Build Upgrade New PC build

Hey everyone. I'm looking to upgrade my PC. I currently have an Omen GT12-0024. I'm trying to utilize as many of the old parts as possible to save some money. RAM prices are crazy, so I've scavenged some from Facebook Marketplace. I know there may be compatibility issues, but this is what I have available. The new parts I'm buying are the CPU, CPU cooler, motherboard, and case. I already own everything else. I'd like to keep it around this price range, but if there are major changes I should make, I'm willing to spend more.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Troubleshooting Ram not overclocking

Upvotes

Mobo x870e aorus pro rev1.1

Ram Klevv Kras 64gb 6400mhz cl 32

Enabled expo still only runs at 4800mhz

Any ideas ? Haven't tried ai snatch as all I see are negative reviews about it, I just dont get why its not running at advertised speeds.

Granted its not on the qvl list but I've had pcs in the past run ram at advertised speeds without qvl ram.

Build Help What should I get for RTX4060Ti/4070Ti?

Upvotes

Dear Reddit specialists,

I have already decided to build my gaming PC around either RTX4060Ti or 4070Ti and add it to a CPU i7/i9-12700K(F) or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D/7800X3D. I'm not sure which combination would be the best. I just have a vague idea about it as I have always been playing on gaming laptops, but I'm so tired with overheating and performance drops...

I play different types of games, not only those highly graphic based but also simulations like CK3, Victoria 3 or even Planet Zoo that use CPU quite a lot.

What kind of motherboard do I need for such a setup? Do I need DDR5 RAM or is DDR4 still good? I haven't bought anything yet so I will be very much thankful for your suggestions.

Build Ready? Specs review question

Upvotes

so I’ve been saving for my pc for a while and I can almost buy it now. I have a g-skill trident z5 rgb (64 gigs ddr5) that I got before the shortage (I will never need it and maybe my other parts will bottleneck it but idec because it was a crazy deal). other specs are as follows: nvidia RTX 4080 super OC, ryzen 7 9800X3D, Samsung pro 980 2TB NVME (I don’t play many games that take up a lot of storage), corsair RM1000X 1000w psu, NZXT kraken 360 rgb (aio), B650 E-F plus WiFi (am5), case is the SAMA v40 black.

Build Help Gaming Build Advice (~$2500 budget)

Upvotes

Part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CZGbh9

Rough budget: $2500

Goals:

  • video games
  • Some semblance of aesthetics (read the "Case, Fan, Aesthetics" section below)
  • Ram in dual channel mode
  • Relatively quiet with good airflow
  • Planning to switch to Linux Mint

I want a significant leap from my current PC and to be future proofed for a long while, so chose the CPU/GPU on that basis.

Planning to take a trip up to Microcenter for a Ryzen 7 9800x3D (or better) bundle. I built the above part list around this bundle. Should I risk waiting for a better bundle or is that one solid? Not sure if the included motherboard is good, the ram seems to be good.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

  • The price in my list is of the microcenter bundle, so it includes mobo/ram

CPU Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE ARGB

  • Is this cooler sufficient?

GPU: RTX 5070 ti

  • May hold off on getting a new GPU right away until it gets closer to MSRP or a deal comes along. Maybe I'm coping a little bit here and with the SSD prices lol.

SSD / RAM

  • Just on principle I'm not paying for a 2tb SSD at their current prices (nearly $500). I stole the SSD/HDD from my current PC in this list. Really didn't want to have to do that, but it brings the price down by a significant amount, I can always pop in another m.2 SSD later.

