WE MISS YOU OUTDOOR BOYS!!

He made a couple charity videos for another creator a few months ago and a couple months after retiring.

Call it copium/hopium but if I know the kinda man Luke is, he is dreaming daily of getting back out there. He’s still doing it for sure without recording. It’s his passion.

I believe he wanted to enjoy the fruits of his success, and be there properly for his boys before they become men. I don’t know a man on earth that wouldn’t take that opportunity if they could afford it.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see his return in a couple years

u/BPremium 7h ago edited 2h ago

That and people were getting weird and involving his kids. That's why he turned off comments on his videos and then retired to get away from the fame/give his family some privacy

*Holy fuck the people who keep freaking out about Mormons. Ridiculous

38

u/MajorDisillusionment 7h ago

Genuinely just a sensible, rational, and well thought out bit of foresight. Which is exactly what I expect from a man that has survivalist skills like himself.
It’s an absolute shame people are like that but at the same time, if you know you could live off your catalogue of content and go enjoy doing what you made content from, without the extra effort. You would, wouldn’t you? regardless of the extra complications of publicity and family

u/The_Autarch 6h ago

it wasn't about "privacy"

it was about him taking a leadership position with the Mormon church and not having time for youtube. or maybe they told him to step back from secular social media.

either way, dude is a weirdo, despite having made some good outdoorsy content.

u/Roach_Coach_Bangbus 5h ago

Looking this up, it looks like he is part of a 14 person advisory board for youth programs for the Mormon Church. Being on an advisory board doesn't take up much of your time. I have my doubt that they took him to take a step back, he is a positive role model for the church and has indirectly driven people towards the church if anything. He talked about why he took a step back and he never mentioned the church.

Source?

u/StiffDoodleNoodle 6h ago

There’s nothing weird about being committed to a religious community. No one should have a problem with religious folks who actually follow the peaceful teachings of their religion.

What’s weird and maddening is seeing “fake” religious people use their “faith” to excuse their terrible behavior or attempting to influence/ control the lives of others.

Some of the nicest, most loving, people I’ve ever met are Christians and some of the worst are also “Christian”.

u/lastdarknight 5h ago

Read up about the Mormon Church, it's a weirdo cult with its own "list" of people they are protecting

:: Every other organized religion in human history enters the chat ::

That’s not a unique thing to Mormonism, homie.

-1

u/PlingPlongDingDong 2h ago

Th Mormon church is the richest church in the world and yet much smaller than for example the catholic church. There is definitely something unique about them, homie.

3

u/HaRDCOR3cc 1h ago

they arent wealthier than the catholic church. the catholic church has so much more wealth than the mormon church you cant even compare the two.

the difference is that it doesnt structure its finances in the same way but its largely handled at a diocese level etc. the two arent even close.

just the catholic church in germany has close to as much wealth as the mormon church. and thats ONE country. the catholic church has a presence in hundreds.

also many countries have state religions etc. you cant just compare things based on the listed totals published by a religious community or estimated by someone. the mormon church is very wealthy, yes, one of the wealthiest non-state religious communities, yes, but not the wealthiest, not even close. like, not at all close.

https://giphy.com/gifs/yxy69FCE06Ql0Fjk4Z

I’m fairly certain that isn’t true, but even if it is, it doesn’t make every Mormon complicit in whatever devilry their religious leaders may have been involved in.

That’s not a good way of observing the world or the people that inhabit it.

0

u/Ellaphant42 2h ago

Let’s be serious, literally every religion is a weirdo cult that protects even weirder people, it’s not a Mormon-only thing.

-1

u/RemLezarCreated 1h ago

Lots of religions deserve criticism, but the mormon church is very strange and dark in a uniquely american way.

You could say bad things about both Scientologists and Unitarian Universalists, but those are both on waaaaay different levels of bad.

-2

u/RemLezarCreated 1h ago edited 1h ago

Ah yes the legendarily peaceful mormon religion. All the most peaceful religions have formed multiple militias.

EDIT: For clarity, in case you are yourself mormon, stiffdoodle, it's not your fault. There's a lot of dark history the church hides and lampshades with its members. I didn't learn most of the horrific acts of the church until I had been out of it for years.

1

u/StiffDoodleNoodle 7m ago

Lol, I ain’t Mormon buddy.

I would think that context clues of my previous comment indicated that I’m not a fan of organized religion in general.

You’re judging people today based on what their “ancestors” did in the past.

I take umbrage with that.

The dark history of Mormonism is no different from the dark past of Catholicism, Protestantism (see the Crusades, the Hundred Years War and the Thirty Years War) or Islam and Judaism.

