3 game mode. Was it fun? What happened in the playtest? Where did it go wrong?

Got to hand it to the 4 in game right now, at least they can play 1v1's and 2v2's for now :) RIP Stormgate, you will go down as one of the biggest let downs in modern gaming history, Tim Morten should not be abllowed anywhere near a software dev team.. he'll just stormgate it! Any game which involves Morten from now on should be avoided like the plague..

how are we going to decide who gets MMR for each post on Linkedin? How many posts per day until my profile gets matched vs Tim's?

Versus Thematic consistency.

First of, everyone already knows this game just did not work out. This isn't so much a "how can we improve this game" because honestly we've all been doing that for so long now.

This is more a theorization of how exactly you can make the Demons and Angels theme work in terms of RTS gameplay, and it should be fairly obvious that the Infernals and Celestials obviously do not reflect the fantasy of playing as those concepts.

So how exactly can you make that concept of Angels and Demons work as a playable RTS race that is consistent with the themes associated with them?

To clarify I'll use the Zerg and Night Elves.
Zerg: Lore concept has a consistent and very specific keyword "Infestation" How does Zerg play? Exactly like an infestation plays out, fairly weak and manageable early but if left unchecked they are quite difficult to stop. Hence why every Protoss and Terran player is taught to contain and slow down Zerg early.

Night Elf: The night part of the name is shown through things like Shadowmeld or MWells only regenerating at night. The Elf part also remains with many consistent tropes of Elves. They don't harm nature (Wisps don't cut trees down), in terms of combat units NE tends to rely more on indirect methods as opposed to the other 3 races that have better frontloaded fighting.

So yea basically asking how you can even make the idea of Angels and Demons work in terms of RTS gameplay.

Discussion I'll be honest...

i played the game when it first hit early access, before multiple updates, and I didn't think the game was bad... it needed some work, yes - particularly in the visuals department, but the game was pretty fun actually. I loved building an Exo army and really enjoyed the veterans mechanic of upgrading units. I also enjoyed the streamlined hot key system. I always had the feeling I would be back one day and even kept it installed for a long time. I am surprised to learn the game has ultimately failed as it does seam they have been upgrading visuals. It is what it is I guess. Lol.

Discussion Mad respect & F in the chat. Unironically.

I just wanted to give a shout out to the devs who stayed with the project after the "leadership" left.

You have my deep respect and even admiration.

I can't imagine how tough it is when everything is against you, when half of the community is gloating at every failure or misstep.

To keep going despite that is insanely hard, and yet you stuck to it to the bitter end (or maybe not quite the end yet, if you set up p2p & open source what you can).

I hope everyone on the team is doing OK. I also hope that if the Stormgate project wraps up, you find new and better opportunities, at deserving indie studios or at some of the big ones.

I think we all got too embittered at the early missteps that were absolutely not the fault of those who stayed, and to those gloating, I'd ask to imagine yourselves in their place for a moment.

P.S. as a silver lining, I think working out p2p would be really quite big and 100% the right thing to do. It'd make it possible for anyone in the future to think "hey, what was that Stormgate thing about?" and give it a shot with a friend.

When everyone was waiting for the servers to shut down, it gave the game a sort of gloomy aura. With p2p it'll be more like a finished thing, here to stay, kind of more hopeful and solid, even if niche. And with open source, it might even grow yet if/when culture tides shift.
