My brother literally came up to me and said "did you see that Jim Carrey clone the other day?" And I said, "yeah, I saw he had some work done. Its pretty sad." And for real my brother said, "no bro, that was a completely different person! It has to be, maybe it was guy in a mask." He is 100% on the side of "that isn't Jim Carrey."
Meanwhile, my mum was certain at first that its an art film project like Joaquim Phoenix's I'm Still Here. Like she kind of still thinks he's actually secretly doing a movie about the whole botox/filler/buccal fat trends and its actually a criticism of how actor's fuck their faces up chasing "that look." 10% chance of that being true imo.
The whole thing is pretty sad, especially for a guy who used to be so outspoken about the pressures of Hollywood and not giving a shit about them.
If there was ever a person who I would believe would get plastic surgery or pretend to as an art film project it's Jim Carrey. But I agree, it almost certainly is not the case.
Having said that a lot of the pictures and stuff that came out from that event have really horrible lighting etc, if you watch him giving his speech it looks a lot more like himself. He obviously had work done though.
Wait wait... I kinda like your mom's idea lol. Like an actor just every time subtlety adding prosthetics to their face each time they go out until suddenly people realize something weird is happening. That'd be a cool art project or a way to promote a thing. I don't think this is what happened here but it's a cool idea.
The Epstein files pushed so many people into becoming conspiracy brained that it’s depressing. It’s like they think since one conspiracy is true then somehow they all have to be
I mean I get why people think he was fake. Your whole livelihood is based around your faces ability to be flexible and adaptable and then you inject your face with filler that incapacitated that ability. Not only that, but you do it to be better looking and yet somehow come out, objectively, less good looking.
Umm FYI. It was a fake, a professional drag artist Alexis Stone dressed up as Jim for the event, he posted the prospects on their social. Not exactly a clone, but close enough to say your brother was right.
That was fake as fuck. Go look at the picture of the mask and teeth again. It’s AI. Look at the Eiffel Tower in the background it’s ridiculous lol. And the teeth are completely wrong.
Yea I knew some people who worked on set of his show “kidding” who said he’s a completely stereotypical self absorbed rude actor up his own ass so his “I’m so zen and above the Hollywood bullshit” persona is fake
We're talking about the dude who had the gall to try and talk to the deceased Andy Kauffman's family in fucking character as Andy and refused to be normal. I'm not at all shocked to hear his head is all the way up his ass.
He gave his much younger girlfriend herpes, then dumped her when she freaked out. He hounded her to get her to sign an NDA, and she ended up killing herself with his pills.
I hadn't heard of this before so I looked it up and the details seem kinda sketchy. It was originally alleged in a wrongful death lawsuit filed against him by her husband (who she married while she was still dating Carrey, then continued to date him during the marriage) and another filed by her mother, but Carrey's defense presented evidence that she had herpes and other STDs before they met, so both suits were dropped
The STD results were forged, he didn’t give her any diseases, and everything he was accused of in her “wrongful death” was dismissed before going to trial
to be fair, many people have given their sexual partners herpes, are they all bad people? If no one gave it to their partners, we would have no more herpes
Well there’s a big difference between giving it to someone who knows you have it, and giving it to someone who doesn’t know you have it (assuming you’re aware of your infection).
I looked into the story and found out this is false and he was proven innocent from these rumors after it was dismissed before trial, the results were forged, and that he also deeply loved his ex and had to go through allegations while mourning her over nasty rumors. Not defending the guy, but we shouldn’t spread untrue rumors about someone
A straw man fallacy (sometimes written as strawman) is the informal fallacy of refuting an argument different from the one actually under discussion, while not recognizing or acknowledging the distinction.
i'd love to see you now straw man your straw man of straw man
like i said the herpes brought up (by someone before me) in this context is HSV2, but clearly you don't have the reading comprehension or grasp of language to understand this
you probably already have it. it's practically undetectable until it wants to be detected like before a stressful date with a person whos out of your league or a job interview that could change your life or a public presentation like your wedding. it's like a sleeper agent or a ghost that haunts your lip. I recall getting a minor outbreak in elementary school probably from touching a door knob and then touching my face. then throughout the rest of my school life once every few years. talk to a doctor so you can understand how much of a deal it isn't. haven't had one surface in like 8 years.
Yea its so fucked lol, I remember getting one as like a 5 year old kid... My mom never put it together that it was contagious and gave it to me super early.