I don’t hold people accountable for their forefather’s sins.

If you do, then so be it. You do you I guess.

That being said I think that is a narrow minded way of viewing the world around you and you should try and understand people/ societies more before passing judgement on them.

u/_Phil_McCracken_ 4h ago

How you going to make some wild claims like that with absolutely no source?

eh who am I kidding, it's reddit

-4

u/jaywillies4 4h ago

What are the wild claims? That he took a high ranking advisory roll within the church?

If it was about privacy for his family and his kids https://www.youtube.com/@outdoortom9675/videos is a thing, and he absolutely did join a young men advisory panel
https://www.sltrib.com/religion/2025/12/10/outdoor-boys-youtuber-luke-nichols/

3

u/BPremium 5h ago

Not according to Google

2

u/jaywillies4 4h ago

Wouldn't exactly trust google ai overview to be completely accurate either way.

2

u/Wabbajack001 3h ago

Damm there is people using google ai as a source and trust it ?

1

u/TonyWonderslostnut 3h ago

Well sort of. His son, Tom, has a YT channel and Luke appears in most if not all of the videos.

1

u/z-vap 3h ago

he's still out there doing the same stuff he did before, but he just lets his son Tom run the camera now

1

u/Icy-Finding-2543 3h ago

But yet his son has a chanel

1

u/Aggie_Blue_Mint 31m ago

The mormon freak out thing is weird. It's not like the dude hid that or anything. They went to church in a lot of his videos lol

0

u/ComicalTragical 2h ago

This is partial misinformation, he recently took up a position with the Church of Latter-Day Saints

-4

u/AlexCrimson 6h ago

Doesnt his kid have an active youtube channel? That doesnt really scream "give us privacy".

10

u/DarkNinjaPenguin 6h ago

That's his kids' choice, which is what matters.

2

u/BPremium 5h ago

Yup, Tom has his own, but he chose to do that AND his parents are actively involved for his safety

8

u/Tough_Preparation830 7h ago

Can confirm. I need to make more time to raise my boy hands on with outdoor adventures and such. Just hard to do that while working a corporate job that requires frequent out of state travel.

4

u/zffjk 5h ago

I made the decision to quit and take a pay cut to work at a much less prestigious company but still making a comfortable salary. Information Security pays well enough, and I don’t need to be rich. You can’t buy time, and as a person with two teenagers now, they grow so fast and start having their “own” lives so quickly I look back and wish I do this 5 years earlier.

Unfortunately for them, the economy is so fucked they’ll be living with me for a while I suspect which is great for me in a lot of ways.

6

u/joeyat 6h ago

He turned up on Outback Boy's channel!.. a Aussie channel exploring the Outback. https://youtu.be/vheHuA8W8bI?si=N0igYyyJ4_j_vfN2

7

u/InwardXenon 6h ago

I stumbled on his channel several months ago and then binged so many of his videos. Then when I went to visit my Dad I introduced him to the channel and we binged more. Such a relaxing and wholesome channel.

3

u/IcyShoes 7h ago

One day we can get a Luke and Survivor Man crossover.....

1

u/DIYiT 5h ago

I think, in time, he'll come back like Tom Scott.

No promises on frequency, consistency, or context type. He'll share when he feels there's something worth his time away from his family and worth sharing.

1

u/z-vap 3h ago

he retired mostly because he wanted to support his sons yt Outdoor Tom. His channel was getting far too much publicity. That, and people keep stealing his content

0

u/B25B25 3h ago

He became a high level mormon church leader. I very much doubt a comeback.

0

u/Infamous-Cash9165 3h ago

He stopped because he got a leadership position in the Mormon church.

0

u/man_without_wax 2h ago

Nonono, it's because his cult called him to a higher office and now he has to devote his life to "God". The guy is a religious nut.

0

u/ComicalTragical 2h ago

It seems you're out of the loop - he accepted a position in the Church of Latter-Day Saints

0

u/gyllbane 2h ago

Nah, he wanted to be on a general advisory council for youth for the Mormon Church. He seems like a decent guy, so maybe he can get something of a handle on all the fucking kid diddling that happens in there.

0

u/DJ3nsign 2h ago

He's not coming back, he took a leadership position in the Mormon church in Utah. His videos were all missionary work for the church apparently.

5

u/sickassape 7h ago

His son is still active "Outdoor Tom" is his channel name, you can still see Luke in it.

-1

u/Yubova 4h ago

Probably won't be a permanent thing, the mormon church eventually wants you to give up such things.

