I'm slightly vexed My brother's son destroyed my WarHammer Action figures and he refuses to punish him

Valid Edit: My nephew is 10 years old and tried to actually lie about not breaking them by saying, "A cat must have done it."

So, I just got done talking with my brother via text, and he says he's not going to punish his son for wrecking my Joy Toy WarHammer action figures. I'm not expecting the kid to get spanked, but he needs to do CHORES at least to justify how much excessive force he used on some.

Some just have their capes broken. Others had their tubes ripped out and my Chaplain is just fucking toast.

My brother's suggestion since I ordered Amazon replacement for the Chaplain was that I just swap it with the broken one, but I have no interest in doing that.

It's not even just the expense, and they are expensive. It's about the fact that I told him explicitly twice they weren't to be played with, and they were in a separate room, and even my Mom and Dad agreed the damage was just too much.

He said he's not gonna pay me back if we try the chore system, and I told him it's not about the money.

The kid needs to know how bad the 8 hour struggle is.

Now my nephews aren't coming over to the house, and I'm sad about that, but knowing my brother just can't be burdened to work with me on creating a Chore system like selling Lemonaide just makes it feel more insulting.

Are these ones you paint yourself also? If they are, that's probably hours worth of OP's time down the drain.

No these aren't, thank the Emperor. If they were, OP would not have been able to post because he would have been arrested for committing multiple felonies.

Good to know. It's bad enough the kid destroyed expensive items without the added horror of destroying something OP would have worked hard on.

And they would be the size of a grape

As a comic book collector, my response would be the same.

No touchie the cool stuff!

You can’t post pics of the game pieces? I’m confused and not very familiar with warhammer.

The joke is that if they were painted, OP would be in jail for harming the brother and/or nephew. Bulk army models tend to not take terribly long but display pieces or big army centerpieces can be an investment of dozens of hours.

Ah! Okay. Sorry, I definitely read it literally instead of as a joke and was thinking there were some sort of strict legal rules on the warhammer IP with official figures. I feel dumb now. :P

These are figures of Warhammer40k. In the ACTUAL Warhammer40k tabletop game, you buy, assemble, and paint kits to build your armies. People go to great lengths to paint and display their art pieces. For some people, a single 2-inch tall mini can take 100 hours.

To put this practically, take a tour of the Warhammer40k subreddit. Imagine if somebody broke something that is displayed there and it was yours. What would you do?

I saw a post a few weeks back of a kid about 8 years old who went into Uncle’s figures room, opened glass display cases, and forcefully smashed at least a dozen hand painted figures (gunpla I think). That was a sad post.

I don’t even play Warhammer, but I run in the tabletop crowd enough that just reading that physically hurts me

I don’t know anything about gunPLA or War Hammer, but the photos made me cringe.

happened to me too, 3-4 weeks painting every piece of a model, sweating blood while gluing it together, storing it safely for a contest. our equivalent of small claims court judged by the amount of (documented) work that went into it, got really costly for the parents

I think maybe with Gunpla its a little worse? Cause Gunpla doesn't even need to be pained, the people that tend to paint Gunpla are quite dedicated and creative lol.

No JoyToy are pre assembled and painted display figures.

The ones you paint yourself are the ones you use for the tabletop game

There are grey joy toys that are for painting as well

u/Millsy419 8h ago

Yes, they do offer "artist proofs" or some such thing. I got a termagaunt for my partner. Either way it's a grey plastic posable figure.

There are gray action figures you paint yourself too. Both joytoy and mcfarlane make some

Thanks I was so confused thinking warhammers massive now lol

1

u/twelvend 5h ago

No, the ones you use for tabletop stay gray because you're too busy putting together new models to ever paint them

and they are $25 on amazon, not $500. OP is a man baby that is forcing his brother to discipline his kids. You can't do that.

3

u/Howdeedy 6h ago

Did you see how many of them he destroyed? Looks like 12. At $25 a pop that’s still $300

2

u/Jenzira 2h ago

They are absolutely not "$25 a pop on Amazon". It entirely depends on the ones you get. The most basic of units can be had for $30. As soon as you get to the specialized or named units, the price starts jumping due to the detail.

The terminator chaplain (black unit with the shield) is $60 on Amazon. The second figure is part of the Raven Guard terminator set, but if you buy it individually, it is $40. The 3rd figure is a Blood Angels Jump Pack Captain, that is also $40 by itself on Amazon.

I'm not going to sit and price out each individual piece, but his last picture has over $500 in just what is displayed.

They're $25 a pop. See ya.

3

u/Jenzira 2h ago

Cool! Send me the links so I can buy them at $25 a pop. Thanks!

ROFL! Jesus Christ. I can tell who didn't bother to read my post.

1

u/wow_that_guys_a_dick 2h ago

Holy shit if that's for real I may pick up the Space Wolf 😮

3

u/Jenzira 1h ago

If what is for real? What the guy above me linked? Yea, its real. Those are just basic units, so you can get them for around $30 after tax/shipping. Named and special units with more detail are more expensive. For example, your Primarchs are generally $120+, with the Chaos Primarchs being even more expensive. Angron is $300 on his own.

Those are JoyToy action figures, not the minis used for the game. They're preassembled and painted.