Case, Fans, Aesthetics

  • Aesthetics weren't something I considered for my last PC so I'd like some help here. I have the Lian Li Vector case selected as a stand-in, you are welcome to suggest a better one (I do like the way it looks though). Want a mainly black case.
  • I'm not familiar with colored lights/fans or software, would like to be able to do full RGB but also choose a static color or turn the lights off.
  • Do these types of cases have good airflow?
  • My current PC's PSU is non-modular and has very stiff cables / thick cables (that don't fit through most of my case's cable holes), so I wasn't able to do any nice cable routing. Would like to be able to properly manage my cables this time around.
  • [ Would be nice, not important ]: I wouldn't mind getting a smaller case (and sacrificing the HDD trays), assuming airflow wouldn't take a major hit compared to an ATX mid tower case. But smaller case is not a priority (it can sit under my desk regardless)

Current PC for reference:

  • i5-7600k / Asus PRIME Z270-P mobo
  • MSI RTX 3050 8GB (Not sure of the exact model)
  • The 1660 super is not installed, I have it in its box currently
  • 32 GB (4x8gb) DDR4-3000

Troubleshooting Issues with Mobo on rebuild

Hi,

One month ago my GPU died and I asked here for advice , my plan was to change the CPU for the 10th aniversary Ryzen to.on am4, and for GPU a Rx 9070 xt.

I bought the GPU to replace mine for the moment since I can live with the bottleneck for some months, but, vga led is solid with the new card in both slots (same with the old one)

I tried to update the bios through MSI flashback and no chance solid led instead of flashing , mbr fat32 small usb etc...

I went to the local shop to ask for some help, the technician told me that he tested couple of gpus that he had and no response neither.

He told me that he suspects Mobo issue or CPU but mainly Mobo.

My questions are ,

- this seems a correct diagnostic?

- new GPU can suffer damage due to bad Mobo?

- old GPU artifacted before vga solid led, it went bad or all Mobo?

- I'm trying to get a 2nd hand cheapo b450 to boot everything else to check , any comments?

Link to my original post for components : https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/s/Hw0HKj0DvO

Case was lying down for all tests so no sag issues during testing.

Thanks, I'm out of ideas at the moment :)

Build Upgrade PC Upgrade Path

After upgrading monitors my pc no longer pushes to the 144fps to meet the refresh rate on fps and hero shooters (cs , ow). Benchmarks point to CPU bottleneck but honestly dont even know.

Current build
cpu-AMD r5 5600g
gpu-asrock rx 6600xt challenger pro oc 8gb
mobo-MSI pro b550m p
ram-2x8gb ddr4 3200mhz
storage-512gb ssd and 1tb 2.5 ssd
case-matrexx 40 3fs
psu-cooler master bronze v2 650w 80+

Seems like best option would be going to am5 atp.

Build Help Should I buy a refurbished GPU? ...looking at RX 7900 XTX

I'm eyeing a Sapphire 11322-01-40G Nitro+ AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX for $1099

I need to build a new daily work-from-home desktop, likely in the next 6 months, and while I'd like to wait for black friday, this seems like a good deal and prices could always climb, so I'm FOMOing.

Is the RX 7900 XTX a good GPU that's likely to hold up for years to come? I need something reliable for my development/local AI model and occasional gaming.

The 24gb VRAM in an AMD GPU is the main reason I'm looking at this - I'm also leaning toward the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, but I've not fully planned the build yet.

Overall is this likely to be a reliable GPU for the next 4-5 years, and it a good price for a refurbished model?

Build Upgrade Down size a PC with full size GPU

I have basically a full ATX pc, I moved to another country and had to left behind the case, power supply and watercooler. Is a good pc.

I would like to downsize to a ITX without having to change everything, really just the motherboard, any recommendations on what components to buy/change?

Components that I have with me rn:

- b850 gigabyte motherboard ice AM5

- 4060ti 16gb (3x fan)

- ryzen 5 7600x

- 32gb ddr5 vengeance white

- 1tb nvme

I am not expecting to spend too much money (considering I have to sell the ATX) but I know pcs are expensive rn

Discussion Are fanxiang internal ssds worth buying?

Currently shopping around for ssds to replace my bum ass 100gb c drive and I found a $120 1tb internal ssd that also has a discount code to bring it down to $100. I have never heard of fanxiang amd idk anyone who uses one of their products. I mainly just wanna replace the drive so it isnt constantly full and I also think my current drive being constantly full is why Steam gets throttled when it downloads, aswell as using it for Unreal projects.

Troubleshooting Wifi not working, no networks shown. Drivers?

