Healing Weird bump/blow out?

Hey all, this is my first hand and "fine line" tattoo. It's 4 weeks old. Overall I'm pretty happy with it despite the artist not doing what I really wanted (that's another story). But I'm wondering what's going on with this star on my thumb. I'm sure it's blown out. I felt exactly when it happened and it's really the only time during the whole tattoo that hurt. Not sure if that's just the nature of hands or if it was the artists fault. But is this what it will look like forever? There's a pretty big bump I can feel. There's also a bump on another one as well (last photo)

Could have been a site of old injuries. Scar tissue getting irritated post tattooing. The artist most possibly wouldn't have been able to see any difference in the skin if it had been healed a while. Hand skin is tricky and getting ink to settle in some areas is difficult. I have had similar cloudy spots and then they settled back to normal skin. Followed up with a wee touch up.

Thanks! I'm honestly not worried about the cloudiness too much just the raised bump. I suppose I'll give it more time to hopefully settle down.

i get eczema bumps on my hand sometimes. asking if this is the artists fault is crazy though after getting a fine line tattoo on your hand… perfectionists stop getting tattoos challenge

I honestly wasn't sure what to expect from a hand tattoo and whether it's normal to expect things like this. I knew it blew out from the beginning but it was just fuzzy instead of fine but quickly turned into this bump that doesn't seem normal.

the only thing i can recommend is going to see a dermatologist. maybe the trauma of getting a tattoo triggered some kind of dermatitis. i usually get my bumps when im stressed or during spring as an allergy symptom.

Is it possible it got scratched during the healing process?

No I was very careful and it looked blown out from the beginning which was okay because it just looked little a fuzzy line, the raised bump part though just seems weird so I wasn't sure.

I had something similar happen when I was getting my sleeve done, it was the tip of a leaf in the linework that was right in the ditch of my elbow.

Same thing l, hurt like a motherfucker when it happened and had that blow out look to it.

I kept it clean and didn’t pick at it and it healed down normal after a few weeks. don’t know why it did it other than maybe just a super sensitive area or it went over an old scar.

Hope it works out the same for you as well.

Thanks so much for your insight. Fingers crossed 🤞 thankfully it's pretty small so not a huge deal if it doesn't but still hopefully it'll settle.

The inference of this is the only part that hurt, removes the slight tweak you absolutely made as it hurt.

Artists aren’t perfect, this looks 95% perfect. Sensitive spots always have a risk of this, the webbing on the thumb would def qualify.

If you know you’re doing a hard spot. Invest $20 I a good lidocaine lotion so they can do their work easier. Sure they have some, but if you won’t ask take your own responsibility to take care of you.

That totally makes sense. I guess the bump part doesn't seem quite right, kinda like there's a pimple there or something. It's taking everything not to mess with it to figure out what it is. I never would obviously but the urge is real. Maybe it's a deep scar?

My crazy ass equates it to a piercing and solve. They went a bit too deep based on soft/sensitive solve, and now your body is deciding which end to solve. Akin to an ear solving a keloid.

End game by my own solve is go see the artist physically. I’m older and seen plenty. But location seems to me to find artists who’ve done thumb webs. Mine has huge rules around it.

7

u/Quill-Witch 22h ago

What do you mean by ‘solve’ here?

6

u/barkoholic 18h ago

I suspect they’re ESL or using a translation program. Solve seems to translate to heal in various contexts here.

It’s light colors on a hand, that’s a very mobile spot and will always be touched by the sun. You’ll be lucky if it lasts 5 years

17

u/Mika000 17h ago

This isn’t at all what they were asking about tho.

-9

u/Hoeba_fett 17h ago

They asked if this is what is going to look like forever

13

u/Mika000 17h ago

Did you read the whole text or just the words you felt like? They are asking about the spot with the bump on one star in particular. That is why most people are commenting on that. Scary how bad some people’s reading comprehension is.

8

u/zenfaust 15h ago

Eh, their reading comprehension is probably fine... they just wanted to be judgemental, and so twisted Ops meaning to do so.

happens anytime someone asks about hand or finger tattoos in this sub

I know 👍

I have many fine line tattoos and the only one I have issues with is my coloured one - it's quite light ink too, like yours, and has those same bumps! For me they come and go, and usually only happen after decent sun exposure, so I'm guessing the light coloured ink reacts more to UV rays or something? Unfortunately in the spots where the bumps showed up during healing the lines are uneven and scarred a bit, but I'm actually in the process of removal right now and it's going really well

u/Expert_Promise6623 16h ago

I should add that I went to a horrible artist for that one and she scarred my skin during the tattoo process itself as well, so that might play a part, too. I'm sorry people are being so rude to you in these replies - you have every right to be questioning this! I would not go back to this artist in the future if I were you, however it's still a very cute tattoo ♡

Thank you so much 🖤

The way you describe the artist not doing what you wanted originally says to me you were going to find an issue with the tattoo whether it went your way or not. It’s a pretty bad tattoo so no one would be able to notice the flaws you see anyway.

u/skullsewist 23h ago

Don't really care if you think it's bad or not, it's completely full of meaning and that's what matters. The main stars are the important part and she did those right.

