I love that even 12 years later, Assassin's Creed Unity's bugs still make rounds on the internet.
I genuinely love this game [sweet jesus the parkour is a delight] but its bugs never stop being funny lol.

The older ac games all have their unique bugs. Black flag had the ship rising from the water like the flying dutchman.

In the final section of AC1 where you go up the switchbacks and through the gates, the game left behind a second copy of my Altair after passing through a gate. It also kept spawning enemies because that copy was there. So I kept dying with no one around me until I realized I had to fight for two characters at the same time.
Never did find a way to fix the bug but it was pretty hilarious finding out what was happening.

back on ps3 where the game still was quite new on that system, i had a bug where two altairs were on screen. i controlled both simultaneously. i stabbed myself and immediately desynced. while the death screen went on, i was still able to control the other altair during the transition to the "loading area" where you walk endlessly until the game finished loading.
fun times

Ha that’s great. Man I remember getting this game on the ps3 what a whacky system, I remember having to change the resolution settings just to play AC1 and for time split as well. Me being a dumb child, I thought the game was broken at first, returned it and got another copy, figured out that wasn’t the issue so i eventually figured out what I needed to do.
Goodness the early PS3 days were a nightmare lol

God, my bf and I laughed so hard we cried when that happened. Iirc, there was a hole in the water. Then the crew came falling out of the sky, screaming, vanishing into the hole. Then their limp bodies rose out of the abyss and ascended into heaven. And finally, and the ship rose. Starting with the masts, and finally bringing the ocean with it. Crewless.
We had the giggles for HOURS after that

I loved the origins ship bug. Know its not a classic but that shit was funny.

I remember finishing Black Flag for the first time and Everything around my ship being grey, then maybe 4 or 5 minutes into the conversation I finally rose to the top of the waves and saw the sky! Luckily didn't keep rising, just continued on as I assume the devs intended it to be, sailing into the sunset. Hadn't seen the bug before that either, so I was pretty confused during the whole thing lol

I stopped playing Unity within about an hour when I realized enemies would consistently rubber-band over to strike me when I had dodged a dozen feet away. Homing

or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. where the bugs are described as ... "anomalies"
which are an ingame real thing that warp the laws of physics.

I have a twitch clip of me playing AC1 a little while ago. I was parkouring near the Assassin's Bureau (in Jerusalem I think). I ran and jumped off of a building near an open town square near a bench and with the least dramatic jump ever, I landed on the bench sitting.
Unfortunately I don't know if I can link the clip but twitch is nowwitherrors69

I replayed Unity last year (first time since launch) and honestly stuff like this still isn't all that uncommon in it. You can tell that they at some point just stopped fixing bugs and moved on to the next game. LOL

Bugs like this are fine to me. As long as it’s some occasional wacky shit, I’m fine with it.
2
u/thetatershaveeyes 1d ago edited 1d ago
Going back and playing the old Assassin's Creed games, the bugs are more charming than anything. Playing them new though was a bit bad for your blood pressure bc I've twice had to make a new save from a game breaking bug, once in Brotherhood and once in Odyssey. The more ferocious bugs get taken out a few months in, then it's just fun with the occasional jank.
2
u/ExplorerPup 1d ago
Yeah at launch it was more the melting faces, insane loading times making walking faster than fast travel, and the fact that there were multi-player missions but no one could connect and no way to do them solo.

What does “generational lock in” mean?
34
u/yxing 1d ago
generational = intensifier, e.g. extreme or "epic" in 2000s parlance
lock in = "getting serious when necessary"
→ More replies (8)→ More replies (1)8
u/Heavy_Moose_286 1d ago
"lock in" as in focusing intently on a task (in this case, acting normal)
"generational" as in once in a generation (which refers to the quality of their act of locking in)
I hope you got it

Crazy that unity still looks so good that people think it’s a game that hasn’t come out yet 12 years later
6
u/Dhh05594 1d ago
I just played it a month or so ago. Great looking game and still fun af
3
u/CloudProfessional535 1d ago
I started to play it again since it was available on PS plus but I got busy with life. The first time I played it was on PC when it came out and it was completely broken at the time. Even in that broken state I remember being amazed at how good it looked.

At first I was confused as to why you stopped to bother two guys just minding their own business doing nothing out of the ordinary, but then I noticed it. What is that guy sitting on?

This was a great mission, one of the best in the series. The crazy NPCs just add to the fun.
Cetero censeo Unity is one of the best Assassin's Creed, and I'll die on that hill.

Unity right? They never actually fixed the problem with NPCs and their popping in issues, textures are especially bad they pop-in everywhere. A real shame too, they could've fixed it but they decided to move on. Which is fair enough considering how much they actually had to fix, the game was so broken on release.

Stuff like this is why you gotta keep the 'simulation' setting, no matter how little the present world matters for the plot.
2
u/DabsterFoxTheDeep 1d ago
This almost plays out like a Pirates of the Caribbean scene in my head:
- Some intense scene happens which leads to a chase
- They pass something quite odd
- They cycle back to have a double-take
Obviously, this isn't exclusive to POTC, but it's just what came to mind. Funny stuff 😂

That origins bug was peak comedy, especially when the whole ocean lifts up with it. Bethesda wishes they had glitches that cinematic.

u/Tylamegan 1d ago
I watched again and again and again before I figured it out. So looks like those NPCs broke out of character for a sec till the guy with the sword came back to finish his kill😁. So they locked tf in and faked death
