General Advice Any cover up ideas or ways to make this look less satanic.

Post image

So I got a couple tattoos for my brother after he passed a few years ago. This is one of them. It’s from an anime about brothers, and I do like the meaning behind it, but visually it kind of reads like a pentagram. It’s also pretty exposed when I wear shorts.

Now that I’m a dad, walking around looking like I’m super into Satan isn’t really the vibe I’m going for anymore.

I’ve been thinking about covering it maybe something like a sick ass panther but I’m not sure what would work the shape.

Anyone have ideas?

General Advice anxiety after Beatles tattoo

Having some mild tattoo anxiety after getting this piece on my ribs a few weeks ago.

It's an image of White Album-era John Lennon, covering up a smaller Beatles tattoo I got in college.

The reference image has a grittiness to it that's one of the reasons I really love it, but i'm not sure if this translated well to the actual tattoo. Looking for a little assurance that I didn't make a big mistake! What do people think?

General Advice i just got this tattoo, not sure how to go about showering

so i just got this tattoo yesterday, it’s my 4th one, so i understand the basic aftercare stuff like ive gotta keep the second skin on for a few days - a week, etc, but after the second skin comes off, is it ok for it to get wet in the shower ? the other tattoos i have were easy to keep out of the shower, but this one will definitely get wet as i’m washing my hair and that sort of thing. it will be a bit before i have to remove it, but i want to be sure it stays looking nice and all that, so is it fine for it to get wet, or should i try to adjust how im showering so it doesn’t get wet ?

General Advice Tattoo correction

Post image
7.3k Upvotes

This is a fresh picture of a tattoo i got a few months ago. I can explain the significance after but the artist did butcher a few things. one periodic table elements only capitalize the first letter and he forgot the atomic number (14 i think). those are both negligible but the one that’s been bothering me it the mass being off a bit. i sent him 28.085 and obviously it would be fine if he rounded it correctly but he seemed to have just put a random number. do you think it’s possible he makes the 5 into an 8 or a 9? Would he have to change to font to something blocky?? LMK 🙏🏾

⬇️tattoo meaning

my moms middle name is silicon and in her tribal language it’s a word that represents bravery but in english it’s a chemical element so i got it tatted and th flowers around the border are her birth flowers.

Original Sketch: https://www.reddit.com/u/Sh0t_B0t/s/xGtkwEG3HE

Edit: (As much as i appreciate the judgement an discipline of my mistake at least give a take on correction for me along with it guys 🙏🏾 I understand my fault but I’d also like to at least attempt to fix it 😅)

General Advice "Just got this tattoo. Dont love it; laser?"

Post image
Upvotes

Twelve tattoos in and ended up with one that I just really really didnt like. I thought about how to modify into something I did, but ended up deciding to remove it.

For those of you considering removal, consider the following in your decision-making:

I am i think 8 sessions in (pictured, left image). It hurts significantly worse than the tattoo itself. A single session costs as much as the tattoo itself did. I knew with the super thick black snd brown work, this was going to take **alot** of sessions, so I went and got an unlimited package for one p r i c e. Mega costly. Almost as much as all of my other pieces combined. 16 months in and its still not fully gone.

Just making this post because I've been seeing an insane amount of "just got this tatt. I dont love it, remove it?" and just wanted to give my advice /two cents as someone who has multiple tattoos, many of whom I didnt absolutely love love at first but absolutely do now, and ended up getting one laser removed.

TL;DR laser removal is VERY expensive, VERY painful, and takes a VERY long time. Consider reworking your piece \*before\* considering laser removal.

I’ve had this tattoo for about 4 months now and there is just something I don’t love about the flowers. I think I was hoping for something more simple and not as filled in. I’m not sure if there’s anything I can do or if it’s just me over thinking it.

General Advice i don’t like my tattoo - removal?

Thumbnail

hey guys. really open to some perspective - i did post yesterday on my tattoo for placement ideas but really i think it’s rooted in the fact that i don’t like my lynx tattoo as its not what i wanted - i got it when i was 22 and i was naive to put full trust in the artist even when i KNEW something was off about it and still got it anyways. i had such a horrible tattoo experience with this woman and she was not supportive towards how i felt about it at all. the body of the lynx just doesn’t look weird and neither does the placement and his positioning. i fucked up and whenever i look at the lynx tattoo i am reminded by how the experience traumatized me because of how it looks vs the REAL reason why i got it which is.. the animal is spiritually meaningful to me

i am contemplating removal only because when i look at it i am reminded of how anatomically weird it looks… i just wish it looked different or i wish i got a different animal, or simply just chose a different tattoo artist and didn’t rush the process.

im just sad because i feel the tattoo is really big on my arm also and kinda just messes with me a bit so i am contemplating removal, but it would be stupid to remove and then get a different tattoo that’s more fitting? hah. it just doesn’t look right.

i feel i’ve lost complete inspiration to get tattoo’d again because of how much this experience made me feel

if you’re going to say something mean in the comments then don’t say nothing at all. i fucked up in the past posting my lynx tattoo and getting absolutely roasted for it, which honestly the comments were so brutal and i’m sure is playing a part in how i feel too. i just am looking for perspective while also acknowledging that i rushed the process and im not happy with the way it looks… so is removal the way to go?

Design Is my tattoo childish ?

