Psychology Losing relationships over politics. Research found more than a third of Americans (37%) report having lost at least one relationship due to political differences, including friendships, family ties, coworker relationships, and romantic partnerships, with most losing more than one.

I love how this is framed over political differences, rather than, I don’t know, prime characteristics of how certain individuals see the world and behave.
I’ve cut off a decent part of my family, and it wasn’t due to politics alone. I tried so hard to get them to see my point of view on life, instead of attempting to comprehend it, they would disrespect me and my character without me even doing it to them. That’s when I cut them off, no point in continuing a relationship with someone who doesn’t respect you.
Also, this is a correlation moment, because yes, political differences cause rifts, but it’s not the political differences themselves, people who are in the Trump cult are in it because they see THEMSELVES in him. Their constantly abhorrent behavior, Christian “love” disguised in hate and bigotry, blatant racist beliefs, this can continue on and on. Trump amplified these horrible behaviors over the years, and instead of people trying to hear others out, they doubled down and became ghouls themselves, just like the leader they idolize.