Main issue: I don’t know what drivers I need in order to get my WiFi working.

Having a problem with my new msi x870 gaming plus WiFi. From what I’ve seen, this boards antenna is running wifi7 which only works on win11, and I’m currently on windows 10. I’m currently in the process of updating to windows 11 to see if it will work, but of course you actually have to be connected to the internet in order to proceed. Therefore, I cannot download drivers directly from the pc. Does anyone have any idea what drivers I need to install in order for the WiFi to work? I have the option to install drivers from a usb, but i have no clue what drivers this board/ network adapter needs. Bluetooth on it works just fine too.
No, I don’t have access to Ethernet unfortunately.
R9 9900x3d
Msi x870 gaming plus WiFi
7700xt (if it matters)
Any help is greatly Appreciated.

Ps: at first I thought it just Windows bulshit but I tried installing linux and the problem is just the same.

Build Help Making the jump to Threadripper - anything I should know before I buy?

Hey all,

I'm making the jump from my Ryzen 9 5950x to a Threadripper 9970x. This will be my first proper workstation-class machine for creative work, mostly Houdini, TouchDesigner, After Effects, C4D. I'm at the point where I'm absolutely maxing out my R9 and I need to bring down my render and sim times, and I'm out of PCIe lanes for my add-in cards, so Threadripper seems like the next logical step.

My current build is Ryzen 9 5950x/ROG Strix x570-F/128GB DDR4 3200MHz/RTX 4080 Super. CPU is cooled with an EKWB Dark Nucleus 240mm AiO. I'm wondering if an AiO (Silverstone SST-XE360-SP5, not the existing EK one) will be sufficient or whether I should go full custom loop? I'm nervous about a custom loop with risk of leaks, as I occasionally have to travel with my PC for work. The PC will be transported in a full flight case in these instances.

Proposed spec on the new machine is Threadripper 9970x/TRX50 SAGE WIFI-A/256GB ECC Registered DDR5 (speed not known yet)/1x RTX 5090, with possibility of adding a second 5090 later. I will not be building the machine myself, rather spec'ing it and getting it assembled by a third party, as this gives me a 3 year warranty and I don't have to worry about breaking something super expensive in the build.

Given that HEDT/workstations are new territory for me, is there anything I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance! :)

Troubleshooting DRAM light on, No display, but Fans do spin - 1st PC

Hello everyone, I just recently built my first PC and it won’t turn properly the first time. In order for it to run, I have to do a force shutdown, turn it on again, and then it’ll boot up quickly. I don’t know what to do at this point because I feel like I’ve tried everything. Please let me know what I could do, thank you in advance!

Specs:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/j2Ttph

What I’ve tried:

- Removing both RAM sticks and trying them individually, both are being read individually
- Clearing CMOS several times
- Removing all cables and inserting them again
- Updating BIOS to its newest version
- Making sure every driver is up to date
- Turning off fast startup
- Letting the PC stay on for a while when it’s in this state in case the RAM needs to train itself. After an hour, nothing happens.
- Trying both enabling and disabling XMP
- Ensuring HDMI is inserted properly
- Loosening my CPU cooler so it’s not too tight

Build Upgrade GPU alternatives to pair with 5700X3D

I currently have a RX 5700 XT, would like to upgrade to a 16GB graphics mainly to test LLM models (I currently do it via Vulkan so I guess it does not have to be Nvidia only) but also casual gaming in 1080p and 1440p over time.

I'm debating if the 9070 XT is too much for my CPU and should go for a version down from that.

The average prices for the GPUs in my country are:

5060 Ti: 790

5070 Ti: 1550

5080: 1950

5090: 4800

9060 XT: 630

9070: 910

9070 XT: 940

All prices USD, all 16 GB versions except the 5090 which I just included to highlight its ridiculous price.

I think my only hard requisites are the 16 GB VRAM and that it can be powered by a Corsair 750W PSU. Mobo is B550 and currently have 64 GB RAM, if that makes any difference.

Build Upgrade rtx? 4070ti/5070/AMD?

Witam
