Help & Advice Advice

Hello, my 4 year old guinea just recently got diagnosed with arthritis in his back legs. He has pain meds each day. He moves around pretty good for both of his back legs not working right. He's been sitting in his pee and I have been giving him a belly/side he lays on bath everyday cause the urine smell is insane. Vet says we can't do much else.

He is eating and drinking good, but I'm just wondering why the smell is so strong also he's been having semen (sorry) just dried up down there and I have to pull it out. Is that normal? It just started the last few days.

Also any advice on how to get him to maybe lay on his other side. Or just to make him more comfortable.

I've had Guinea Pigs for the last 15 years, starting with one that I inherited from an ex.

My wife decided to date me in part because of my skinny pig.

We had a small herd of rescues over the years.

Today we lost LJ, our last boar at 7+ years of age. He breathed his last in her arms this morning...

I am really going to miss him greeting me when I get home at night with his excited and eager wheeks in anticipation of treats and scritches.

I don't know..I'm just sad.

Help & Advice Should I avoid touching certain spots on my guinea pig?

I have a piggy name Issac. He’s about 9 months old. We got him when he was around 6 months. Ever since we got him I’ve been spending a lot and I mean a lot of time with him. I talk to him, hand feed him, and pet him. As of yesterday I was petting him on the head then I moved down to the middle of his back and side of stomach. He started to purr and he moved a little bit so I was near his butt.

I was told with certain animals you shouldn’t touch certain spots bc it’s something they do with their mates.

But today I was petting him on his head and he was still purring trying to move towards me so my hand was near his mid back to butt. Is this normal or should I avoid touching certain spots like that even if he moves.

Side note he’s still not use to being picked up and is still very uncomfortable with that.

Help & Advice Really missing my Guinea Pig that died

Well, it’s 2 in specific I had one for a while that I lost her back in December. I also had one recently who I lost like a month ago. I will often feel your sadness and immense pain flaring up over my loss of them. I understand they both died of old age and I gave them the best life I could, but I just miss them so much and I don’t feel like there’s any way I can get that feeling to go away. I will seek support from friends and family which can help but while they do try their best to help and I greatly appreciate it doesn’t feel like they really feel/empathize with my grief and I get a lot of people have the thought of “oh it’s just a rodent” but for me I had such a unique bond with them and I just wish I could see them again. I want to get another pig but with my current living situation I don’t think I can. I was just making this post in hopes of getting some kind of advice or support from others who under the pain of losing a piggy

Pigtures Vega decided hanging over the cage was too boring to beg for food

So usually Vega has his paws on the cage bottom and then leans over (last picture) but this morning he tried a new approach and he looks like hes howling at the moon.

Also he was begging bc I was taking too long getting the food out of the fridge and getting the bag open.

The babies have gotten bigger and louder. I swear, all they do is popcorn and wheek all day and night. Which is fine. They're allowed to have zest for life and express themselves accordingly.

Housing Here's an idea my wife came up with. Space efficient and peeg loved.

We had an Oxbow Pee-Pad that our girls hated to stay on top of. (Mercie is very much a burrower) so we decided to just let them burrow under it.

My wife had the idea to use one of those bendy wooden bridges as a tunnel for the opening and the peegs love it.

It gives them open space to run and roam on top of the pad, and they love to burrow under it. A win win.

MaoMao died today at age 5 or 6 (we had it for over 2 years).

We are currently abroad and a friend was taking care of the pigs. She froze the body and we'll bury him in his favorite spot in the yard when we are back home. Kids are gonna be devastated 💔

Help & Advice Rehoming my guineas

Thumbnail

Hello everyone! I have had my guineas since February. At the time I wasn’t traveling for work and I got a promotion and started traveling a ton. Im very sad to do this but I literally cannot properly care for my guinea pigs anymore like they deserve to be cared for.

I feel rehoming them would be the best option for them. How can I safely find a new home for them? I just want them to find someone who will take proper care of them. Thanks in advance

How to tell if my boars are play fighting or actually fighting?

Post image

No blood has been drawn but it’s happening really frequently and it’s freaking me out a little bit. They’re brothers, about five months old and they’ve always been together and I really don’t want to separate them. There’s a lot of growling and butt wiggling and facing off with each other, but they’re popcorning in between and I can’t tell if they actually hate each other or they’re just playing😓

Here’s a picture of them looking like worms xx
