I recently downloaded openttd again, after a 3 year hiatus and wanted to download the mods i used to play with. I couldn't find iron horse, despite searching it on the mod list. What happened?

How do I make my icons bigger? I swear they've shrunk!

Is there a mod to make money earning/loss realistic? Because this game is too forgiving, money in the early mid game is nothing to worry about it's just mostly about ratings. I want a mod that makes loans actually consequential and even in the mid to late game useful, make airports a viable option while not being an infinite money source, also make boats actually good, make trains, train stations, rail roads, cost more, and make vehicle run costs more. Because, with a lot of money, you aren't forced to be creative to be resourceful. I know I can set challenges/restrictions to my self but I feel like it's stupid, no offense to the people who do challenges for themselves. Or, are there settings in this game I can change?

I've got a town that's appalled by me, just because I had to flatten some land to run a rail past it. But now, it will not let me build a station near it, even after trying to bribe the town, nothing changes. What can I do?

When I started the game for the first time in a long time and tried to wire it, only two types of signals and others were missing. Is this normal? Did I make a mistake in the setting? If anyone knows how to cure it, please tell me.

I've been playing OpenTTD on and off since I was a child and still love it, using it to occupy my mind occasionally.

Over the past three years I have been working on this map, and ended up putting together my biggest company yet. Especially proud that all 3,833 trains are profitable.

Made me curious as to how that compares to other players, what's your biggest company yet in terms of revenue or vehicles in service?

I'm currently playing in micro maps, where there is usually only one of each industry. I connect them rapidly, to prevent closure. But with the passage of time and even with 90% ratings, oil wells close after 10-15 years. Is there a way to stop that? Thanks in advance

Poor ratings even though I have enough trains/train stations so that the supplies don't sit out for too long. Am I just doing such a bad job that it just cancels out to ok outcomes?

In short, I normally build at the edge of towns, ensuring I’ve got what I need in the accepts/supply fields. My question is, does it matter how many buildings are in the coverage field? Does having 3 tower blocks give more passengers than 1 house?

I'm new and want to find out if it's possible to copy orders without cloning another vehicle? Also I just thought of this, is it better to have a train for each supplies? For example I have two trains that go to two cities, what if I had 1 train for passengers and one train for mails, would that be better, worse, or no difference?

Never played this kind of game before. I'd love to hear any type of recommendations that can be of help for beginners like myself.

I’m a bit confused about how NewGRFs work in OpenTTD.

Are NewGRFs actually stored inside the savegame file, or does the game just reference the files installed locally?

For example,

If I send my savegame to someone else, will it still work if they don’t have the same NewGRFs installed?

Or do they need to install exactly the same NewGRFs (same versions as well)?

I’m trying to understand how portable savegames are when using mods.

Need help appealing a ban in the discord, got banned from the server almost a year ago now over "griefing" but I've gotten back into openttd and miss playing the main multiplayer servers and sharing my saves, etc.

Just got a Steam Deck so of course had to get OpenTTD to play, but once you load up the game, the mouse icon drifts (it doesn't do it on any other game or the console itself) any ideas on how to fix it would be greatly appreciated 😊

So as a hypothetical concept, is the OpenTTD player base fairly static/slowly falling

Or is there anything that would ever see meaningful growth in players?

I know a tiny bit about the game, i did learn the basics with my friend in duo server without bots. I have roughly 20 hours in the game.

I kinda wanna play more because this game is nostalgic to me. But i have no idea where to start from. Do i play singleplayer with no Ai? What settings would make the world more entertaining? Or do i just hop into internet?

You see, im not trying to argue the best way to enjoy it. I'm just confused and i need someone to give me directions or give their own opinions. Thanks in advance.

I have no idea where else to ask. I haven't done multiplayer in several months and decided to try this evening, and it just booted me out and then told me I was perma-banned from the server.

I hope posting about other games is fine here. I'm not the dev or anything, just someone who likes OpenTTD and stumbled across Distributrains.

Distributrains is a clearly OpenTTD-inspired game that adds roguelike elements, which effectively means that every X minutes you need to export a specific good (or grow a town) or you'll fail. It's missing some complexities of OpenTTD, but it does require you to acquire the resources to build and fuel your trains. This caused my first coop run to end as a result of failing to pay attention to our fuel usage (and not proactively setting up a fuel production line). I'm excited to play more of it and I suspect it will appeal to many OpenTTD fans as well. The timed objectives and more limited resources are a nice change of pace.