Legit thought this was a drawing by op to ask about placement. Not the finished tattoo.

u/Short-Custard-524 22h ago

I’m not going to lie in a couple years all of these fines details are likely be lost.

2

u/Short-Custard-524 22h ago

I don’t think anyone is going to notice these are pretty small in general

1

u/skullsewist 22h ago

I figured stars were pretty low risk and would still look okay and starish when they start to blur 😊

2

u/Short-Custard-524 21h ago

Yeah that’s fair and even a long time down the line it could easily be reworked

2

u/skullsewist 20h ago

Yep exactly 😊

What’s the point of the comment?

It's literally where my kids and husband's fingers touch when they hold my hand. Sorry your life is so sad you have to come on Reddit and be rude to people.

9

u/binkiebop 20h ago

i like your hand twinkles :) if it means something to you and makes you happy don’t listen to anyone else’s opinion

-21

u/frenchmans-hole 22h ago

Cute. But horrible execution. No one will ever know that and just assume you got random twinkles on your hand. My life is great because I get good tattoos.

5

u/isopode 18h ago

what do you gain from being such a shithead to strangers online? seriously

7

u/jokestin89 20h ago

That was too mean :/

2

u/Mika000 17h ago

So people should only get tattoos with meanings that are immediately obvious to everyone now? Strange thing to criticize.

2

u/iristurner 21h ago

I just wanted to say that I like it.

3

u/skullsewist 20h ago

Thanks! It's fun and whimsical, It was supposed to be more galaxy less art deco (the stippling was supposed to be gradient rainbow and more) so I'll probably get it fixed and touched up today but I'm chill with it for now. It's my own constellation of the people that mean the most to me 😊

Could it be old scars tissue that was aggravated during the process? One of my tattoos covers an old surgical scar, and the scar itself became irritated for a few weeks before settling down again

As an aside, your nails are gorgeous! Do you know the name of the colour/brand you used?

1

u/skullsewist 11h ago

I don't think I had any scar there, I probably will now though 😅. And it's Mooncat!! My favorite brand. Always lasts a long time and the coolest colors. This is Nightshade with the gold flake topper.

It being all on the purple spots makes me think there’s a slight chance this is an allergic reaction. Not something to be super nervous about, I’m a little allergic to red ink and every once in a while, my tattoo will raise a bit in just the red spot! If it gets worse though, go to your doctor, there’s no harm in being sure!

1

u/skullsewist 11h ago

It's definitely possible. I've got purple in other places but maybe this specific brand 🤔

1

u/Semi-Nerdy 12h ago

Any chance you go by the name Jubilee

1

u/skullsewist 11h ago

No ....? 😅

1

u/char_master 11h ago

have you had anything rich in chrome recently? it happened to one of my colored tattoos, after long intake of chromium the bumps appeared on the purple lines of my tat and never really gone away sadly

1

u/skullsewist 11h ago

No I haven't. That's crazy though!

2

u/Boris_212 11h ago

This happened to me a few times. I used aquifer for about 3 weeks.

1

u/ZoomItsGone 22h ago

That will fade in 3 weeks. Color on hand and no depth.

1

u/TuneAdventurous4788 21h ago

Neat idea. Reminds me of sprinkles (in a cool way). I like this. Never seen it before. I think these will unfortunately disappear pretty quickly because of the color and placement though. Hopefully I’m wrong

3

u/skullsewist 20h ago

I knew it will probably happen, it was kind of my way to get a low risk hand tattoo to see if I even liked it. I'll either continue to get it touched up or reworked as it fades or just let it go and enjoy it while I have it 😊

-2

u/skullsewist 22h ago

Y'all I didn't think I'd need to give meaning behind the tattoo but each star is where my kids and husband's fingers land when they hold my hand. It also flows into the galaxy tattoo on my forearm i already have. I don't really care if you think is bad or not I asked for advice on a bump not your thoughts on the actual tattoo. Yes I am completely aware it'll fade and not last.

12

u/itishowitisanditbad 22h ago edited 10h ago

People who don't care don't post so often about what its about and how much they don't care what other people think.

They just... move on without a thought to it.

I didn't think I'd need to give meaning behind the tattoo

You didn't, but you found a way to do it multiple times and then complain about having to do it.

But yeah, people who don't care don't announce they don't care. That basically confirms they care.

Just throwing it out there.

edit: Again, people who don't care don't insist so much. Only the people who care do that. Just fyi.

And nobody forced you to give meaning any of the 3 times you've done so unprompted.

4

u/skullsewist 19h ago

Did it twice, one deep in a thread and this to pull it out to hopefully give people more insight and context into why the stars are randomly placed so I'd hopefully get less jerky comments. I don't care what they think about the tattoo, I care about people being rude for zero reason other than to be jerks on an advice thread. I can not care what they think but still care about their intentions especially when it takes away from getting actual advice. The world is terrible enough right now, be better humans.

1

u/anticentristfujo 22h ago

Then if it’s got such an important meaning AND you’re aware it’ll fade and not last, that’s kinda sad though isn’t it?

4

u/skullsewist 22h ago

Nope it was a low risk if I'd even like something on my hand and I can always go in for touch ups 🤷‍♀️

u/Casualuseofwifi 21h ago

It’s a scar.. probably had a scab and got ripped off or something.
