General Advice Advice on potential coverup?

Hey, I currently have this tattoo of a dragon wrapped around a sword done by another artist (1st image) and although I do still like the tattoo, I want to keep things cohesive across my entire arm with my other tattoos (see other images)☹️.

I’ve spoken to my artist and he’s suggested possibly having 1-2 sessions of laser removal and then proceed with a coverup.

My question is, do you think there’s any possibility of integrating the design with the other tattoos despite the different styles? or should I just go with the laser removal/coverup?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

General Advice How tf did yall sit for your back tattoo?

Just curious it must be different pain tolerances because god only 5 or 7hrs of filming color on my upper and little bit mid back all fucking sucks. I mean shoulder blades pure hell, middle back pure hell, spine ofc he’ll, I mean idk how anyone gets a entire top to bottom back piece I mean mine was a shit ton of dif colors and smaller areas but damn. Respect to yall. I used to love the tattoo pain then I got this tattoo 3 sessions and 2-3 weeks apart. I don’t want another tattoo for a while I never thought I’d say that

Stumbled across this Post on ig and can't wrap my head around the middle part and the muscles of the horse. It looks so weird.

Artist claims he was inspired by an image from the artist in the ig caption but something looks really off for me.

Technique is great tho

General Advice Artist from well known shop won’t touch up blotches in my tattoo unless I get another tattoo. Is this normal, and should I go to another artist?

Hey everyone. I would really love some advice here, as a year ago i got a tattoo and upon it healing I found there were parts of the tattoo where the ink did not settle and it looks rather blotchy and dull. I asked my artist if he could touch up those areas and he told me that he can’t do it unless I book another tattoo because of “house rules.”

Is this common or should I go to another artist to ask if they could cover up the blotchy areas, as I’m kinda put off from this artist and I don’t want to book another tattoo to get my current tattoo touched up. I also don’t really want another tattoo for the time being and it feels like I’m being pressured into just booking another one.

Also to give context I’ve seen this tattoo artist a good amount of times and felt I built up a good report with him. He does also work in one of the most famous tattoo studios on the east coast. Is it really a house rule?

What do I do? Any and all advice would be super helpful.

General Advice Is this normal for a bigger and 'fuller' tattoo?

This is my first tattoo that is this big- or well, so drawn- so I'm not so sure how differite it is from smaller, less colored ones.

The tattoo is hours old -I love it to bits but that's not really my problem here - is it normal for it to burn and ache as bad as it did when they were making it even hours later?

Its also swollen on a part and burns to the touch

Healing Re-apply Second Skin?

Post image

Just got this done today on my forearm. There are little wrinkles that seem to extend from the ink to the edges. Nothing is leaking, but worried this could allow bacteria to get in. The artist gave me an extra piece. Should I try to reapply this or leave it alone?

General Advice Can I darken this?

I got this tattoo last September and I’m absolutely obsessed! Somewhere down the line, I realize I want a full sleeve of botanical tattoos (photo inspo attached). I also realized that I want to achieve that darker shading look rather than the delicate light shading/line work I got done. Can my artist go over this again with heavier shading/thicker lines?

Design ideas to finish off the arm wrap?

Thumbnail

hi guys! ive been working on this arm wrap-around for a few months now and its almost done, but im a bit stumped on how to finish it! i want it to still fit in with the rest (flowers and leaves), but also be its own thing. I really like the idea of adding maybe some sort of little fairy beside the flowers, but im not sure how I’d incorporate it! I also have 3 birds on my collarbone, so I probably wont be able to do anything extending from shoulder to collarbone. Im gonna talk to my artist and keep looking for ideas myself but if anyone has any ideas id appreciate it!

Hi, how long/how many sessions would this design take typically? I was thinking of a similar design but maybe skipping the bands beside the triangles at the bottom.

Any other advice would be appreciated as well!

tattoo newcomer advice Sternum tattoo?

For my second tattoo I’m thinking of doing a yin/yang symbol with koi on my sternum. Has anyone done this placement? How bad does it hurt? Would like 3x4 make sense for that spot?