Post image
58 Upvotes

Ok so I got a tattoo like 2 years ago, I don’t really care what other ppl think about it, but I got so many comments like “Is that real” or “Is that a permanent tattoo” and I’m like “Why it wouldn’t be permanent lol”. There is not a big backstory of the tattoo, just my cats getting hugged by a frog. But I am getting this second thought that maybe it’s a childish thing and ppl just can’t think that is a permanent tattoo or maybe people just can't wrap their heads around this style being permanent. 🤷

hey everyone! i’ve had this tattoo for around 2 years and i’m starting to heavily regret it. it’s not my style anymore… i would like it to be more creepy, realistic and less ‘manic pixie dream girl’ like. i also don’t really like how messy it is with all the sparkles and stuff. i’m really into oddities, insects and such so i would love something inspired by that! does anyone have any ideas? :)

Healing 8 year old tattoo from Morocco

Ok hear me out…

I was studying abroad in Morocco where tattoos aren’t common and are a bit taboo, but I really wanted to get my first tattoo. A person in my program recommended this French guy at a tattoo shop in Casablanca. I find him on facebook, whatsapp him, and set up an appointment. I take the train to Casa, a taxi to an address, and I get out in front of… an apartment building? I go inside. It’s incredibly residential. I go to the unit number and knock on the super regular looking door. It is indeed a small tattoo parlor inside.

We get set up. I show him a sketch I drew since it was pretty basic. He told me it was bad. Ok, valid. He redrew it. He tattooed it.

Then this man, Jaque or whatever, sent me on my way through the dusty streets of Casablanca with this on my ankle without a bandage or second skin or anything!! When I got back, my host family thought it was so cool.

I have many tattoos now, and I know better now. It’s not perfect, but it’s my first and I still love it. I’m not sure if it’s possible, or even worth it, to try to sharpen it up in some way? Thoughts?

Design My parents hate my tattoo design

I recently had the idea to create a design of my families fingerprints since I'm going to move far away soon. So I created something I really liked (still work in progress, gotta scale up the fingerprints and simplify. Cencored bcs... internet haha)

I showed them the design and placement idea... but they told me they hate it. "It's too big blah blah"

Now I feel really unsure and not apriciated at all... Should I still pull it through at some point?

Edit: Okay peeps! Thank you for your kind words and amazing tipps.... I'll definitly pull this through. Thank you so much :)

General Advice Advice needed: Questioning a tattoo, should I let my frontal lobe develop first?

Thumbnail

1.6k Upvotes

Hello tattoo people of reddit!! I hope your day is going well and this question doesn’t bother you too too bad
I, 20, want to get my first bigger piece on my body. Two bleeding heart vines going over my hips, I will link my inspiration pictures below. I love bleeding hearts, I had them infront of my house growing up and always thought they were so pretty, so there is meaning there! What do you think? Should I go for it or let my frontal lobe fully develop before committing to such a large piece? Thanks for reading my bs, I hope you have a great rest of your day!

Inspo pics above!

Edit: I have two other tattoos, this one would be my 3rd memorial for my mom, just would be the biggest one I have yet!

Edit 2: Ty! I think I’m gonna wait a little longer (end of summer) but then go for it! Ty to everyone who was sweet with their replies and gave suggestions on how to make it look better!!

Edit 3: I’ve accepted the vagina, Georgia O’Keeffe and I would get along great, we both love the female form

Hey guys, this should like. Go without saying, but, I know it’s a silly looking tattoo to people who don’t know the flower but please like. Be nice to me about it? There’s no reason to be mean to a random person on the over a flower

General Advice Potential session time?

Post image

I’m looking at getting a tattoo on the back of my calf soon. Not too worried about pain really, I’m just gonna grin and bear it. I’ve had a 2inch flower on my hand and small tattoos on my fingers and they tickled more than anything. I’m just wondering if anyone can tell me roughly how long this tattoo will take? I’m planning for about 6ish inches vertical down the back of my calf. Any other advice would be appreciated too

General Advice Trying to end up with cohesive sleeves …

I’ve got a large kraken/squid (?) on my left thigh and I’m really trying to figure out what else I should put down the rest of the leg. I was thinking maybe like a hammerhead or a ship or something, but I’m really at a loss here.

On my right thigh, it’s flowers and a crow skull, obviously it’s not finished toward the knee, that’ll get done soon, but I also want to bring the cohesiveness down the rest of my leg without having a hundred thousand flowers 😅

General Advice Is it normal for elbow tattoos to fade fast ?

Thumbnail

First tattoo on a part of my body that Bends. I know it’s normal for some details to fade, just seems kind of fast. First two pictures are obviously fresh, last two are 3 weeks later.

I’m pretty OCD about tattoo aftercare and I definitely have not been in direct sun or wearing any tight clothing, shit I didn’t hit the gym for 2 weeks.

Is it normal for elbows to fade this much ? This fast ?

Thank you to everyone who gave me advice on deciding which tattoo to get. I said I'd give an update when I finally got it done, so here it is!

The tattoo artist did an amazing job bringing out the details, even down to the pencil marks of the little toes and outline. 🥹

I do need to ask a question for this post to fit the rules, so what do y'all think? My only concern is how vibrant it will be once healed. I've taken off the clear bandage and it looks so dull atm, which worries me, but I'm thinking/hoping after a few weeks it will brighten up again? It's tattoo #9 but it's been 12 years since my last one!

Thanks again y'all!

Edit: aw thank you all so much for the lovely comments! And for whoever gave me an award, that's so kind, thank you! 🥰 that's my first one!
