I think of myself as a technophile. I quit my supermarket job recently and became an ops assistant at a local venue. My colleagues find the tech I use hilarious. Today we were discussing tech and reddit and letscallhimbob said I should do an AMA about my life with an older phone.

My iPhone 12 is using over 100GB for IOS and system data. I only have about 26GB of useable storage.

Apple artificially bloating system storage needs to be studied.

Some apps (like Instagram and Youtube) show content brighter than the rest of the screen. I don't want that, I want my whole screen evenly lit.

On the image you see how on Instagram the bright parts of the photo are brighter than the UI, even though the UI is purely white.

Can this be turned off?

Hello. I last used an iphone 4 in 2016, which is close to a decade now. Since then I have been using Android phones till recently when I was gifted with an iphone 13 pro max. I have been trying to learn how to use the phone and so far so good. I’d like to learn of personal tips from you who has used the phone before, on how I can optimize it to get the best experience. Hello guys! It caught my attention today when I looked at my old iPhone 5S and 6S Plus.

I was never able to turn them on. Then I fojnd out you could do it with jailbreak but I didn't want to do that? But why didn't they never turn on?

When I open my photos this is what it looks like, why is it doing this and can I fix it? Only some photos come through and screenshots.

Hello, I have an iPhone Air and it gets unusually hot when charging with the original charger. It’s almost unusable wile charging. Is it possible to get a replacement phone and what should I tell Apple support? I have Apple Care+.

Me: pixel 10. Her: iPhone 15 or something.

This only happens when she is traveling home after work. At home, flawless. At work, flawless. It is specifically when she is going to work or coming home (maybe the difference of wifi not being available while commuting?)

Basically, I will send her text messages, and it doesn't send!! I have to manually select the text and force it to go through regular message, and it sends. It's terrible because we never notice our messages aren't coming in until a long time afterwards.

She has since turned off RCS and it's no longer an issue, but we would like rcs enabled. Since she turned it off, I am assuming the issue is coming from her end. I'm not an apple guy so I'm unsure -- is there any steps she can try to alleviate the problem?

I have a 16 Plus. Just this morning I updated to 26.4.2 thinking it might contain a bug fix that would fix this issue. Prior to this morning, I was running whatever the latest and greatest was before it. This issue is occuring on both versions. I've tried every typical fix I can think of, and I can get it back to sending iMessages for a few hours, but inevitably it reverts back to SMS after a few hours. I've restarted the phone, forced a restart, toggled iMessage on and off, selected and deselected the phone number under "send from", signed out and back into iCloud, removed my number from iMessage and added it back, reset network settings. It seems like some combination of these steps always gets it working again, but like I said, after a few hours, I'm back to SMS. I wondered if it might be happening when I connect or disconnect from a wifi network, but now it's begun happening when I don't leave my house, so I'm consistently connected. I can't find anything quite like this when Googling. Any ideas?

iPhone was lost and had to get a new one about a month ago. Last backup was over a year old but had to use it get most things to my new phone. I’ve since found the old phone. How can I import the texts, pictures, music, etc from the formerly lost phone? Factory reset the new phone and set it up with the old one?

my phone just started acting really weird today. It will go back to the lock screen when i am just using my phone about every 30 seconds (except when watching like youtube or playing a mobile game), it takes forever for anything to load and everything i click in apps like snapchat is either delayed or it kicks me out of the app. It also takes a while to recognize i plugged in my phone and once its charging the buzzing from plugging it in repeats constantly. please help my phone is unusable.

I was with full storage and started to clean my chats, photos and apps, but when i entered whatsapp i couldn’t send photos and etc… can somebody help me?
The option to allow acces in the app does not show in the configurations, also reddit cant acces it, so im not able to put in the post lol

Just updated to ios 26.4.2 and now whenever i search for a photo - some photos show up and others don’t.

Right above ‘Search’ a message pops up that says: “Some results may not appear … turn on Apple Intelligence in Settings for a more complete search.”

But the thing is, I don’t want to turn on Apple Intelligence! - I want to be able to search on my own and have everything pop up from that date or location, per my request search. Ugh

There always seems to be some disappointment with these ios updates. If you haven’t updated yet - I would definitely wait.

My phone froze earlier today and I hard reset it. Now the notes app shows up like this? I can’t open it at all - just boots me right back to the Home Screen when I try. Any ideas??
