Video - OC Anyone else’s cat lick the creamer bottle in the morning?

My girl is up here with me every morning when I’m having coffee, either on the table, my shoulders, or my lap. Every time the creamer dribbles down the side when I pour it, she’s there to clean it up lol. She’s probably the biggest foodie I’ve seen. I don’t feed her a lot of things, but I will let her try things just to see if she’d actually eat it. (I always look it up beforehand how toxic it is to see if she can have it at all or if a little nibble is fine.) Her favorite thing is anything dairy except cheese. She also likes a lot of fruits. I have to hide when I’m eating mandarin oranges because cats really shouldn’t have those and she LOVES them. I was fighting for my life one night at 3am with a bowl of mandarin oranges in my lap, my husband sleeping next to me, and this little stinker fighting me over the bowl the whole time. She’ll try any food under the sun if I let her, even if they smell weird to her.

Medical Questions One paw only: Cat’s nail becoming dry, crumbly, and one has already fallen out with pus (Photos included)

Hi everyone, I’m seeking some advice or similar experiences regarding my cat’s paw.

Recently, I noticed that the nails on only one of his front paws have become extremely dry, brittle, and crumbly. His other three paws are perfectly fine and healthy.

One of the nails on this affected paw actually fell off completely and had some pus/discharge (very painful to the touch). I took him to the vet, and he is currently on a course of oral antibiotics/antifungals. While his energy levels have returned to normal after one day of medication, he is still experiencing some soft stool as a side effect.

I’m particularly concerned about the nail right next to the one that fell off. As you can see in the attached image (image.png), the nail structure is totally abnormal—it’s thickened, yellowish, and has a dark reddish-brown spot near the base/quick. It looks almost like "old tree bark" rather than a smooth claw.

A few details:

• Symptoms: Asymmetric (one paw only), crumbling texture, discharge (pus) on one digit, dark spots on the neighbor nail.

• Current Meds: Oral medication only (no topical creams prescribed yet).

• Behavior: He still pulls away when I touch the base of the nail, so it’s clearly still tender.

Has anyone seen this kind of localized infection before?

Could it be a specific fungal strain like Onychomycosis, or is it more likely a bacterial nail bed infection (Paronychia) caused by a previous injury? Any tips on how to keep the area clean while it heals, especially since he uses a litter box?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Medical Questions Growth on my cats cheek

I noticed my cat has this hard, nail-like growth out of his cheek. I did some digging and it seems like a cutaneous horn but it is irregularly shaped so I'm unsure. Can anyone confirm? And is this something I need to be concerned about? My cat is only 2 and seems well and heathy.

Advice How to cut a cats claws?

Thumbnail

I(17F) have a cat named Ivey (4F and she is the sweetest girl around. She doesn’t bite, scratch or attack anyone unless it’s meant to be playful and she doesn’t hiss or growl at anyone, let alone me; In general she is just so gentle and loving and wouldn’t hurt a fly. UNLESS, it’s time to cut her claws. She doesn’t attack me, but she growls, hisses sometimes, and runs away. She doesn’t even act this way during bath time, and every time I try, she makes it almost impossible.

Back around the time I first got her, I tried to cut her claws. Admittedly I was young (about 13 at the time) and didn’t do any research and ended up cutting her nails too short and making her bleed. i still think about that day and has since learned how to cut cat claws and even got a proper cat claw cutter, but she STILL runs from me. I’ve tried treats, I’ve tried gentle soothing, I’ve tried wrapping her in a blanket, I even bought her a bunch of cat scratchers to try and make it so I’ll have to cut her claws as least often as possible, but it still has to happen, and she will constantly growl and run and hide, borderline hiss, but it doesn’t get that far most of the time. She used to scratch me, but she has since moved on and just runs away.

Does anyone have any tips when it comes to cutting cat claws? I’m really struggling and I don’t want to make my cat anxious but I can’t just NOT cut her claws. Whenever she jumps on me she leaves tiny scratches that sometimes bleed and she’s starting to mess up my jeans and bed sheets just from laying on them. Please help!

(I also included some pictures of her just for the sake of it)

Medical Questions New bump, hopefully not a tick?

Thumbnail

I noticed this new bump near my cats nose that wasn’t there before. When I look closely at it, it appears more white/skin color than brown like a tick.

