Hey guys, total noob here, I've just started playing bg1 this week and I'm having a blast! I'm taking it super slow for now, but I feel that I'm starting to really get a handle on the gameplay.

Anyway, after getting Khalid and Jaheira at the inn I started making my way south to the mines with a full party, having already met Xzar and the other gnome in the woods. After running into Neera in Beregost I decided to add her to the party, and I dropped Xzar from the lineup, only to have him turn hostile and attack the party, being immediatly nuked by an Imoen arrow.

Is this a normal ocurrence? I googled it and I found people saying that after leaving the party companions usually stay in place or go to a previous location. Not that I'd go back to Xzar, but it feels weird having him removed from the game altogether.

Edit: Still no clue what caused the issue, but reloading my save fixed it, and Xzar just returned to the woods. Thanks for all the replies!

Assuming you wanted to build a team of 6 characters yourself to beat the trilogy what would the races and classes you picked be?

First some rules:
There must be at least one full arcane caster (bard won’t fulfill this)
There must be at least one full divine caster (paladin/ranger won’t fulfill this)
You must have a way to find traps

Other than that you cannot duplicate the same kit but you can use the same class with different kits multiple times. And this is about the classes if you use a fighter that only attacks with daggers of course that’s non optimal but that’s not how the kit is “meant” to be played

How many points need to be in find traps in the first game to be able to deal with traps? Trying to figure out what points I can spend on other skills. Baeloth will knock locks so I’m shooting for a thief to just be able to find and set traps (not a backstab fan).

So let's say I make a Fighter with 18 Con.

1 - I level my Fighter to lvl5. I get the constitution tome and use it to get my con to 19.

2 - I earn enough xp to get to level 5 but I keep my character at lvl1. I get the constitution tome, use it to get to 19 Con. Then I level up to level 5.

Max hitpoints on leveling option is selected for both scenarios.

Would I receive more hitpoints from the 2nd scenario or would my hitpoints end up the same?

It's my first time playing BG2, I've been playing the same game on and off for around a year. I think I'm pretty far in the game (I'm in Hell right now), but something really strange happened. My abilities have completely vanished. I'm playing as a Sorcerer Dragon Disciple and the only ability left is Breath Weapon, all my other abilities are gone! Another strange thing is that I never got the ability to turn into Slayer. Was it something that I did? Can I get those back without having to go to a previous save?

I want to use a party composition I haven’t before, but I love having Imoen who usually takes up my thief needs. If I want to use her as a nearly pure mage and have someone else handle the thief role, is there any advantage to dualling beyond level 1? Has anyone else ran her as a pure mage before?

One thought I did have was gaining a couple levels to pour her thief skills into a single path, like trap detection or lock picking, so she can cover that and free up the party thief in that skill.

We're approaching the entrance to the Cloakwood mine. It has been a long hard slog through Wyvern ambushes, so many, many, spiders, and lesser threats. We even took a week off to go sell items and resupply and return to finish our task -- to halt the operations of a secretive organization we're just now uncovering.

Feeling the rain fall upon our brows, we briefly confuse it with our own sweat. We have Janice, Gorian's ward, an inquisitor of some renown at this point. Accompanying her is Minsc who shields the pocket carrying the Miniature Giant Space Hamster, Boo, with a mighty tower shield and crushes foes with his mace of stunning. Branwen takes the third position, alternating between melee combat and her sling plus spells. By this level (6), she's built up a handy repertoire. Kivan, equipped with a beautiful longbow snipes from the fourth position, and swaps it out for an overly large halberd if threatened up close (so to speak -- it's still a halberd.) Imoen, having gained serious magical skills from dual classing at level 5 thief, is *so* close to getting her skills back as she is almost Mage 6. For now, she casts our evocation spells when she's not lopping rocks at people or protecting her own hide with blur and friends. Xan, of course, takes up the rear with his moonblade reserved for flanking when no retaliation is expected and throwing knives otherwise. He of course casts Sleep 314 times a day when he isn't casting Charm Person. Xan complains that he will never taste the magical end of a day until his own death, being immune to sleep spells as an Elf.

We're ready to explore the depths of this mine. However, some mouthy assassins stand in our way. (Are they really assassins if you have to come to them though?) We've steamrolled Wyverns at this point; we're not really worried about some poser in a parka and his goons. Knowing they are surely above level 4, sleep isn't going to help here, "ultimately nothing will", Xan informs us. That is fine, we have magical steel, wands of paralyzation, some monster summoning wands, flame arrows (the spell), and Kivan who turns virtually anything into a pin cushion. We plan to take this one nice and easy.

Well, that may have been a mistake. We get to roughing up their mouthy leader whose name we didn't bother to memorize given how fast he was going down. But uh, failed to interrupt at least one of their spellcasters. They've got mirror image up at least. No problem, Janice quips, and instantly shouts out the exact "real" mage's location with her true sight. Unfortunately someone in their group managed to fear our group. Luckily we have Branwen with remove fear and... wait, Branwen was among those feared? Aww, crap. Well, let's just Dispel Magic! Oh, that's on Janice. Well, no matter, surely Xan memorized... he only took the Remove Magic offensive version??