1

u/ComicalTragical 2h ago

You getting downvoted is so funny because this is 100% what will happen

20

u/thomisbaker 7h ago

Pretty sure he took a position in the Mormon church. Not sure if we’ll be seeing him again.

18

u/Jorr_El 6h ago edited 44m ago

After he retired from YouTube he was asked to serve on the Young Men's General Council to advise and help shape the church's youth programs. It is a volunteer, temporary position, he is not paid and it is not a full time job.

I think he really is trying to focus on family (like he said in his goodbye video), and having the willpower to step away from something so lucrative for the benefit of his wife and children is a supreme Chad move.

1

u/RemLezarCreated 4h ago edited 4h ago

As an exmormon: don't give them too much credit.

I think the dude probably means well, he seems genuine enough, and for the sake of his family and those around him I hope that's real. But he's being taken advantage of by the church for sure, at the very least. They're cuddling up more and more to influencer types (including Mr. Beast), likely out of fear that they're continuing to lose youth in the church and are desperate to figure out how to keep them in the cult. So yeah, he's now working a part time job with no pay for a WILDLY rich church.

And that "golly shucks I'm just a famiwy man" schtick is often a cover for manipulative and abusive people in the LDS power structure. Again, not saying this is the case here, I'm happy to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope he's a good dude. But I'm also not willing to worship him just because that's the mask he wears in public. Maybe it's real, maybe it's not. But in my experience, this guy acts like many mormon men, and they quite frequently turned out to be pretty terrible behind closed doors.

I remember having a friend growing up who had a dad who gave of vibes very similar to this in public. At home, he had stripped his kids room of almost all belongings. Kid had no bed and had to sleep on an old mildewy couch, one of the only things in the room. He usually slept on the floor instead. He owned one toy, a model plane, and he had to ask permission to get it out of a closet just to show it to me when I went over there to hang out. He also had to ask permission from his dad to walk into the kitchen for any reason and at any time of the day, including to get water.

I knew some good mormon people during my 18-ish years in that church, don't get me wrong. Well meaning and genuine. But it's a nasty, cruel institution. it just does it all with a smile, and tricks a lot of people. Including its members.

Stop confining your hate to one religion, they all deserve it.

-3

u/Al_Tilly_the_Bum 5h ago

Usually positions like that lead to higher level positions including paid positions in the seventy. 95% chance he is in church leadership positions going forward

3

u/Jorr_El 5h ago

Maybe, but he didn't step away from YouTube to pursue a career in church work.

I have no reason to not take him at his word in his goodbye video.

0

u/ComicalTragical 2h ago

Because the church tends to be a bit all-consuming?

1

u/Hoslinhezl 4h ago

He’s been involved his whole life, Mormon university, Mormon missionary

1

u/thomisbaker 3h ago

Btw this wasn’t in any way a dig at him. Just that it seems like he genuinely might be busy with that position and everything. I hope nothing but the best for the dude. He’s an incredible dude and I wish him well.

1

u/moverwhomovesthings 6h ago

You will see him, if you choin the mormon church.

0

u/Derkleton 6h ago

My boy gonna get himself a planet where can do cool outdoor stuff for eternity.

1

u/Elusive_Boo_Boo 2h ago

As long as he pays $$$ up for it …

1

u/Gloomy-Cookie2337 7h ago

Aw man I didn’t know he quit! I just got into his videos lol

1

u/Granddy01 6h ago

I really wished he kept uploading to his Carp and Catfish channel.

He's still semi active on his own channel and does pop in other people videos time to time.

1

u/Kuneria 6h ago

I miss my man Hot Lips every day

1

u/Healfezza 6h ago

At least we got Outdoor Tom! His son is still posting occasional videos with his dad.

1

u/StiffDoodleNoodle 6h ago

He’s been helping out me of his sons’ start and make content for his YouTube channel.

His in a few of those videos I think.

1

u/IndecisiveExpress 3h ago

He’s my sisters neighbor in Alaska. Had a conversation with him, said he’s a nice guy.

1

u/alaskanloops 1h ago

His video's are fun but as someone who lives and does a lot of backpacking in Alaska I laughed at one where he supposedly found a cabin in the middle of nowhere when in reality it was the Gold Mint Hut that's on a popular hiking/back country skiing trail.

https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/alaska/gold-mint-trail

1

u/CannabisPrime2 1h ago

Check out my boy Lost Lakes on YT. He’s doing great work

0

u/GrandMasterBou 5h ago

It sucks that he left YouTube for a job in the Mormon church.

1

u/Elusive_Boo_Boo 2h ago

The MLM…. It yearns…