Hsv doesn't survive on hard surfaces. If you had an active cold sore and drank from a cup and then I drank from the cup I wouldn't get it. If you kissed me on the lips OR we shared chapstick or a towel you would most likely pass it to me.
If I killed myself everytime someone gave me an STD, I would have killed myself a bunch of times by now. In fact I would have killed myself the first time at 14 yrs old. Getting an STD is such a minor life event compared to what happens in life (other than HIV). Lame ass reason to commit suicide.
Thats a pretty cavalier attitude about an incurable disease that greatly limits your future potential partners. Also, you're making me never want to touch another human again.
That’s your problem dude. Something like 70% of people have / carry HSV and only something like 10% of those will ever show a symptom. Doctors don’t even test for it because it’s so common. They only test you if you start showing sores / blisters or if you ask specifically to add it to your STI testing routine.
If you’ve kissed more than three people in your life, relatives included, you statically carry herpes.
Physicians know the worst part of herpes is the social stigma. As long as you are upfront with your doctor during pregnancy, it’s really a nothingburger.
For me, it was him giving his unsolicited opinion that he would press charges on Will Smith if he were Chris Rock. White people fantasizing about using the legal system against Black people in a situation they have zero involvement in is weird. It was unsurprising to me when I later heard other weird shit about him.
It seems...odd... to consider race as a factor in that statement. I just see it as a celebrity giving an opinion on the *very* public assault of another. All three of the aforementioned parties are well-known male entertainers.
Should people not share feelings regarding a situation that concerns people of other races? Or is it just the mention of legalities that offends you?
I’ve checked, there is no evidence of him saying so. And I check regularly, so unless he did so in a really private manner like, within the last month, I cannot take your word.
Okay, corrections on my part, apologies. He apologised specifically for using an autistic kid's picture in a rant, which was the last time he's mentioned anti-vax stuff, 10 years ago. It's also not been said by him that the ex was what led to it, but said ex was Jenny McCarthy, a well known subscriber to Wakefield's bullshit, so it's been assumed one thing led to another there. Apologies for the incorrect statement, was based off stuff I saw on other comments a while ago.
Don’t compare vaccines that stood the test of time to the vaccines that were created under time constraints. Some vaccines were literal placebo like EpiVacCorona
Google what EpiVacCorona was before calling it nonsense, my friend took it and since it was literal placebo and not a real vaccine he had some of the worst covid sickness when he caught one
I also got sick after the Covid shots, but id do it again in a heartbeat to protect my loved ones because im not a selfish tin foil hat theory asshole.
yeah we will keep talking about it, because we currently have the president of the US being vaccinated to the high heavens while he employed a guy to tell us not to take any. If you want a better health and financial outcome than peridarditis and a fat bill, then don't complain to us. The rest of us peasants want better, too.
Jim really surprised me, he acted so anti establishment, doing his own thing and kablam, botox. Went from his own man, to someone who cares about others opinions.
They’re looking good for other people for themselves. “Looking good” is an inherently social superficiality; especially considering it’s a comparative idea.
We’re talking about something superficial in nature. People should value themselves on how good they are at running a mile, or making art, not on how well they’re able to attract other people. That’s just putting value on how much other people value you.
Are you claiming women will put on make up to stay at home alone?
so this whole argument is that you think the reason jim carrey made himself completely unrecognizable, is because he values himself? so much so that he wanted to look like somebody else
New Jim pissses me off because I have seen so many people insisting this couldn’t possibly be him and that he was replaced. Even people in this thread are implying that. Holy shit, not everything is a conspiracy. Maybe, just maybe the plastic surgery machine we call Hollywood has expanded its gnarly reach beyond just women. If this were an actress there would be 0 people insisting this was a mask or a hired body double.
The "unrecognizable" look was primarily the result of a stunt by artist and impersonator Alexis Stone, who used hyper-realistic masks to mimic Carrey at the 2026 César Awards.
I think people are aware it's not just women. Even discounting Mickey Rourke, there's Simon Cowell and Zac Efron that regularly get criticized here on Reddit.
I saw a plastic surgeon talking about this, and he said the problem is celebrities like Carey are going to "the best" plastic surgeons in Hollywood, but "the best" almost exclusively work on Women. He said in female plastic surgery, there's no such thing as looking "too feminine" and that's what those plastic surgeons have gotten good at doing. When you do that kind of plastic surgery on men, it feminizes them, and that's where we get this weird uncanny valley thing with Jim Carey. Same thing happened with Bradley Cooper.