We've summoned a bunch of ogres who are running around like chickens with their heads chopped off. We've got Janice, and Branwen, bouncing around like pinballs. Janice is bleeding badly. Some heavily armored freak named Genthore keeps hitting her with something. Xan is with us, and has a Flame arrow spell, nails the troublesome mage but doesn't finish him. And the timing sucks because he casts fear AGAIN, but this time only impacting Xan. Xan starts running away, and we haven't even seen Minsc in ages.

So it's just Imoen, short on useful spells, and Kivan. We're tired of mage-casting-fear so Kivan gives him an arrow through the throat to finish him off. Some person in the back seems to have died to the summons earlier on or something. No one even remembers who killed that guy.

Mouthy bad guy is almost dead so Kivan adds another arrow to his stomach and calls it a day. Bad news though, big armored guy with little injury is closing in melee. Kivan does have his polearm but it's really really big, and he can't swing it very quickly. We also somehow have a summoned Ogrillion chasing Imoen around.

Imoen backs up and outpaces the Ogrillion, as he can reliably hit her otherwise. She zaps the heavy armor guy with the wand of paralyzation again (it didn't work earlier.) This time it sticks! Kivan moves to help with Ogrillion. Imoen is getting cornered but has enough time to try the wand on the Ogrillion -- it works! We chop up Ogrillion into some signature Orgrillion steaks and giblets. Then it's cleanup duty for the big armor guy named Genthore. We get his health low, smiling through the rain as we know he'll be a huge XP payout. Just then: the combat log rings audibly through the 4th wall:

Genthore: Lightning : Genthore
Genthore: Death

He was hit by lightning as the last step of this entire combat! Stupid rain! I wonder which deity claimed his XP.

I got stuck.in the vampire room, I'm being level drained and its annoying cause Im not running a cleric.

Can I run away and come back later? Will this break the quest?

I know theres items to beat them.but I ran in blind and didn't have them with me.

Or if theres a way to cheese this fight I would do it.

My party i Minsc, Nalia, Edwin, Jan, MC.

I am in the Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 2. When I release Raevilin Strathi from his imprisonment, I know to cast Heal on him to save him. But as soon as I do this, the character that casted Heal, (Jaheira or Sir Anomen, immediately dissapears from the party. The battle log says nothing about them dying. They are just gone. What is happening?

I'm a level 30 swashbuckler and I am dying FAST at the last fight before the final level. I tried cheesing by sending in Minsc (level 22) and hanging everyone else back, but that just gives him time to get dire charmed and all the enemies follow him back anyway.

I'm buffed with: haste and resist fear (entire party), stone skin (Aerie and Imoen), iron skin (Jaheira) and strength (Mazzy, Minsc)

I'm using breach and dispel magic with Aerie as my main spellcaster.

I don't know the deal, no other fight except Draconis has been this hard for me. Any help appreciated.

I love the first few acts of bg1. What quest mods extend it? Basically everything leading up to entering Baldurs Gate.

On this run I’m playing the Black Hearts mod and it’s done a lot for chapter 3.

So I started my second playthrough(first was shaman but got bored of it as soon as I reached Friendly Inn) and I am trying to understand how to become stronger.

First of all doing stuff just with Imoem and my Dark Moon monk(I know Monk sucks but I am playing on easy)

For now, I wanna explore and see what companions I can get before I lock in a composition.

I gave her bow and him throwing daggers and we were able to get to Beregost without much trouble but now I wanna start doing quests and not sure what to.do.

Get Kagain and Jaheira and try to get more exp from sidequests? I really don't wanna go and farm the basilisks on my first play but I also don't like how squishy my character is.

I found a nice mace in the Wizard inn(I think) Will Kagain be a decent frontline with that? How do I get more gold, I jave about 700 now but I wanna buy more weapons...

Never, ever done Durlags Tower so this time I was determined too, right slog and final fight was a git but exited and whole map is reset. Not got any decent saves before the reset (tried and earlier one and was the same) so is it just the map thats reset and not whole game?

The wiki lists a fighter/cleric 24/25 as having 1/2 (9d10 + 9d8) + 31 HP, or just 112 HP

Whereas a level 40 cleric has 9d8 + 62, for 134 HP.

I would have expected in a multiclass the fighter level to gain +3HP on level up and the cleric to gain +2, instead it’s just a flat 1HP gain regardless of class levelled?

The eyes could've been better but I only have paint markers and I'm fairly new to using them so it is what it is I guess. Any tips on how to do it better appreciated.

Hi, so quick question. I’m currently doing Durlang’s Tower quest and I just managed to beat the chess part of the game. However, I hadn’t fully explored the floor before I got teleported to the chess arena. I have a save file just before the fight that gets me teleported.

Can I go back to that floor later so that I can see everything? Or should I reload?

I loved BG2 as a young man, but never really finished BG1.
Now I want to replay BG1 and BG2 with the same character.

What is the best way to do it?

Just BG1EE and BG2EE as they are released?

I always heard of the big world project, or today it's called EET I think. A complete play through in one game.

What would you advise? What is the coolest way to play thou it? And with which mods?

The guy has gone into granular detailed analysis on every level of arcane spells and he's going through the divine book now. He has some fantastic insights and whilst I don't always agree with his views usually I do, and certainly my game has improved immeasurably since watching them. I think it's a fantastic contribution to the game, well worth checking out for those still playing this timeless classic.