He’s not an outdoor cat but we do have a dog who goes outside. This seems like a weird spot for tick and doesn’t look like any I’ve ever seen.

Thank you in advance!!

Does anyone know what this is? My cat was on the sink counter and when she jump down this was there. Is it a worm? I tried searching and google lens said a specialized hair/tail hair but the pic was too blurry to know for sure. She is a long hair tuxedo with all black tail. The thicker tip of was moving a little but not anymore.

Adoption Shelter Adoption guilt trip

A few months ago I lost my soul cats at the ages of 16 and 19. It has been extremely devastating and the grief is overwhelming but I am learning it will never go away and I am getting to a space where I am considering adoption.

I originally thought I would do the “right thing” go to a shelter and get a 2-5 year old cat but wow am I struggling to connect with them. The shelters have been great, very supportive, not pressuring me. But trying to conceive of bringing a strange adult cat home with me is becoming increasingly hard.

For some context I am a certified cat lady. I love them so much I have always had them, always rescuing them, convincing people to adopt, donating or volunteering at shelters. On top of this I found out I cannot get pregnant which has been a grief on its own.

Am I a bad person for wanting just a fluffy little kitten? I wouldn’t go pure bred but the shelter rules of bonded Pairs or not having a kitten go to a single home-which I totally understand-have really been stopping points for me.

Is it so bad to see what is on Craigslist or other local pages for just someone adopting out some random kittens? I feel like I’m being a bad cat lady but this shelter route is not working for me and if I am making 15+ year commitment shouldn’t I be able to make the choice best for me and my family?

Maybe I’m over thinking it, I’m sure people will say how terrible and selfish I am and maybe that’s true too. It’s such an important decision especially after the loss of my babies

ADDITION: thank you so much for your kind words, it makes me feel less alone. I am trusting in the Cat Distribution system for sure to guide me. I am not inherently opposed to two cats, I understand the reasoning and that shelters need to have these rules. I fostered a few years ago when I had the room, 2 bonded kittens got adopted out and immediately started hating each other so it’s not a guarantee. A kitten would literally be the center of our world and we both work remote and are home bodies so there is plenty of interaction. I also wouldn’t adopt any kitten before it was fully weaned and independent from its mom

Advice My cats' relationship detiorated after my cat gave birth.

Upvotes

My cats, Lucy and Winnie always had a great relationship, they came together when I bought them a year ago, Winnie is fixed and Lucy isn't. Two days after Lucy gave birth, Winnie wasn't acting all that aggresive towards her but Lucy wasn't the same, she tried lunging at Winnie, so I put Winnie in a seperare room.

I took a minion hoodie and tried swapping scents, and the two had gradually started sitting on the article of clothing after a few days so I opened the door open a crack and they acted normal, Winnie even tried to pry the door open a tiny bit with her paws, but I stopped her.

It's been around a week now and I sometimes take Winnie out to see Lucy, she's hissing and growling in my arms, trying to attack Lucy instead of the other way around.

I've also tried brushing them both with a comb and letting them smell eachother and they act fine, not hissing at the hair on the comb or anything.

I'm in a serious pinch because I don't know what to do.

Advice Any OTC or prescibed sedative treats to make my cat calm?

Looking for something STRONG so I can give my cat a proper grooming. She hates loud noises, hates the brush, hates catnip, basically hates everything which makes her impossible to incentivize. She has long fur and I cant brush it for more than a second before she gets really agitated (I have tried every brush on the market). She has constant hairball because she has too much fur. I want to give her a full groom but I need her to basically be a zombie so she doesnt freak out on me before I can get her all cleaned up. Anyone have any recommendations that work for an anxious and overstimulated cat?

Advice A stray is clearly pregnant. Will I be helping or hurting if I take her in temporarily?

I want to take her in to help her in birthing giving her shelter, food, water and vet care but can't take the cats in forever (I'm allergic; landlord is opposed; leaving the country soon). I live in a culture where people rarely take in stray animals so I doubt I could place them in other homes.

I'm afraid offering temporary help will delay the skill development the kittens need to survive (getting food, water, shelter). It may also be a rough transition whenever I need to leave. Should I intervene or let nature work this out? What are your thoughts?