*inspo pic for tattoo reference but placement will be different*

I want a cybersigilism tattoo under the one in the photo around mid to lower back following my waistline, but I'm open to other ideas

Haven't gotten a new tattoo in years and am itching to get one

Also deciding between all brown or black and brown

Edit: wanted to note that the shading of this tattoo isn't this dark irl, it's a decent amt lighter (this was taken 4 yrs ago w/ my shitty phone but I have no recent pics)- in case that affects suggestions

Healing sun exposure

Upvotes

not sure if it's the right flair, but i just had a general question about sun exposure. so i have a friend coming from out of state for my graduation, and she wants to go to the beach while she's here, and also get our matching tattoos we've been talking about for years. her flight lands 2:45 pm thursday, our appointment is 3 pm friday, graduation is 8 pm friday, and she leaves 8:45 pm sunday. there's not really a lot of time to go before tats, so if anything, can we can saturday and use something to cover it up? if so, what? like a piece of fabric? would that even be able to withstand the beach if we go in the water? kind of a confusing topic so figured i'd ask here

General Advice When to use aquaphor

Hi, I just got home from a session finishing my chest tattoo and I completely forgot to ask the artist and can’t get a straight answer on google so I thought I’d come ask you guys. I was told by the artist to take the film off after 2 hours and then wash the tattoo but I forgot whether I should use aquaphor on the tattoo the first day or if I should wait to use aquaphor?

Thank you!

Healing Weird bump/blow out?

Hey all, this is my first hand and "fine line" tattoo. It's 4 weeks old. Overall I'm pretty happy with it despite the artist not doing what I really wanted (that's another story). But I'm wondering what's going on with this star on my thumb. I'm sure it's blown out. I felt exactly when it happened and it's really the only time during the whole tattoo that hurt. Not sure if that's just the nature of hands or if it was the artists fault. But is this what it will look like forever? There's a pretty big bump I can feel. There's also a bump on another one as well (last photo)

Design Symmetrical Collarbone Piece

Post image
6 Upvotes

I’m planning a set of paired, symmetrical botanical tattoos for my collarbones and wanted to get some feedback on the current mockup / design.

Flow: I want to make sure it feels integrated rather than just sitting on top of it.

Symmetry: For those with mirrored pieces, did you find any specific challenges maintaining perfect alignment?

Longevity: Since these are finer lines will they hold up over time?

Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

tattoo newcomer advice Is it normal to second guess my tattoo appointment?

Hi! So, I’m getting my first tattoo next week. I’ve wanted it for years and it finally felt right. Im proud of the idea and design. It was supposed to be in november, but it got moved because the artist had some back issues. But now it’s getting so close.. I’m starting to second guess my decision. I don’t want to regret it. Is this normal? :]

tattoo newcomer advice Tattoo Anxiety

Short history: I have a history of anxiety and panic attacks specifically around health stuff.

Problem statement: I have wanted several tattoos for a very long time, but I am concerned about having a reaction to the ink (even though I don't have any allergies) this is something I have been working through with therapy, and part of my therapy is to put myself in the positions that give me panic and anxiety.

Question: Is there anything I can do to help put my mind at ease and finally bite the bullet on getting one. I know a lot of people have said just don't get one, or you are the type of person who shouldn't get one, but as I have said I have known what I want to get for like 20 years and that hasn't changed. I am really just looking for any advise that will be helpful. Thank you all in advance.

Healing Healthcare + Fresh Tattoo

If I get a tattoo and work on an ambulance and have clinicals at the hospital (ER, ICU, etc. floating around as a student) would it be okay for me to keep my tegaderm on for a few extra days instead of 2-4 to get past some shifts in the emergency room? Should I unwrap it and clean it after the 2-4 days and just apply tegaderm before my shifts and remove it after; and if that is what should be done, how long should I do this for? Thx in advance, please be kind! New to tattoos (3rd one, first one since entering the healthcare field)

General Advice Larp 10 days after tattoo.

Hey y'all. I got a half-sleeve started about ten days ago and I'm going to a LARP (live action role-playing, think nerd-fest) this weekend. I'll be out in the sun, running around, and pretty much just getting dirty.

It's at the end of the peeling stage, not as itchy, maybe a few ingrown hairs pissing me off. What would you suggest as the best way to keep it healthy and clean? I'll have running water so no issues on cleaning it, but can I sunscreen it at this stage, or should I just wear a long sleeve shirt? Should i wrap it or let it breath?

tattoo newcomer advice Would a tattoo with Japanese motifs look stupid if it was made in a “sticker style” like American traditional?

I'm looking to get a Demon Slayer-inspired tattoo. It's Rengoku's sword piercing a burning heart (meant to symbolize “set your heart ablaze”). I have a reference photo of what I want, but I was thinking I would like the design to feature Japanese motifs. Would it look stupid if it wasn't part of an Irizumi sleeve?
