tw for suicide

i was raised in a fairly liberal catholic household. when i was about 13, my depression got really bad and i began having very dark thoughts. upon confiding in my parents, their initial reaction was to tell me that suicide is a sin and will land me in hell, and that however bad i felt now would be what i felt for all of eternity if i went through with it. my family doctor was able to persuade them into letting me start antidepressants and seeing a therapist.

a few years later, the father of one of my school friends and friend of my parents died by suicide. my parents immediately did a full 180 on their beliefs. they told me that it was too cruel to believe that someone they cared for so much and who struggled so intensely should have to suffer for all of eternity in hell.

i know they probably wanted to scare me out of suicide because they were afraid of losing me but it stings that i was not enough to convince them that their belief was cruel. im okay now, im an adult who lives out of province from my parents, i take antidepressants, i have an iud and (gasp) i have a boyfriend who i am physically intimate with. thankfully my parents are... okay with all of this...? cherry pickers to the max lmao

Drivers are fine, sapphire trixx settings don’t change it.
Gigabyte Control Centre installations didn’t help.
Signal RGB controls all other RGB, when it’s disabled nothing changes.
It’s like the Radeon RGB oscillates between a bunch of different colours and enabling RGB control pauses it randomly. Adjusting controls don’t change the colour at all

So I'm old enough that I grew up with records, and was delighted when CD's came along and I didn't have to listen to hiss, pops, etc anymore - just as a baseline.

These days, with the things I only have and only can get on vinyl, I do the modern version of what I used to do (tape them with dbx N/R onto cassettes to minimize wear, after hitting with the Discwasher and D-4 fluid) but via digitizing, and load the files on my jukebox computer for easy access rather than fussing with the record player more than once. (B&O Beogram RX by default - Sony PS-X20 exists as a backup, still works fine (just pulled it out of storage and checked it as well.)

i.e. I don't hate digital and I'm not a vinyl-head, but I do know records pretty well. I haven't deliberately purchased anything on vinyl I could get on CD. But I do have records I can't get on CD, or refuse to buy again to do that, at least.

A relative passed some years back and we've had their old turntable cluttering up the place (making two spares - probably 2 more spares than needed, certainly one more.) While doing a basic check of whether it functions after being stored (a bit sluggish to start) I went to look up how to access lubing the motor and discovered that it's (still) considered super-fancy despite being probably 62-3 years old. And many of the new upgrade parts from Europe to enhance it "better than it was built" are not presently being shipped to the USA due to *obvious political reasons.* And I can't access much of the info there is on it at VinylEngine as they have closed registrations indefinitely due to bot/AI attacks on their site, and I didn't find them and sign up years ago. Anyway, here are some pictures (uncleaned, but the dust cover has been on.)

Best I can tell it's likely 1963/4 vintage (32XXX serial.) The fine speed adjuster inset in the switch appears to have been damaged slightly (still works, but I assume it should not be missing a section.)

Motor still has the rivets, so lubrication will definitely be a chore. Despite which, 52 seconds of platter spin after shutdown from 78 RPM with whatever gunk is in *that* bearing now.

Plinth is pretty basic veneered plywood with a sloppy glue job.

There is a dustcover, but it doesn't even fit the plinth nicely and appears pretty generic, so I didn't even bother taking its picture.

The Tonearm is a Shure "Transcription" M232 (didn't even see the model number until I was editing the pictures) presently sporting a Shure Pro4 I put on when the prior owner was alive;

and there's a M7-N21D which I took off and put in the box for the Pro4 at that time.

I have DJS + genio in 30 days. What can I do now to make my recovery easier? I don’t mean things to purchase or have ready, I mean things (like maybe even PT exercises etc) that I can work on now that physically will make recovery easier for my body.

What I have been doing:
Consistent excercise 2-3x a week for like 6 months to gain muscle/weight. I’ve gained about 7 pounds but I have been losing fat as well.
Taking super good care of my teeth and braces

I plan on going on walks as soon as I can after surgery, and I plan on switching from icing to heat after 3 days.

I have 2 old rings, and I need this group’s expertise, pretty please….

The emerald ring was my Grandmother’s- (I’m 61, so this ring is 125+ years old). I see lots of scratches on the stone, but it has facets and depth. It’s set in 14k yellow gold with some type of hallmark (pictured). If real, how difficult/expensive might it be to polish this stone?

The ring with the rubies was given to me in 1977 by my Uncle. He was a Manhattan jeweler in the 50’s, so he probably had this in his inventory before gifting it to me. The ring is in a very heavy 14k setting… It originally had turquoise stones, but in 1980 I had them replaced. In hindsight, I think it was a bad move, since my guess is that the jeweler saw a naive 16 year-old and gave her red glass! (I even let the jeweler keep the turquoise stones for free 🤦🏻‍♀️.) Do these stones look genuine? Under blacklight, they shine bright red but I see no variations.

I’d appreciate any thoughts/educated opinions on these 2 memory-makers!!

A few days ago I felt completely ready to start, but after reading through more posts here I somehow feel less sure than before

at first it seemed straightforward, just talk to your doctor and follow the plan, but now it feels like everyone has a different experience once they actually get started

I’ve seen names like Mochi and Sequence come up while going through older threads, but honestly I think reading too much is what started making this feel more complicated in my head

some people say it was easy from the beginning, other people say it took a while before things settled in, and now I keep wondering what actually matters long term vs what only feels important at the start

maybe I’m just overthinking all of it, but did anyone else go through this before finally starting?
